In my experience the issue with breaking/ bending the screw in the presta valve core occurs more when riders use a smaller hand pump than when they use a floor pump. It is true that the repeated strokes that are required when using a small hand pump constantly flexes the valve on every stroke. It’s something you have to remember and be careful. Many avid riders carry Co2 cartridges or have tubeless set up with sealant. A solution for tubes with presta would be to have removable valve cores. They do exist but can be hard to find. I have been dealing with presta valve issues since 1985 when I got my first real road race bike that ran 700/23 tires on narrow rims.
Great explanation, and I'm happy to see more frequent and more general-bike-info videos from you guys. Those valve adaptors are rarely needed anymore as most pumps sold nowadays can handle both Presta and Schrader valves, sometimes with a dual-head chuck and sometimes with a universal head.
But, if you have a Presta valve, you should at least have one on the bike (in your bag) just in case you're somewhere that only has the Schrader valve pump attachment.
Why? I switched to Presta valves because Schrader valves don't generally have a retaining ring like Presta. Consequently it was almost impossible to get my pump to push onto the stem when the tyre was flat because the stem just pushed into the empty space.
Yes Peter, its impossible to get any iar into the tyre, unless you bend the bend and then are useless. I have watched countless videos of how to change a tyre, and am now on my third inner tube, cos these stupid valves bend.
Presta valves frequently break. I'm careful but somehow that stupid screw thing breaks. Schrader valves never break. I have never had a tube with a Presta valve get worn out because the valve always broke first. Manned Spaced Flight is possible. Why can't we have the 6mm or less diameter Schrader Valve!? Just think... If you had a skinny schrader you could also have an el-cheapo plastic thingy that could screw on the end, after it's on the rim, bringing the end to 8mm so you could use standard schrader pumps. The designer of the presta valve was obviously in league with Lucifer.
Ive always wondered why presta even exists now im wonder why big beefy MTB tires also use presta because i kind of hate it and a lot of them arent even serviceable so you cant remove the core to add sealant
