Oh wow, I'm kinda surprised the footage would even be used to prove her innocence. Perfect trope moment for the camera to go out and make her look like the aggressor.

Freaking love his videos go though the whole movie. So much of scary movies relies on visual cues and I can't see very well due to a degenerative condition. With these videos I can still enjoy my favorite genre and get to experience all the things I miss out on when watching

An 80s style TV series with Ann fighting demons would be fun!

I was half expecting everything to just be an elaborate delusion going on in her head while _she's_ the one undergoing an exorcism the whole time. I'm...honestly not sure if that would be any better or worse than the hero ending we got. Also: THE STIGMATA WOUNDS ARE WRONG. NAILS WERE HAMMERED THROUGH THE *WRISTS* IN CRUCIFIXTIONS. HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO TEACH YOU THIS LESSON, OLD MAN?

This really reminds me of this YA fantasy book I read a few months ago, it’s called Vespertine and it’s about a girl who was left at a convent housing “the gray sisters” where they basically where more nurses but could exorcise demons. What’s really tipping me off is the way she dresses, they don’t wear the hood but the color matches a lot lol.

When you started describing this movie, I pretty quickly started thinking that it doesn't feel like a horror movie, it feels like a superhero origin movie. They're creating a world where demons are a real and accepted part of reality, where they even draw the distinction between demonic possession and mental illness. And then they depict this Xavier-esque school for training exorcists to wield supernatural power, only you come to realize they have never succeeded. They may battle and subdue many demons with their arsenal of faith, but every victim dies, and the humans are ultimately losing this battle. Enter the nun, an outsider, an underestimated underdog who brings something new to their strategy: compassion, empathy, concepts the priests had never conceived of, because they entered every exorcism as soldiers, rather than healers. And now the Vatican has found something that strengthens the victim against the demon, and gives the possessed the power to escape and break free from possession... and suddenly the winning streak these demons have held for thousands of years has been broken. And they are pissed! Yeah, I kinda wish this movie did better, because that sounds like a franchise I'd like to see!

You know, whenever I hear about schools for Exorcists, my mind immediately goes to swords, light guns and crazy magic powers.

Nougat is made with sugar (or honey), egg whites, & lots of air. You can put all kinds of stuff in it for a yummy chewy sweet.

I feel like that an exorcist school would have blessed their fluorescents or have holy electricity or something to prevent light flicker. Also fire hoses of holy water.

Your recaps are so great it makes everything you cover sound so enticing and actually good. i was about to watch the movie myself then i saw the bad ratings and you saved me some money yet again!

I think the funny thing about these possession movies is that they are so type casted to cater to the a specific audience. As an atheist, it often times puzzling how people find stuff like this scary in terms of their own beliefs. There are real monsters out there in the world, people who happily kill ten or thousands of people at the whim of their fancy. Never have I seen a movie about the devil tackle anything like that, probably because it would make them question the nature of a benevolent "god" who would sit back and let this stuff happen. So instead we get the lonely little girl, innocent and fair, tainted by something otherworldly. Its not our fault, its the devil. I think the only movie that actually tackled this genre well was Saint Maud.

Have you watched the Devil Conspiracy? I enjoyed both Prey For The Devil and The Devil Conspiracy....great stuff....whereas Prey For The Devil is mixture of both Hereditary and Exorcism, The Devil Conspiracy is a mixture of both The Omen and The Da Vinci Code......loved both movies

I don't always agree with you on this or that, but something that I consistently appreciate with you is that you don't shill for movies that you don't personally like. You say flat out if you enjoyed a movie or not, and what it could have done better, and don't let it colour your breakdown of it too much. You're also the guy who arguably introduced me to the horror movie "The Void", which was like a breath of fresh air that I have repeatedly filled my lungs with since.

For me her being actual mother of a posessed girl kinda toned down protags whole girlboss moment. It’s would’ve been more interesting if demons faked the momento to lure her and then she realised the lie and would still save the girl. Something along those lines. Idk it’s just very cheesy coincidence in my opinion.

Just watched this yesterday, it was nothing groundbreaking but I did find it enjoyable. I gave it a 7/10 cause of the love I have for the possession horror genre. I thought it played things safe for good or bad.

Exorcism is usually just to get rid of the possesion in a human. It doesn't matter if the subject survives or not if the posession is gone then the exorcism was done successfully.

Amazing review! I feel that The Rite with Anthony Hopkins and The Exorcism of Emily Rose were better renditions of exorcism movies, at least within the 2000s.

When I was a kid I used to think being baptized was being drowned and if you lived you were saved and I don't know what I really thought if you died cause I doubt I really knew about Hell and all that

I liked this movie, it was new take on the genre imo

I swear, it's like Colin Salmon doesn't age. He looks exactly the same to me as he did in Resident Evil (2002) as James Shade, aka "One". He was 40 in RE and 60 in this film and hardly looks to have aged a day. Lucky genetics on that man.

I enjoyed this movie. I didn’t think I’d enjoy this but I found it very interesting. And interesting how the demons are representative of trauma and guilt from trauma (survivors guilt primarily). Very cool

So basically this was just another typical exorcist movie, but with the whole "strong independent woman" thing and the whole "men are stupid" thing added to it? It's like the female Ghostbusters but for the exorcist, right? Yeah, I'm glad I never heard of it before this.....

I love how it's a creepy start with the intro n then you see this chill hippie guy sitting inside a library

Okay the plot twist where that little girl was actually her daughter that was pretty cool!!

The film sucked without a doubt, though I have to say, the thought of the possessed cab driver trying to wriggle himself through the tiny window in the cab for a jump scare in-between shots made me laugh so hard, it easily guaranteed that the Devil’s Prey will stay with me for years to come.

Anyone visioned every shown scene as an anime too? Would have been a great anime

Their logic doesn’t make any sense. They punished her for Emilia despite her being exorcised, she died. Which is the exact definition of the terminal cases. Which they’ve done a million times. And on some of them, they didn’t even exorcise the demons, they just kill them. Crazy.

I'm looking forward to your ending explained of "Skinamarink". Saw it on Friday with some friends. I won't spoil anything but I will say this: remember Samara's "tape" from The Ring? It was like watching a 2 hour version of that. And yes, I nodded off a bunch of times.

I love how the men and that nun kept saying women couldn't be exorcists, but Dante was perfectly fine even though he was the most useless character in the entire film.

i think everyone assumed it was going to be an incisdious type horror movie when it was more of a a horror graphic novel story.

This was the one movie in a very very long time where we got up and left halfway through as wife wasn't feeling well and we both were bored! I am not a horror movie snob but this movie somehow felt like it was intentionally wasting our time.. The premise had so much potential though.
