Priming and Pregerminating grass seed?Best Way to Get Seed Started. 

I wasnt going to pre germinate my Monaco next year because a storm got me this year planting a lesser Bermuda, right when the seeds were ready, a surprise storm came right after. Now I can prime, let them dry out and wait if I need to, best of both worlds, just perfect Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love this idea. I am going to open my pool and through a 50lb bag of seed in it and let it soak and then spread it on my front dirt . At least I will have some grass this year at this rate lol. Great video man.

I pre-germinated both KBG and PRG for the first time. This Spring has been so cold and lots of rain. It's been a week and I still don't see germination fron neither of KBG nor PRG 😵‍💫 I hoped that I d see germination sooner after the pre-germination.. Spring seeding is tough..!

Not sure I ever seen that mushroom compost in any of the big box stores around my way. I have 2 little TTTF spring renos growing now. Germination took about 9-10 days. Coming in well but this summer will change that. 😥. I figure why not get something growing in the soil which should make the fall overseed that much nicer. Like that priming idea, was going to try pregerminating but did not want to use expensive seed in case I messed it up. Priming seems like a safer bet

That looks like an Orbit Voyager II sprinkler. I bought a couple and put them on spikes with an adapter too for my lawn renovation but noticed a ton of water pooling at the base that ended up saturating the ground way too much. It didn't seem to be leaking from connections, I used teflon tape, but water at the nozzle that was being broken by the little screw you turn down had it running down the body. I could put my hand on the body and water was going over my hand. I had the screw turned down a reasonable amount to break the stream but not cranked down by any means. At one point, I lifted the spike out of the ground and a small stream was coming off the spike. Have you noticed this with your sprinkler? Probably not a big deal in an established yard but on bare dirt, it was washing seed away and drowning it out. Plus it was in a shaded area so it never really dried. I ended up swapping to an oscillating sprinkler.

Interesting, I may try this method in the fall. For priming KBG seeds, would you soak the seeds longer than 3 days? For the two batches of pregerminating KBG this spring, I soaked them for 7 days. Really did not notice any germination (maybe I need glasses HA!), but went with it. Side note, both areas are doing good considering the late winter we had here in CT. The first seeding I did in late April, the grass started to show after 14 days. The second area I did just over 2 weeks ago, the grass began to show 7 days later. Warmer temps & sun definetely helped.

good vid. i just overseeded 3 weeks ago, seems there are some bare spots, either from not enough seed or birds. i am soaking/pregerminating some seed to fill in those spots soon. so you say use soil, not peat moss to cover?

So you spread out the compost first then add seed? Should I use a roller to push seed down a little?

I am going crazy right now, doing this process trying to pre-germinate my seed, did half prime, and put it on the lawn and left half in the bag to germinate the whole way to see which would go quicker.. on day 7 and still no germination both ways! Its driving me nuts haha. I hope I didnt drown my seed. Using Black Beauty Ultra. Which is mostly tall fescue.

I soaked a PRG/KBG mix for 4 days. I never saw any germination but decided to spread the seed down anyway and top dress with soil. It's been two days and still no life visible. I'm worried I soaked the PRG too long?

But did you use any nitrogous? Interesting stuff man! Always great explanations.

Don’t put mushroom compost near you foundation the microbes in the soil will damage it I have a friend whose house was built on an old mushroom farm and years later he had to replace the foundation in the rear of the house

I must have been doing something wrong because my seeds are not sprouting after 2 weeks with 4 days of priming. My bro who planted traditionally had results in same timeframe.
