Loved the crochet tube idea! I have 2 other choices for bigger dolls. You can use a glue gun stick or you can use a piece of plastic cut out of a soda or water bottle. Choose an area of the bottle that is flat and cut a rectangle which is then rolled tightly and inserted in the neck opening. The plastic tube is really strong and it adjusts perfectly to the width of the neck. If necessary, you can fill the tube with more stuffing fiber. 😊

That's so awesome, thanks for sharing your method! I love how it can be adjusted...that's a really great feature!

Thank you! I have a very large ragdoll of sentimental value, with a floppy neck that I need to fix, and I think a 20 oz Coke bottle might work great for this, just using the entire uncut bottle. (the doll is about the size of a 10 year old child)

@@app103 Wow! That must be an amazing doll! I would also fill up that bottle tube with yarn scraps to give it some support. It also might be good to thread some strong string through the upper part and tie it to the top of the dolls head so it won't move out of the neck. Hope it works nice for you! 😊

@@maiafelidae This is Mr Bones, returning from his adventures at Playa Del Fuego (East Coast Burning Man). His flannel shirt and hat once belonged to my daughter, when she was about 10 (she's pushing 40 now). Since this photo, he has also acquired some more of her old clothes, such as jeans and a pair of blue suede work boots in a ladies size 4. Yes, he looks like a funky Goth skeleton cowboy...lol. scarytaskbar.com/stuff/Mr-Bones.jpg

Thanks so much, I'm glad these are helpful! It's so frustrating to deal with wobbly necks! I've had a fair share of wobby-neck dolls too until I finally figured out how to fix that issue!

These are great methods for keeping a crochet doll's head upright. The dolls are very pretty looking as well.

I do a neck stub. If I'm doing the doll body from the bottom up, I elongate the neck by about 5 or 6 rounds and then finish off. This looks quite silly. I then do the head top down and I stop at the neck edge and finish off, then stuff. I stick the head on the neck (squish it down to the proper place) and either: string them together, which makes the head movable, or sew them together. This gives good definition between head and neck (no chin slope) and is suitable for a child.

I've been taping 2 or 3 cotton ear buds and using that, it's semi effective (better than when I used nothing at all!) and I find it tricky to stuff around the neck before attaching the head, so I will definitely be taking some of these tips. Thank you! :)

Thank u for this video! I'm making a huge stuffed animal so u gave me the idea to get a pool noodle and use that as the reinforcement instead of crocheting the cylinder (yes the neck really is that wide lol)

Is the crochet cylinder itself stuffed? I tried making one and it is quite wiggly and I am not sure how it will keep the neck from flopping.
@SweetSofties
@SweetSofties Год назад
Hi! I didn't stuff the crochet cylinder; if it's crocheted at such small/tight stitches (for example 4sc in MR or 6sc in MR) you won't have a gap in the cylinder and it should end up pretty dense/stiff. If your cylinder has a gap inside and is wiggly, I'd recommend stuffing it or stiffening it by crocheting with tighter stitches/smaller hook. Hope this helps!

How do u atudf a cylinder coz u would have already stuff the doll till neck..or if u put cylinder 1st you cant stuff the doll ..can u elaborate about stuffing
@SweetSofties
@SweetSofties 9 месяцев назад
You wouldn't stuff the cylinder because it's so small already :) You'd make the cylinder very tight (such as 4 sc around, or 5 sc around) so that it's pretty rigid on its own.

Could you glue the steam in???
@SweetSofties
@SweetSofties Год назад
You can if this is going to be an art doll (for display)! If this is a doll that's going to be played with and put into the wash, I don't think glue will hold up well.

Where do i buy yarn to learn above doll making. I am from India
@SweetSofties
@SweetSofties 2 года назад
Hi! I'm not sure which brands of yarns are available in India, but I'm using medium weight 100% acrylic yarn for most of my amigurumis! My go-to brands include: Brava Worsted, Hobbii Amigo XL, Red Heart Soft, Caron Simply Soft. Hope this helps!

I'm interested as to how people steady a doll that is large and has a very wide neck?
@SweetSofties
@SweetSofties 2 года назад
Hi! For a doll with a very wide neck, I recommend using the crocheted insert method. Crochet a cylinder to fit inside of the doll's neck, and make sure to stuff that cylinder very firmly!

Could this work if you have wire for the arms in the doll ? The pattern I am working uses wire for the arms and i tried to attach the head but it was too heavy and impossible to attach securely. I would appreciate any help with this issue thank you. I also need to mention the doll will be played with I did secure the wires off so they can't move or hurt any one
@SweetSofties
@SweetSofties Год назад
It could work if you secure the neckpiece in the neck area!
