I think that the simplest reason is this - solo kill is worth 300g for him. Lee Sin took the kill, so they both got some. Lee got 300g, and Irelking got 150g for assist. More gold for the team overall.
@InfidelFW but Lee sin did use w on irelking which means that he already got an assist with the shield. Also isn't it better for the hyper carry to get the gold? I mean an otp on his main is deathly with a lead
