Such a classy gentleman! He doesn't try to take advantage of her at all, he calls her Miss Vivian instead of just Vivian and he helps her as much as he can. This is how a true mannered person acts.
The manager is a textbook example of how one should act: dignified, firm and professional but compassionate. A class act. The saleswoman is also a great example of what sales is really about: taking the time to listen, finding out what the persons needs are and being helpful - it's a very under-appreciated job.
@@andrewma3491 Yes. I believe so. To what degree, I don't know. But it won't exist at all unless each of us sets the example first. (I know this sounds so cheesy, but I honestly believe it's true. :))
Without Hector Elizondo this movie would never have made it. Such a Gentleman, such a great actor. He lifts the other actors to new highs. Genius, absolute genius.
I just adore Mr. Elizondo in everything, and especially this role. He deservedly earned a Golden Globe nomination for this performance. And he turned 84 today 🙂
Thank you Frank, for telling us about Hector's,Birthday. I didn't know he was that much Older than Myself? IT just proves this fine Gentleman, has been in the Acting Industry, for over Five, Decades. As before exchanging Comments? I had totally Spaced out about Him being on TV, clear Back in the Late 70's on the All in The Family Series, With Archie Bunker, who was played by Carole O'Connor. Wow wasn't that a Great, in Life Week Night, program of how too Coop with Life & Especially People? Well I guess I've babbled enough this fine Morning 🌅? So I will just say So Long, Have A Great Father's Day too all the Father's, out there, & keep having those Wonderful brief exchange's of Occasions with Your Children, or Family members. LOL from Wyoming, Robert, I Love you all. May the Good LORD Bless You All.🇨🇦🇺🇸🇨🇦🇺🇸🇨🇦🇺🇸👍👍🙏🙏🙏
My grandfather was a gentleman like that. He treated everyone with dignity. He died in 1959 a month before I turned 11. He died one week after my best friend's mother. They lived next door. I can still see his kind face, hear his soft voice; he set the bar pretty damn high and I could never quite reach it. To this day, people remember him as "a sweet old gentleman."
he`s more than a gentleman, he knows that she´s a hooker and he treats her like a lady even in such an embarrassing situation, not every gentleman could deal with this situation in this way
Some of this is a natural response from a kind and professional heart. But in general, manners and such professionalism is taught and the manners begin early in life. A loving parent will make sure their children learn manners. It's a great foundation to build on.
That is part of his “Job Description” Knowing how to take care of “delicate situations.” When you work with a population that has this sort of $$$ you see more of these things than you could imagine😉You just learn how to manage guests, guests of guests, & staff to provide discreet service in ALL SITUATIONS 🧐
I realize this story was about Vivian and Richard finding real love, and completing one another and all that, but gotta say this was the scene that most moved me
Hector was so great in this movie. He's class not only as a character in the movie but as a real person is amazing. Julia looked just out this world. Her chemistry with Richard was one of those classic Hollywood moments. Pretty Woman it's a classic. Of course there is THAT SMILE!
I was an extra in a film that featured Mr. Elizondo. The "important" actors, director, etc., ran around all puffed up and full of vodka kept especially for them in a cooler on the set. He was separate, quiet, patiently awaiting his moment to act. A separate animal, the true artist is.
Yes, I've known people like that; some rich, some simply working people and not at all wealthy. It pays to be gracious, respectful, and help put people at ease.
Contrast her with her much less talented and considerably more ugly sibling, Eric Roberts. I guess Julia got all the acting and beauty chops and poor old Eric had to make do with what was left.
I once dreamed of owning my own hotel. I swore to myself I'd hire a general manager like him: classy, graceful, compassionate, understanding and firm. Loved every minute of this role ❤
sorry, this is one of the cutest scene in all cinema-history. i used to work in hotels, and no kidding, always strived to be this guy (in terms of being respectful, and witty, and compassionate)
I like the little detail of the manager fixing Dennis' collar; even if coming off his shift, he's still has to represent a complete 'uniform' when going through the public areas of the hotel.
This scene where he arranges for a lady at a store to help her is certainly a memorable one, as is the one near the end of the movie when the manager talks to Vivian and tells her to please stop in from time to time, then arranges a limo to take her home.
I love this scene!! I love that he helped her and even taught her which fork to use. I love Julia Roberts and I have watched Pretty Woman too many times to count!! I was still excited when this clip popped up 😁
The hotel manager knew exactly how to manage a situation that could have quickly escalated into a very ugly scene. "I trust you have no other "uncles" here at the hotel" -- says it all. And yet he made the compassionate phone call to help Vivien out - with a friend who could outfit her with a dress so she could enjoy an evening like no other. There are truly good people in this world ... very low key style and exuding class.
It is not quite so wonderful. He helped out Edward Lewis' guest so that Edward would not become angry. But, the manager did help her out and handled everything with dignity and understanding.
@@eddarby469To be honest, he helped a street walking prostitue (uh, niece) of a special (wealthy, repeat customer) guest. The language was gentle, but the meaning was not.
The ensemble cast in this film was excellent, especially Hector Elizondo as the hotel manager and Ralph Bellamy (his last film role) as the owner of the failing ship building company. With an excellent supporting cast and two very photogenic, talented actors it’s one of my favourite films.
Some sales people are rude by looking at the way we dress when we walk to the shop or boutique. .however most of the times we just want to be free & easy to wear casual doesn't mean we have to be humiliated by the way we dress..I go casual especially on holidays even to a 5 star hotel/resort or shopping in Jean n thirty ..who cares ..don't be upset over n we don't need to live in other ppl's term. .enjoy life n be happy so long as we do the right ..Cheers.
Kyu ryo I don't want to be that asshole. But if u wanna play semantics, absolutely everyone can be special (linguistically) without it meaning nobody is. Everyone can theoretically be 'special' in a way different to everyone else. Meaning there's something uniquely 'special' about every person, that stands out from everyone else - everyone else who has their own unique 'special' quality. Ok I'm drunk - off to bed 😂
Love how she walks in that store that told her business was not welcome, and later walked in with all her high end dresses, she asked if they remembered her, and they didn't at first, she reminded them how she was dressed, then told them, "BIG MISTAKE! HUGE! Gotta go shopping!" That was hilariously great!
Unfortunately that only showed the store clerks were right. She is a woman of low character that wants only to flex when given the opportunity. She didn't earn that opportunity; she was given it with Edward's money.
I used this same quote when my baby girl (14) was treated horrible at a club softball tryout. If you don't choose her for the team, that's fine, but you should at least thank the kids for coming out and send an e-mail letting them know they were not chosen. Short time thereafter they played in a tournament for some horrible reason only 9 girls showed up. The coach was NOT happy. I don't blame him. The experienced catcher wasn't there so she was it! They came back from 8 runs down to beat an amazing team in the semi-finals - she caught a throw from the outfield in sudden death overtime and tackled the girl in front of the plate to save the day! They went on immediately after the over time semi-final game to play the team that "didn't choose her and treated her badly." They beat them by one run and she played amazingly! Caught a foul ball by the fence, diving catch! The coaches of the other team all made positive comments. I said the Pretty Woman line, ha ha ha! Your work hard, you demonstrate sportsmanlike behavior, you never give up and God has a way of helping you shine through in the end! She is presently studying for her mcats and wants to go into the military as a physician afterward! Go Bean!
I always thought that he completely stole the movie. Don't get me wrong, the leads were great and memorable, but Hector, wow, I thought he nailed it 100%. A courteous man, working diligently, hoping to be recognized for his bit in making other peoples live a little better, and always overlooked.
One of my favorite movies. I've watched this movie at least 25+ times, when it first came out! I had all the scenes memorized. 😆 and I have it on a DVD in my collection. 😁 Love all the movies from the 80's, 80's. They just don't make them like that anymore. Richard Gere is still handsome! Too bad they never made part 2. Maybe, showing them married with children.
This is an illustration of how everyone matters, from Billionaires to the homeless addicts on the street. Everyone has a story and listening is always an education. I found this out recently when I met an alcoholic called Paul, who despite being very drunk responded to a situation in a way that indicated he is a good guy. Money cannot buy decency.
@Sound Logic Sounded more like a principal tone to me. I could tell right away that he wasn't amused by that "What do you want it to be?". Being in the manager's office must have felt like being in the principal's office.
ELIZONDO is in my favorite scene from the movie when him and RICHARD GERE are looking at the necklace and he says "must be hard to let something so beautiful go" and GERE'S character understands the double meaning
Dan Mulcrone I remember & continue to love the scene where we were surprised by Elinor Donahue! I googled her after watching the movie AGAIN on YT! I was pleasantly surprised how 🤩gracefully she has aged & her candid stories of growing up in Hollywood herself 😎
I am a 56 year old man and I love this movie. And many other chic flicks. Which makes My Honey very happy. And her nieces as well. Notting Hill and Love Actually are good. And old ones like To Catch a Thief and Roman Holiday. Happy endings do not always happen, but they can in movies.
I thought it was so awesome that Hector Elizondo, Julia Roberts, Richard Gere & Larry Miller( The very funny boutique salesman) were all cast together again in the film Runaway Bride. Loved All of Garry Marshalls films. He is truly missed..and end of a good era of great films 🎥
I remember my grandmother scrubbing her front step everyday. I must clean and sweep up . The days truly were filled with pride, morals and family values
Call Me a Romantic Sap. I'll Admit it I Am. The Movie Pretty Woman? Stack's Up exceedingly Well with Many Other Hollywood & Broadway Classics that at present I'm Negligent too recall Presently. But it Does. For Me, when I saw this Film Back in it's infancy. IT Truely Stole My Heart 💜❤️ and left Me Saying. What a fantastic Film & Great Fairy Tale Romance. That makes Me break 💔 Out with Tears of Joy Everytime I See it even Thirty Plus Year's Later. The Cast was just So Outstanding from the Leads, Clear too the Bell Hops and Everyone Else. And My Favorite CoStar was Definitely Hector Elezondro Who Played the Hotel Manager & Concierge Who Helps Vivian Out like a Knight Would've done. Ahhh What a Great Film. THANKS for Sharing.
