From I was a child, the residents of St. Thomas have been blocking the roads and burning tyres and protesting about bad road conditions. The govt. has listened to them and is now providing them with good roads. Still, some people are unhappy. If the govt gave them a highway bypassing the communities, they would complain that the roads in the communities are bad. If the govt. gives them good roads in the communities, they complain that a highway would have been better. You just can't please certain people.

@@davidclayton2883 Mr. Clayton you have to take a few things into consideration, (1) Our #1 foreign exchange earner is TOURISM and we get the foreign exchange from Tourists , (2)we need first world roads to cater for the TOURISTS, (3) we need an HIGHWAY around the ISLAND to facilitate the Tourist, because that is what they are accustomed to in country , Now is modern times, we need modern FIRST WORLD ROAD , A 4 LANE HIGHWAY WILL ELIMINATE HEAD ON COLLISION, How often you hear on the RUNAWAY BAY TO MAMIE BAY HIGHWAY VEHICLES OVERTAKING A LINE OF VEHICLES AND END UP IN A HEAD ON COLLISION, 7 DEAD 17 BROK UP , IF YOU HAVE A 4 LANE HIGHWAY YOU ELIMINATE THAT , THERE'S NO WAY YOU CAN HAVE A HEAD ON COLLISION ON A 4 LANE HIGHWAY, DO I MAKE ANY SENSE ??? YOUR FEEDBACK PLEASE

Please don't describe St. Thomas people as "certain people". Why won't we as a people expect quality work and hold the system for accountability. No wonder we are treated like this over the years. We too blasted political, orange and green. We must respect others; cause not until the problem reach u. Or maybe some do not demand quality. The road money was squandered in other parishes then we get 'wat lef'. Is full time we unite and feel each other pains.

@@alvirasamuels4942 This has nothing to do with what I have said. I have said that the roads are now being fixed and some people are still not happy. Not matter what the govt. does, they will never be happy. I am patiently waiting until next year when I can finally visit Reach Falls. I am waiting until I can sit on the sea wall opposite the Police Station and that little Anglican church. While people are complaining, I will be enjoying the beach in Manchioneal. I have been waiting too many years for this road.

@@errolwishart1044 I am just happy to have good roads in Portland and St. Thomas. For years I have wanted to spend time in places like Manchioneal, Long Road and Reach Falls. I have never been able to do this because of the condition of the road. Highway or community road? I don't care. Next year I will be at Reach Falls and on the beach in Manchioneal and Long Bay. I will leave the complaining and the quarreling to others. I will be having too much fun.

The Prime Minister himself admitted that the government has made a mistake.We can’t just look at the economic fallout,but what is better in the long term.

And am very confident that a 4 lane toil road is not the best option long term for st Thomas residents. You notice the toil rate keep rising monthly. You need to see the bigger picture. Take portmore as examples.

Agree with you Karity. at this point in time it is the best thing for St, Thomas. Highway through the hills would not only be tolled it would also take away business and development of the present communities. In addition the deplorable conditions that the present roads were in would only continue to get worst. There is no way the government would be doing a highway through the hills while simultaneously redoing the present roads with improve water and telecommunication infrastructures.

Improvements is always better but some just love to chat, running their mouths letting out bad gas with empty words. Me love the improvements. Yes the people have to pay, nothing for nothing, either way, you a pay from you pocket. [ vehicle repairs on old road or tolls, people pick one]

Klarity boss you are absolutely right. A toil road from harbor view to port Antonio who be to the detriment of st Thomas Socially, environmentally and economically. Firstly toil road are build with non competing clauses. This mean once that toil road is built the government can no longer established or even maintain any alternative route. This result in residents of st Thomas and Portland been force indirectly pay toil when they want to come to Kingston. Secondly there would be significant economic fallout especially In places like yallahs and port morant. Thirdly the very government had confessed that a research was done and it revealed that there isn’t enough traffic along this route to justify a toil road. I could list more but am just going to say I urge residents of st Thomas to support the project because it’s a good thing for the people of the east. I am also a-wear that most of the people who wanted the 4 lane toil road are those who are either been politically influenced , insensitive to the need of the poor or those who speed reckless on our thoroughfare and would like that wide 4 lane road to fill there addition causing further accidents and mayhem on our road.

Remember a feasibility study was done ✅ by Stanley Consultant from the United States. I hope in the near future they will build a highway for St Thomas? You can't have one route to go from point A to B. For example if an accident happens around Roach Gully where would you go? We need another route around Roach Gully 😢

I agree 100% with you Klarity my only wish is that all the old road could have been upgraded before a major new highway alignment built. But i understand jamaica is not rich so that would have been impossible. This decision made by the PM was the right one. Not only is the old alignment getting upgraded to modern day standard but new water mains, sewage lines, internet fiber plus new electricity distribution lines. A toll road would have not made all of these upgrades possible until yrs from now after the toll is built and economic gains start to be made. This is going to touch people lives of both parishes in a meaningful way far better than a new toll road.

The prime minister's job is to plan for the future, and in planning for the future you should see what will be future problems. What happened when the traffic along that road increases then they're going to have the same situation Montego Bay is having no they're going to have to find another way to bypass all these places that once may be crying over now. When tractor trailers and the traffic coming from the airport start to flood this side to go to the tourist's area as that may increase down the road The people who are now saying they're going to lose money will be the ones crying that there's too much traffic. But I guess that's just down the road.❤

Yes Kflex: this is going to be a game changer for the people that use the road on a daily basis. to think what they had before this is no comparison. I sincerely hope that the powers that be put in the sidewalks and drains that protect the pedestrians from indiscretionate drivers and torrential rainfall. Anything worth doing should be done with the users in mind at all times

This is a very big myth. Country need highway but not at every corner. Jamaican need to focus on alternative transport and preserve it’s natural environment beauty. Mountain, river and scenic landscapes. We don’t need our parish to be fill with car spilling toxic gasses and distroying air quality.

What we must understand is the road infrastructure in st thomas was poor , there was no road at all.. plus it's not only the road thats been fixed its also putting in improved internet system and also proper water system. Let's remember the old pipes only run on one side of the road. With fixing the road. You also fix the pipes. It's an overall good thing for St thomas.

When Portia sign the deal to build the highway it was for a four lane highway from Harbour view to Portland . Years from now, we are still going to need a highway . Nothing encourages development more than a highway. Anju should never change what portia sign off on.

You're wrong with that. Pnp proposed a 20 miles toll road in the hills that would never be of any benefit to the people. Plus portland was never apart of the plan

Klarity flex you got it wrong? The previous government plan was to build a highway from Harbour view to Morant Bay and a road improvement from Morant Bay to Port Antonio 😊 The toll road that the previous government is talking about was going to start in Bull Bay to Morant Bay, this toll road alignment was going through the mountain range of the blue mountains.

Karlifkex, you're looking ar short term gain. Sooner than later, they will be massive traffic jams . Then, to build a highway, we will double what it costs now . We need to build things for the future instead of quick fix

Things change .to say highway was going to kill business is crazy.. most of the people who travel this route live in the area, so they're not going to take highway. People who would take the highway would be going to Portland . The problem with faith's Penn and other communities, the planning was bad. They should have been exit and entrance from the highways to those communities. They did the same thing with Porous. No exit or entrance off the new highway to places like clarendon Park. In North America, every town has an exit/ entrance off the highway

The road improvements from Morant Bay to Port Antonio doesn't have anything to do with the prime minister? 😊 The Andrew Holiness Administration got everything on a sliver platter 😊 what he should have done is let the highway continues through the mountain range to Morant Bay. And sign another contract with CHEC to improve the road on the coast line in albino, yallas, pond side, greenwall Roach Gully etc and other secondary roads in St.Thomas😊

What is the difference between the highway and the road improvement?
@holnessshanette7901
@holnessshanette7901 24 дня назад
How many highways do you drive on and see it in deplorable conditions? Highways are always maintained. How long will these rds be maintained? After a certain time the Rd will be back to square one and not maintained. The only way I would support the Rd improvement is unless it is going to be maintained. Govt doesn't have money to maintain Rd caz too much pilfering and even if they try to do so, too much skulduggery so it is not done properly.

Highways tend to kill alot of small communities for the benifit of big cities,an highway is not needed wider roads and more lanes are better will make local community strive.

@abrahamthomas5906 25 дней назад
We need the highway n the road improvement also, which mean you can drive n exit to where you want to go. Yallahs square is a bottle neck just like Annotto Bay why punish people to drive through those town. The North Coast have solid road surface, while St Thomas side roads are on water table, example Phamfret, Leith Hall, Port Morant, Bowden, Hordley Crossing are all water table, do you plan to repair these roads every year ? The JLP take away the only cricket field in St Thomas to build a Town Center, where do you play cricket now in St Thomas ? Think about the future not just the hype.
@waynemcfarlane1233
@waynemcfarlane1233 25 дней назад
The Urban Centre will be good for the parish but I don't think it will be a game changer? St Thomas needs an industrial complex
@abrahamthomas5906
@abrahamthomas5906 24 дня назад
Agree with the industrial complex or turn good year into a massive refrigeration warehouse, where farmers in St Mary, Portland n St Thomas could carry food n sell for export. We have the best East Indian mangoes in Jamaica look at the amount of homes that would make a money. We should have bought the land behind good year n save the oval for cricket n cultural events. Every parish need that space like Folly Oval in Port Antonio, but the politicians don’t have town hall meetings n consult with the people. If you have an appointment in Kgn or going airport n there is an accident in Phamfret Yallahs where do you turn off the road?
