Prehistoric man lived in groups. Dangerous and lonely to live alone. Not to mention, more hands can work together to get shelters built, hunting & gathering done more efficiently, etc. And having a mate to keep you warm at night sure made life more pleasant!😉

He has soaked his clothing through and through with grease. This produces a look less attractive to modern senses but extremely practical for outdoor living year-round. Bear grease was used on the American frontier (portrayed accurately for the first time in a movie to my knowledge in "The Revenant"), lanolin in later eras. Paleolithic Europeans are likely to have employed the practice. In the maritime climate leather so treated can resist the rain. Only Plains Indians could afford flawless white buckskins--- those only brought out for ceremonially. The smoked brown hides provided some protection from the rain--- if only for the leather and not the wearer. Likely Paleolithic Europeans would have employed smoked hides too--- but not for outerwear in inclement weather. Used to be nothing could beat greased leather over nice wool sweaters and long johns. Then synthetic fleece topped by gortex came along. Greased leather right against the skin is hard to take.

I have that feeling too sometimes. When I go hunting I realize how harsh this type of life is. You're constantly a little bit cold and wet, never really comfortable. Always hungry, never sure when you will get your next kill. It's incredibly rewarding and all the buzz of modern life just vanishes as your only task is to find food and shelter as you move around. You're in complete sync with nature. But it's also a hard life.

Something I have often pondered is the level of language extant in those times, and how much of it was common to all (or most) bands. Their technology was surprisingly sophisticated, so it is difficult to believe that their language was any less so. Do you have any thoughts, or even good data, on this subject Will? 🙂

From Scotland, If we ever are forced back to hunter gatherer which if the Sun activity is anything to go by we are heading right back in time, don't trust anyone, they are likely to kill you and take all you have, I would only ever trust strangers if they were like me but even then I would not totally relax. Making tools and shelter and all the rest would not have a time schedule like work, you won't have work but endless free time, making spears etc would be done as you go through your day. Hunting is something you could do but trapping may be more productive including fishing. Finally it would put an swift end to all these LGBT and feminine men, feminists would also have to eat humble pie or starve! Great video and subbed.
