Oh dear God, please forgive me for not seeing this review early. I'm here thanks to a link I found elsewhere. But oh boy, what a great review of a great game. You did a really good in-depth analysis of what makes Prey so great and at the same time frustrating to some (even if it's on purpose). This game is severely underrated, it's one of the most immersive, clever and thought-out experiences I had these years. This game blew my mind, and deserve each inch of praise a videogame can get in several areas. Great review, pal! If you liked the genre (considering other reviews here, I should say YES), please consider doing reviews of older games as well, as DX:HR, original DX, Bioshock, System Shock (there's a sequel and a remake coming), and pretty much any immersive sim out there. They are great and fully realized games, not linear pre-scripted boring experiences. One more subscribed to your channel, gonna recommend out there. Cheers!

Thanks so much for watching, really appreciate the kind words. Seems like we have very similar tastes in games - I love immersive sims like Deus Ex and the "Shock" games. Someday soon I'm planning on making an analysis of the Deus Ex series going back to the original to Mankind Divided, and possibly the immersive sim genre as whole. On a side note, not sure if you have already but the Mooncrash DLC is worth a buy. It was frustrating to me at first, but once I got the hang of it, it became a really fun and immersive playground. Thanks again for the comment.

I'm two years late to this, but...thanks for the video. I noticed it on the r/Prey subreddit and finally chose to give it a watch. And now I have a *long* response rant typed below... I love Prey (2017), I think it's a masterpiece -- a hidden gem -- of a game. I've played it at least 7+ times now. It's one of the most mind-bending games I've played. It's like an Immersive Sim, Role-Playing, Exploration and First-Person Shooter all in one shrieking bundle of joy. The long loading screens, the back-tracking, and the fetch quests can be a complete pain in the ass, yes, but in my opinion it's all worth it to suffer through those pains to get to the great stuff this game has to offer (like the excellent world building, beautiful views and fitting, vita emotional moments, empathy tests, and great in-game OST). I hate to be that person but that's all just in my opinion. I also love this game's lore and story, very much! It's explained well enough but I wish there was more. (There is in fact a DLC/Expansion for Prey (2017) -- Prey: Mooncrash. I haven't played it yet, but it's like a radically different, Rouge(ish?)-Like version of the main game that is very disconnected from the main game, both figuratively and literally. It looks like a very different, interesting experience, though.) I feel like this masterstroke of the 0451 genre was rushed -- it needed a bit more time in the dev oven -- and that the name, Prey, shouldn't have been used for this non-remake, * new * IP. Don't get me wrong, the title Prey fits this game very well, and we all need to learn to accept new things, but it it's the "comparison" this 2017 title gets with the unfairly duped 2006 one that led a lot of fans of Prey (2006) feeling betrayed, misinformed and in general left behind. I've never played Prey (2006), but from what I've heard and seen from it, it looks like a very intuitive, fun and engaging game just like Prey (2017) is, but for entirely different reasons of course. (The only similarities that '17 Prey and '06 Prey have is they both happen on a space station, there's hostile aliens trying to kill you, and you play as a total badass. Oh, and you're prey and those aliens are the hunters. That's it.) And then there's the fact that Bethesda -- I think? -- advertised Prey (2017) like it was a DOOM game or something. Like wtf were they thinking? Stupid nitpick but I thought I'd mention it. I also thought I'd mention the video essay by Ludocriticism (I think it's called "In Defense of Prey and Those Who Made It". For the life of me I can't recall the name). It's 40+ minutes, a great recommended watch and a discussion on Prey (2017)'s initial reception, in-game and out-of-game meta narratives, psychology, the games dev team and the gaming industry in general when it comes to workplaces and working conditions for the game devs. Idk, I think you'd like it. Maybe. Maybe not. Who knows? I hope this Prey and the original Prey get the love and attention they both deserve, and that they get actual sequels, someday. (*If I can hope and dream for a Dead Space 4 game or a functioning Star Citizen Indie game I can hope and dream for these too.*) I loved how you called the freaking Cystoid rad-bombs "little bitches" (*don't eat yellow snow!*), and I've liked this vid, subbed to you, and commented for my thoughts to be read and also for the random-ass RU-vid Algorithm Gods. Thank you again for this video and for reading this rant. Have a good -- or at least decent -- day/night, TranStar Employee! :D

First of all, thanks so much for the detailed comment...I love getting thoughtful responses like this. I agree with everything you said. Prey is one of my favorite games because it's so immersive and free in its approach to gameplay. You can go about playing the game almost however you want, and you can build a character based on your choice and the game allows you to use that character to your liking. It's in this way too that Prey is a role-playing game, although not in the same vain as Skyrim or something like that. I actually played Mooncrash a couple months ago. I was really frustrated by it at first as I thought the learning curve was really steep. But after about 10 hours or so, I figured out a good strategy for running through the simulation and had so much fun exploiting all of the elements the game offered. If you can pick it up I recommend it. You're right too about Bethesda, I thought they marketed the game all wrong. It's tough to market these immersive sim games, and I feel like most of the time Publishers end up only focusing on the combat and action and so like you said the trailers make it look like Doom, which could not be further from the truth. I I also hope that Prey will get more recognition in the future, and maybe Arkane will give us a sequel in the next-generation. Also, check out their upcoming game Deathloop - it's supposed to be a mix between Prey and Dishonored. Thanks again and take care.

@@anxietyreport9037 Thanks for the reply! I recommend you check out the video essay I mentioned. And yes I'll definitely buy and try out Prey: Mooncrash! Looks fun. :D IF another Prey game is released, I hope Bethesda markets it as it is and doesn't confuse and damn us all to spam the 'reload last save' option after being flung into the Shadow Realm. I'm going to check out your channel, as it looks very interesting. I'm glad it's grown so much tbh, YT needs most channels like it. Gushy-sounding but true imo. Please stay safe and healthy out there. This year and all the chaos isn't over yet. X"( Edit: just autocorrect being autocorrect :/ Last Edit: And yes Deathloop looks sick. I've also yet to play any of the Dishonored games...

Guys the time is now. When Microsoft bought bethesda, it meant that they now own the Prey IP. Now more than ever, it is possible that we can have the true Prey sequel. Prey 2 If anyone wants the revival of Prey 2, the time is now. If anyone wishes to sign this petition to bring back Prey 2, it would help significantly : chng.it/PGfs6MF2b7 I started this petition because I know that Prey 2 was something special and truly ahead of its time. And it was wrongly taken from us. And i feel that the game is something we all deserve. #RevivePrey2

I think critics are rushing to put out reviews and so not experiencing all the hidden features that are made for this type of game that's why those games like Deus ex might have mix reviews (just an opinion)

I can see that. It's intersting you mention Prey with Deus Ex because I noticed so many similarities between the two, the inventory system, the hacking mini-games, the world design and freedom to explore using abilities (augs and neuromods), they seemed to me like they're cut from the same cloth.

You could also say that dishonored is like that i think there just basic ideas that need to be implemented whatever happens for those type of games
