Do you find you get a lot of questions or requests from Indian parents wanting their children to be able to study in English as opposed to German? Do you speak German at work or with your kids at home? Or watch TV in German with your kids? What language do you use with the parents of your child's classmates?

Our son couldn’t pick up German really well. He spoke German only in school. But he was really uncomfortable. So we had to think about another options like relocating to the area where there’s an international school, where the medium of study is English. However, that option is a bit expensive and the places are limited. Unfortunately my son could not get admission there. And we thought of another option, i.e India. So now he is studying in India for a couple of years until we move somewhere else, or he learns German or gets admission in an international school in Germany.

@@AtAGlanceWithNeha Thanks for sharing your experience. I think with young children, when moving to a different country, the parents really also have to become immersed in the new language -- even at home. Otherwise the child must learn, as opposed to acquire the language. It can start with something simple as no TV in English or a few phrases like "What do you want for supper?" or going to a movie in the local language. I learned French, by going to a French language uni. However, my sibling did not. Even as an adult he does not watch TV or read newspapers in French, nor have as many social connections in French. Yet we went to the same schools prior to uni. French is my main language of work, even though English is my mother tongue, the language we spoke at home. Parents spoke Bangla among themselves.

Hi, I am planning to move Germany with my 6-year-old child , So the teacher will translate things from german to English for some time until he learns it correctly or how it work if you can explain that would be great.

Hi, I'm glad to know that. In our case, the state government initially provided an assistant for my son due to his communication issues. Before he started school here during his kindergarten period, we had attended several appointments with doctors. The doctor suggested providing assistance to him, to the state government and school, but it was only for the initial months. Now he is on his own, and the level of support a child receives depends on his class teacher. Additionally, during vacation time, they offer several German language courses for immigrant school kids to help ease their transition, in addition to a weekly German language class. Hope this helps :)

@AtAGlanceWithNeha Год назад
Hi Deepa.. welcome to Germany.. & thanks for reaching out...yes my son goes to Public School. Here school is assigned by authorities as per the catchment area. We do not choose the school basically. And enrollment process starts few months before. But as you are a bit delayed in that process, so please register to " Bürgerarmt" , which is the registration office in your city. This should start the admission process. And As per the German laws, your child has a right to go to local government school. Hope I answered your questions.

Hi I am planning to move to Germany with family. Have a kid who is studying class-1 in India. When normally does academic year starts in Germany? Are the public schools good considering if we again move back to India will he face problems in academics? Kindly advise. Thanks in advance.
@AtAGlanceWithNeha
@AtAGlanceWithNeha 11 дней назад
Hi, I understand your concerns as a parent. In Germany academic year starts in September. Studying in public school is widely considered by Indian expats, as it’s free of cost (almost). And there are no public English medium schools. Private international schools are good, but they are expensive and are not everywhere. This whole matter could be really subjective. And depends on your child as well, that how well he/she copes up with this shift. My son couldn’t. So I’m in India for his studies now. Until we get some other resolution of this.

Hi Neha ...can u please tell that do we need to some food( e.g. muffins , cake etc) for kids first day of grundschule
@AtAGlanceWithNeha
@AtAGlanceWithNeha Год назад
Hello 👋 , no you don't need to..kids have to just go with their parents, and the list of the school material is usually given by school specifically for the first day of the school , for eg. Schultute, pencil case, school bag etc. On the first day of school refreshment is provided by the school for everyone.

Hi, education is free here in Germany. You don't need to pay anything in public schools. Medium of education is German, and for immigrants they conduct integration language courses too in school.

Hi m. Moving to Germany next year with my 8 years old son actually in india wo already 2nd grade m hai mujhe ye pareshani h ki kya move krne k baad wo adjust kr payega like language barrier nd kya use kindergarten se start krna hoga schools m only german h bolte h ya international students k liye or bhi options hai? Plzz ans
@AtAGlanceWithNeha
@AtAGlanceWithNeha Год назад
No, he can start directly from the school. Starting me language barrier aayega. But mostly kids cope up really fast. And mostly schools provide language courses for immigrant children. So, that support you'll get from the school.

Ap ka bata Grund Schule Ma kitna time rahta hai ? Aur Hausaufgabe kn karwata hai
@AtAGlanceWithNeha
@AtAGlanceWithNeha 8 месяцев назад
There are two options about the timing. First one is child can stay up to 12 pm , but there will be no lunch/meals from school, and home work has to be taken care by parents only. Another option is, child can stay up to 3.30 pm. Here, lunch will be provided by school ( we have to pay for that ) , and home work will be taken care by school.

Is it allowed by the grundschule to take leave of 15/20 days during school session.. to visit India for attending marriage ceremony
@AtAGlanceWithNeha
@AtAGlanceWithNeha Год назад
I can completely correlate to your concern as an expat. Officially that is not allowed.. but still depends on school to school... If they are approachable, you can tell them your scenario. And if they feel , they can approve the leaves. You'll need a letter from school to show at the airport for your child. In my case, fortunately we got the leaves for a month. But you got to be really fortunate for that. And since it's only year one, so it doesn't make much difference and he'll get all his worksheets in advance for holiday time. Hope that helped :)

Hello great .we r from india planning to join our kids in Germany public school is it possible grade 6 and 5.is there hostels for kids.
@AtAGlanceWithNeha
@AtAGlanceWithNeha 2 месяца назад
Hi, Yes, your children may join a German school. However, the grade level for admission will depend on the specific school’s criteria. Additionally, there will be integration courses to help bridge the language gap. As for hostels for young children in Germany, I haven’t heard of any, so I can’t provide a definitive answer on that. Best regards

They divide classes into sections based upon the strength of students. And there are not more than 20-25 students in each section.
