If yall are wondering what the chief was saying in episode 2 heres the gist of it: He was speaking old Gaelic "Stay back and clam down" "Bring some water" "Get him something to eat" And when spear goes to leave he tells him "You're free to stay with us"
I did notice the white cliffs of Dover as an analogue for where Fang washed up. If this is the case, it might be assumed that the pair set sail from "present day" France in the beginning of the episode. I feel like the creators play pretty loosely with paleontology and geology, however, it's interesting to think about. Apparently, the UK and mainland Europe were all connected by land bridges in the past, with the entire area known as "Doggerland" around 6000 BCE.
@@jessesloan864 Its a fantasy world, I don't think they want to make it seem like its just our world in the past. I hope they don't, it would ruin a large part of the mystery surrounding the show
I think one of the reasons why Spear was so terrified when he woke up is because the medicine woman looked an awful lot like one of the witches in season one who almost killed him.
Oml you're right! Poor Spear gets a lot of PTSD in the recent episode. Because of Fangs friend who looks like the ceratos that killed both their families and the healer who looked like the murderous witches
@@sugargirl1883 exactly and I imagine Spear also shows a lot of loyalty to the Picts because they saved his life, and all the sudden there's this murderous dinosaur on the loose.
@@CreamIc7 I gonna say it's Spear for going stubborn and completely ignores Fang's sign, but it's shown that the dino duo killed 4 men of the village Spear resides so it's all their fault, the duo dinos and Spear
@@CreamIc7 when they going to the village I thought that the red T-Rex was a domesticated by the Celts but instantly he killed 3 men shown that this is Genndy's Primal, anything brutal can happen and it still make a story
Fun fact: That drunkenness displayed by Fang and Range when they eat the fruit isn’t just a made up little interaction. Animals such as bears will also get drunk off of rotted, fermented fruit.
Spear was a little stubborn to hurt the tyrannosaurid, ignoring Fang's sign that it was her ally, in the unexpected conflict, Fang is rational and decided to hold both individual to avoid destructive fight and more deaths, Fang was brought up to the village, thinking it's source of prey, but she met again with spear, both shocked, and the tyrannosaurid keep going to predate until he sees Spear too, attempting to put him into the menu, but it is cut off by Fang intervenes the two, Spear also told the village people to hold their attack, and Fang told the tyrannosaurid to stay, but Spear going completely jackass and hurting the tyrannosaurid, thus leads destruction of the village, Fang loses her new closest friend, while Spear had been marked for bringing destruction to the Celtic society
I hope they kind of like revive him like if the villiagers remove the wood and heal him type of sort of thing for spear in favor of Fang for like forgiveness
As much as I wish Spear wouldn't attack Range, in his defense other than Fang the last dinosaurs Spear saw that looked like her killed his family, now Range who almost look like the other red dinos (plus has a nose bumb) is now killing his new family. So this is probably not only a grudge but a way for Spear to redeem himself.
We have to consider trauma as well, Spear is a very damaged person by the things he's seen, suffered and done. After his family died in front of him, he almost killed himself, think of everything that's happened since like with the sauropod, especially that. So yea Spear seeing a dino looking similar to the ones that killed his family, killing more innocent humans might trigger some rage in Spear.
One thing I found interesting about the episode of “Shadow of fate” is it shows Fang and the other dinosaur getting drunk and sleeping together, then near the end of the episode it shows a mother bird feeding her child. So was that implying that fang maybe pregnant?
huh I didnt think about it that way did they well um have sex offscreen possibly? And she might have kids later on? Or was it symbolic with the nesting birds?
A general theme of the show is how good things don't last and I think it's a symbol of the cruelty of that period - The birds enjoying a peaceful communion while the merciless journey continues for Fang and Spear.
Another thing that should be pointed out is that Range (as you call him) bears a similar resemblance to the tyrannosaurs that killed Spear's family due to the red color hue around his face. This fact, combined with the fact that Range killed the Celtic people whom Spear built a bond with, likely lead to Spear having a PTSD episode and caused him to lash out in anger and violence, as if to say that Spear was reliving his worst nightmare all over again.
Bet he was confused too that Fang wasn't having an episode either. Which I think is because Range/ Scout as I call him is an actual male variant of Fang's species unlike those giant ceratosaurs.
I was having such a good time watching two T-Rexes wandering the land hunting together and then BOOM! This show decided that it is time to remind me that it is going have something hard to watch in every episode. Spear lost his mate and his kids in one fell swoop, Fang now has lost her offspring and now (possibly her second) her mate too. But I also love how they both blame themselves and also don't hesitate to keep together. If this were some other show they'd do something like have Fang get angry and blame Spear, but not this show. Fang is never going to forget all that Spear did for her and betray him. Their bond is the only real constant in this show.
Spear throwing the sharp wood into the shark's eye is honestly one of the most BADASS things I've ever seen in a cartoon. I mean, forget Jaws, THIS is the most epic way to take down a shark!!!!
"Don't know why putting shit in a wound when you have a broken arm is going to heal you." The further back you go in history, the more medical science was less a science and more throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks. In Spear's case, literally.
@@taddad2641 I was thinking that, and I honestly hope so...keeping hatchlings alive would be so treacherous in their world, but maybe with Spear and Mera both (if he rescues her and they have kids of their own someday) they could finally have their happily ever afters. God knows they've earned it. I feel a little doubtful they might go that route though, considering I half expected a show like Primal to either show more courtship or suggestive behavior if they were going to go that route. For whatever reason, they chose to leave it pretty ambiguous so I don't know. I'd like to see that, but I also don't want to get my hopes up. :/ I'll just keep drawing fan-art of them with my own fluffy tyrannosaur OC (a nanuqsaurus boi) to cheer myself up 😅 lol
I personally wouldn’t be surprised if Fang ends up being pregnant & having eggs. I honestly hope that. It was just an unfortunate situation full of misunderstandings that led to the further injury to Spear & the accidental death of Red face Rex. I would have been awesome if Spear gained another dinosaur companion but again that would have gotten in the way of Fang & Spears relationship. Honestly, his death was kinda Spears fault too. He didn’t listen to Fang. Red face Rex stood down but (understandable) Spear ignored her pleads of mercy on him & attacked him anyways causing him to go into rage.
@@taddad2641 i thought that too this is a safe way for Gennedy to safely have her her giving birth without it coming out of the blue he could play it both ways might not have made his mind up yet with her having more offspring or some kind of dual family if spear gets it on with mira
I freaking cried. I think the reason range/red was submissive to fang is because she's much more aggressive than he is because the lands they are from are different. Cool to see dinos still around here too.
We haven’t yet got a good idea as to what the ecology is like in this new realm. As a result, we can place a definite answer as to why Range behaves differently as Fang would
@@lochness5524 nah I think there's enough context clues from his behavior and the village itself that dinos here are likely different, humans are around which means they most likely hunt the dinos. Tis how I feel about it and it's not changing till we get more information

@UCuwHN7jkbc5Pfr4FK-MQFaQ brah I live in India, and there's no hbo max or AS here. I was lucky to watch the first episode on fb just now. Dying to watch the 2nd :(
17:07 I laughed at the Red Rex basically being frozen, almost like it’s his first time seeing a girl “Alright man just be cool, just do like uncle said, look her in the eye and give her the shoulder touch, (wiggles forearms) wait a minute.” “Time for a strategic retreat.”
I know we should all be sad and very disappointed on why Genndy decided to do this to us lol but at the end of episode 2 it showed a mother bird feeding a baby bird I'm not sure if that's supposed to symbolize something but it's not possible that Fang could be pregnant right?
I don't think that was a baby bird, it was the bird pair from the beginning of the episode. They put it in to show the viewers a happy relationship, one that Fang just lost access to.
I liked that showing off the pterosaurs gave an indication they were near land. People used to use birds as an indicator for whether they were close to land or not.
These two episodes are the equivlant of a newly spawned yet absolutely high-level Ark Player and his Rex tame encountering a low-level but friendly tribe and the A.I. ruins everything
Spear saw range eat a women, much similar to his dream/memory of when the red dinosaur ate his wife and his kids. I think that’s why Spear lost control and tried to attack him.
This was a pretty heavy and strong start. Fang ultimately choosing Spear instead of a potential mate is strong character development for her. It was also good to see Spear around other humans that didn’t want him dead. Even though he could stay there, ultimately Fang is his family. As is Mira who I hope they still find.
@@Nonamearisto If it took a lot of time for Spear's arm to heal, then why do we never see his arm broken after the witch coats his arm with the healing cream?
@@senpie6639 I mean fangs new mate is dead so IDK what the comparison is for he didn't listen to fang and attacked her new friend despite her calming things down a bit
24:16 I love the shocked expressions on the villagers’ faces as if they’ve never seen a man leap as high as Spear and his physical prowess and the way he moves is almost like an animal.
The Chief was a good man. Even after all bloodshed that happened, he didn't blame Spear and was able to understand it was more complicated. And he didn't force Spear to stay. He made a plea and understood, man-to-man, that despite the fact that Spear COULD be happy in the village, he belongs somewhere else.
S2E1 helped to reintroduce Spear and Fang's dynamic, while also expanding their world and environment. S2E2 allowed both Spear and Fang to recuperate after their harrowing voyage across sea, but also to remind themselves of what each of them had lost way at the beginning of season 1 (with tragic results, of course). We can only hope that the rest of season 2 will start to pick-up from here, and continue expanding the world that Spear and Fang inhabit!
I was also sad because the ginger viking analouge that stopped the tribe from killing Spear looked like a good bro, like he could've helped Spear find the slavers & provide a home.
@@Onionmaster97 They could be Ancient Celts, but the blue body paint was more akin to the Scottish; not the Irish. William Wallace was a Scottish warrior, and both he and his fellow Scottish warriors wore blue body paint. Then again, this could be before the Irish and the Scottish separated...
Fang was put in a position that no would want to be in. At the end she accidentally killed her new love interest to protect her best friend. I swear it’s like this show wants the characters happiness to go away.
When they were floating out at sea and getting hungrier and hungrier I was genuinely concerned that Fang might try to eat Spear or vice versa. And that had to have been a HUGE test to their bond because being stranded at sea can drive even the toughest of people absolutely insane with hunger and thirst pushing them to the limit. It just shows how strong Spear and Fang’s bond it that they didn’t even consider eating each other during the that time of desperation. They were will to die together of starvation or thirst which is honestly really wholesome.
I liked in the second episode how they begin with the two birds fighting for resources and chasing after each other only to start a nest together later to contrast the separation that happened between range and fang
0:05 It makes sense that spear and fang would react violently towards that whale they both grew up in an extremely dangerous and hostile environment Seeing such a large creature would definitely make you uneasy
I interpreted the fruit tree scene a little differently. I don't think Range eats them to get high. Fang started eating the fruit off the ground before Range did. Range was like "huh, I've eaten these before but never off the ground." I was wondering why there were fruits on the ground because we didn't see any fall. They must have fallen long before Fang and Range came. Then, they didn't get high. They got drunk🥴! Those fruits on the ground were fermented. It's appropriate because it happens to their descendants too. Birds swallow berries and keep them in their crop where they ferment and make the bird drunk. I like that scene because it's cute and scientifically accurate.
I loved the new T-Rex character. I nicknamed him Spike in my head because of all the little horns on his body. (In retrospect maybe that wasn't the best name for him given his fate) The episode's title "Shadow of Fate" makes me nervous about the future though. I'm wondering if this episode is making a point that dinosaurs and humans can't coexist for very long. Spike's death feels prophetic about something bad happening to Spear and Fang. I hope I'm wrong but I have a gut feeling about it.
@ZBH Based on a tweet I was last night, "Spike" as you call him(I called him "Red Head") isn't a T-Rex, but an unspecified species that resembles a T-Rex.
I'm guessing the "Shadow of Fate" title has to do with Fang, remember the very last shot of the ep is a mother bird feeding its young, which could be a callback to ep 1, a showing of a happy family while spear n fang are miserable, or maybe Fang is preggers?
I really wanted so badly for red( which I call the therpod) and fang to become a thing like Mira and spear are its very clear they like each other. So when fang met red I thought they would become a thing and have babies together but no fang not allowed to have any mor kids since season one that was her first and only chance.
the real heartbreaking thing about episode 2 is that both spear and fang abandoned their new friends in order to be together. but it wasnt meant to be, as much as they look similar to those new people, they dont really belong here. their only way is foward
Thank god HBO Max updated it today with both the first 2 episodes of S2. Also Poor Fang Losing her babies was hard enough but losing her future potential husband/father to new hatchlings was very rough for her. Spear afterwards understood what happened as he left the village to comfort his friend.
After seeing your video on the 1st season, I had to see it for myself, and it's just fantastic, in my opinion. Gritty and riveting. I can't wait to see more!

The Megalodon, Humpback Whales and Archelon, the giant sea turtle were amazing to see in the first episode. Megalodon was gargantuan! In real life it was 50 ft long but in the sho, it was 100 Ft Long!!
It’s scenes like the one in episode 2 of Primal that really makes your mind split and feel for both sides. The differences between man and nature are usually so opposite they hardly have anything in common. In this episode we saw both stories unfold and made us feel for both sides. On the one hand, the villagers are defending themselves and their families against this beast that is eating and terrorizing them. On the other hand Range is just being a dinosaur and doing what he’s always done to get food. Spear and Fang had a remarkable encounter which put them in a 1 in a million situation where they needed each other to survive and afterwards formed a bond that had never been seen before. However here Fang is torn between her human friend her new dinosaur friend. Fang wants to be in another normal relationship with another dinosaur, but at the same time doesn’t wanna give up Spear. She is torn by both worlds and neither Spear or the Range understand that. She wanted both, but sadly that can never happen. This reminds me a lot of the How to Train your Dragon story when hiccup finally realizes Toothless could never truly be happy and live his best life with Hiccup so he loved him enough to let him go. I believe the same thing is gonna happen at the end of Primal and Spear will have to say goodbye to Fang.
I think separating Spear and Fang would work, with each going their own way because it would be better, but in the case of how to train your dragon, Toothless just wants to run away to mate and doesn't care if your female tries to kill her best friend, and in the end hiccup quickly gives up on his life goal because his dragon wants to go away and take the others with him, because his female wants to go back to her home.
@@v128H I think Hiccup just realized Toothless would be happier if he was free in general. And he was king where he lived and had a mate and was able to start a family. He loved Toothless enough to let him go.
I really like how at the end of episode 2, despite the fact that Fang is clearly depressed and possibly angry at Spear, Spear still comes with her. It really shows just how strong their bond is, even though their lives without each other seemed pretty okay up to that point
I hope Spear now gets that thier teamwork is not just about survival, its also about having a life as a team. Fang finally has a mate again and he is now gone again, meanwhile Spear has the chance to join a humanoid society again, a chance that is still open for him, but not for Fang
The second episode is a very interesting take on nature vs nurture. Fang without hesitation went into killing humans and as soon as spear shows up, she’s ready to defend him. At the same time she’s probably in heat and found a mate so now she’s ready to be what she is, an animal. She was ready to defend her mate too. She was in between them. She was trying to get her mate away from spear and the village. But spear still being a human, possessive and, stubborn, wanted to kill the other theropod. So much to take in from that. But at the end of the day, they have each other weather they like it or not.
It was very depressing to see the male Rex die. I was kind of hoping Fang would keep her mate. I have a feeling that she may have bread with him while they were both drunk, so hopefully there's going to be a litter of baby Rex's produced.
12:11 This was one of my favorite parts of the whole episode cuz it shows the progression and build of of a feeding frenzy. It starts out small with the flying fish which attracts bigger fish which then attracts the pterodactyls which attracts the Megalodon. That’s exactly what happens in real life to it starts out with the smallest creatures and leads up to the top predators. I’m really glad they included that and didn’t just make the Megalodon appear out of nowhere which I thought was gonna happen.
I nearly cried when Fang accidentally killed her boyfriend. I felt so bad for her. I felt bad for the both of them. Just watching how Fang was grieving over him 😭😭😭 The look on Spears face when he realized Fang loved Range. God I love this show. I was laughing so hard when Fang and Range got drunk together 🤣🤣 I also thought they got high at first. I died when Range bumped into the tree 🤣🤣🤣 Thank you for getting me into this show. I have gotten one friend into it. I've tried getting others into it as well. Can't wait for the next episode.
The rhino like animal is called a Arsinoitherium. It’s a African species from the late Eocene epoch, part of a group of mammals that are more closely related to Elephants and Hyrax’s then they are to Rhinos
When Alteori was like “Every shot is like a wallpaper! You can freeze at an point and just hang it up on your wall!” I was like “Oh god! Did she get a Dissplate sponsor?” 😂😂
I still don’t understand why Range attacked the village. He’s clearly done it before because he knew exactly what to do and how to get around the village fence. But why take the risk of going to the village? There are clearly much easier ways to get food and as we can see it’s very dangerous for him to attack the villagers since their weapons do pretty significant damage to him. So why does he do it? My hypothesis is he might do it just for the sport and thrill of it. Or possibly he’s doing it to get back at the villagers for possibly killing one of his family members. That’s just my theory.
I really hope you bring back the "Fang POV from Primal" series back, not only do I want this to be done from her point of view, but I also want to know her point of view during episode 6. I loved the part where Fang sees Spear scratched up after fighting all the coyotes and immediately tries to get up and tear them into shreds!
The fact that the theropod literally leaned against the tree after they got drunk is hilarious. “Suuuuup gurrrrl” “Heeeeey” That’s what I think they said lmao.
No Adult show can get me to cry over a dinosaurs’ Death. The Irish Man said this, through google translate- " You’re a (Something that’s not a federalist), stay with us. "
the entire time i was watching "shadow of fate", i kept going "don't get attached, it's Primal". It did absolutely nothing to soften the blow, but at least I could see it coming.
The villagers actually spoke Irish, not Scottish. I don’t speak it but I was able to Google translate it. The only person who spoke was the cheif and all he said was “Stay back” when the villagers were attacking Spear and then he said “Bring water” and “Bring food” afterwards when giving peace offerings to Spear. At the end tho he offers for Spear to stay with them. He says “You are a fighter, stay with us.” and that’s when Spear leaves with Fang and the episode ends.
Anyone else think that last shot of a mated pair of birds is foreshadowing something? Maybe Fang's pregnent, after getting "busy" with Range, and will lay eggs later the season?
Yeah I was really bummed out when Red "Rang" died I thought he'd make a really great additon to the team & then you had the tribe. I thought that they were gonna gain them as friends & continue after Mira but no. "Rang" being Red he's a danger & dies.
I think that in the second episode, fang. she'll be depressed. And maybe Spear trying to apologize to her, but fang she won't accept it and spear will do something really heroic, and she'll forgive him. And I think in some episodes you get finally finally, a boy friend.
Alteori, you should watch The Call of The Wild. It’s story about a dog that gets kidnapped and used as a sled dog while at the same time a dominate dog abuses it’s power as the alpha role. It’s great story and I think you’d really enjoy it.
What I really loved about Shadow of Fates is the autonomy it gives Fang as a character. We’ve seen it in bits and pieces in previous episodes where Fang opposes Spear, but that’s usually to protect him. This is the first time we’ve seen Fang protecting her OWN interests by defending her new mate. It makes it all the more crushing when she accidentally kills him.
I'm sorry love. I've been watching this show with my fiance an when we saw the end of the ep2 we sad cuddled. For what it's worth 'gives you a hug'. I hope you will feel better.
That was not a coelacanth that was a Devonian fish called dunkleosteus. Really though the array of sea life in that one episode from different periods in seas was crazy. The Devonian, the Miocene, possibly even the Cretaceous with that giant sea turtle. Are they time traveling like Jack did? Idk and really I don't care this was AWESOME to watch
@@chadcostello1407 imagine if one giant one came and attacked them at the same time with the Meg. That be an awesome fight for food but Dunkleosteus would have TOTALLY WON
That second episode set the bar really high for this season. Spear defending the humans from Cherrybomb and Fang from the humans, and Fang trying to defend Spear from Cherrybomb and Cherrrybomb from Spear and the other humans was really yanking on the ol' heartstrings. On one hand it was sweet seeing Spear and Fang protecting each other again, but on the other hand, the events of the episode really hit the point home that Spear and Fang are so different from each other. By having the relationship that they have, they're also excluding themselves from most relationships with other creatures like them. I see this potentially being the basis for a rift between the two, but I'm not sure. I am really curious as to where they go from here. With most shows, the contents of episode 2 would start a story arc that spans the rest of the season, but Primal isn't like other shows. Fang almost died in S1 Ep5, but she was completely fine by the end of Ep6, so it wouldn't surprise me if the potential conflict here gets swept aside.
@Bluespirit he attacked first yes but he was killing his newly found friends and charged him I'd attack him too it was inevitable this is basically a recall of the river of snakes and how they handle things differently this was just unfortunately something that couldn't be avoided
Not sure if you Caught on but right at the end of ep 2 you can see the same seagulls that were originally fighting over food. They made a nest for eggs. So fang might be a mother again
I took that as the writers’ way of showing us how those situations could have turned out better. If everyone involved took the time to understand and work with each other (don’t ask me how it would have happened), the “worm” that was these new bonds the two “birds” that are our main characters had formed would not have split.
My theory is Fang is pregnant with Ranges babies because I think the Bird when it’s feeding it’s baby was foreshadowing that Fang will be a mother soon
I was getting such huge "Big Water from Land Before Time 5" vibes, but with more thrill, which was amazing. Second episode wrecked me. I was hoping the boyo would make it through...but sigh...I am guessing that Spear and Fang's relationship will be rather strained from episode 3 and onward. But like it was 3-4 people died from their attack? Man... The hope crushing was too much for me. XD
The final scene with the little love birds was a symbol of how birds that evolved from dinos can show and display love the same way Spear and Range did :(
Yeah so far, Episode 2 is my most favorite of season 2 mainly because i like the dynamic between Fang and Red (that the name i gave him) and it was sad to see Fang all depressed and heartbroken after Red dies by the sharp stick i felt really bad for her.
These episodes didn't hold back. Primal represents the sheer nastiness of what life would be like in these Edgar Rice Burroughs-style Lost Worlds. Every day is a brush with death, fighting or loss.
The villagers speak Irish so that would mean Spear and Fang are at or at least somewhere near modern day Ireland. However, Mira spoke Arabic which means the people who took her must be somewhere near modern day Arabia I would think. So that means Spear and Fang still have a long ways to travel to find Mira.
God damn with that megalodon I was on the edge of my seat. I already have pretty bad thallassmaphobia so Spear staring into the darkness of the ocean didn't help much.
Right up until the blood splat as she kicked him I was hoping they'd all team up. Spear, Fang, Range and the Wolf. I have a feeling we'll see the lead Celt again.
You also have to realise the red rex looks remarkably similar to the one which potentially killed spears family possibly explaining the hostility aswell.
There is a theory that fang is pregnant, in the beggining of the episode we see 2 birds figthing for food, like fang and red boy with the ryno, later we se the 2 birds geting along, like fang and red boy, and are the end of the chapter web Saw the same Bird feeding a baby, so is posible that red boy and fang did some +18 things out of camera and that maybe fang end Up laying some eggs and ended up with babys again, and im personally scared, cause if the theory end Up being correct, im afraid something end Up happening to the babys, cause as we can ser in chapter 2 of sesión 2, in this show, we just can not have nice things
The folks there are Celtic. Scots are part of that but going way back Celts used to range from Ireland to Asia Minor. I'd actually recommend comparing the Canary Islands and Spain were Celtic tribes were fairly common. Another good location is the Balearic islands and southern France. They could be early Gauls.
@@toade1583 no, hes right. Archeologists and historians also think that celts might've originated somewhere in austria before spreading all over the place from spain all the way to middle eastern turkey.
