#caliche #graveldriveway #farming
My farm had a swamp. A swamp right where the driveway was situated.
So, over the course of 2 years I dug a stock pond and moved all the mud to the drive and raised the whole things about 2 feet. This made a huge difference.
However, Texas red dirt is unforgiving when wet - and the top 2 inches would still turn to muck - maybe even impassable if the cattle tromped it all.
Time for a solution - which is a limestone gravel called caliche. It is impermiable to water, which means the clay underneath should stay dry even in the rain. It compacts super tight and looks nice.
I paid $330 a load delivered and dumped with chains. Either 3" deep or 4" depending on my preference.
Thanks for joining me. I hope I gave you some value for your visit.
