My first visit to an exhibition for 2023 is the Preston model railway exhibition, a great show with a great variety of layouts and traders on show.

Im planning to build a garden layout....Ok I hear you say. But one thing I need to know is....What is the TOTAL width of a OO gauge, double track inc sides an centre as in...up line outer ballast edge to down line outer ballast edge? I want to base the line on uk mainline....so want it look realistic..It will be at ground level so was thinking wide part of house brick end to end or would that be to narrow or going across the width be to wide. .Thanks for any help.

Hi Allan, depending on how big radius curves you go for, 2nd and 3rd radius curves youll need about 4ft wide board and for 4th radius abit wider, if you want a mainline theme then depending on howmuch space you have you could make the curves wider and to suit your space and also the wider they are the more realistic it will look, i hope this is helpful. Nice to see some steamies, but for me there were far too many stinky diesels, and not enough preserved steamies. Those guys ought to try and even things up a bit, so we get an equal mix of the two alongside each other. Steam engines were still running in the 1960s, the diesels not completely taking over till 1968. Nice in any case, I'm not criticising, just voicing my opinion.🙃

Hi Kelly, no problem we all have are preferances, i still prefer steam cant beat the smell and the experience of seeing a loco in steam, i do like some diesels though especially older ones and hsts, if you like steam have a look at my latest video at the Keighley worth valley railway, had the pleasure of seeing 2 jubilees, 3 black 5s and a few other steam locos in the one day, thanks again for watching. HAS BRITAIN LOST THE MODELLING PLOT ??? Eli Wood N Gauge ! Catenary masts but no Catenary ? I had fully functioning Catenary (& energised), 40 years ago on my N scale German & Japanese exhibition layouts (Featured in a number of Continental Modeller issues). With scratchbuilt pointwork. Fully functioning scratchbuilt colour light signalling, operating as in real life through track circuits, and ALL fully interlocked !!! SO WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO BRITISH MODELLING, AS IT SEEMS TO BE GOING RAPIDLY BACKWARDS in ALL scales ??????
