Indeed, it was the Scottish actor ‘Brian Cox’. Who oddly enough tweeted last Sunday; ‘Just enjoyed a nice breakfast in Primrose Hill and I swore I spotted the famous RU-vidr Hannah Ricketts!’

I was born in Gloucester Avenue in 1943 and it was rather different back then. Primrose Hill itself was my 'playground'. Not many people know this but the top of the hill housed an anti-aircraft gun and brick air raid shelters during World War 2 which afforded small boys great entertainment. Much football was played on the areas outside the playground, which we called The Swings. I recall bunking into London Zoo through the fence down by the canal and during school holidays I used to go to see Guy the gorilla. As I grew up my local was The Chalk Farm Tavern and I held my wedding reception there more years ago than I care to remember. I wish I could afford to live there now.

Is Guy the Gorilla an exhibit in the natural history Museum now? I think I saw him and spent time looking at him, my daughter was so interested in learning about his life etc. maybe in wrong.

@@patriciasanderson2171 :Hi, thanks for your interest. You are correct, there is an exhibit of Guy the Gorilla at the Natural History Museum. Your daughter might be interested to know that Guy was born in1946 and arrived at London Zoo on 5th November, 1947 (hence his name). He was captured in the French Cameroons and was sent in exchange for a tiger from Calcutta Zoo. He was 5'4" tall and weighed about 520 lbs. Back in the day when I used to go there the monkeys and apes were housed in a row of cages in a building known as the Monkey House (awful by today's standards). There was a barrier to prevent visitors from getting too close but a walkway enabled the keepers to go to each cage to feed the 'inmates'. There was a door at one end and I recall that one day I was standing by the door talking to the keeper when a woman asked if she could feed Guy some biscuits. He said to give the biscuits to him to do so but the woman walked past him and entered the walkway. Guy went berserk and attacked her - fortunately the massive bars and the plate glass window prevented this but I can tell you it was terrifying. Guy died in 1978 from a heart attack during an operation on his infected teeth which was caused by visitors feeding him sweets.

I do recommend London Zoo, it opened in 1828 and is the world’s oldest scientific zoo. It houses a collection of almost 15,000 individuals and is absolutely enormous considering it being in London. It stretches either side of regents canal. Most importantly with it being a conservation zoo it needs your participation to conserve animals not only in this country but all over the world. So please do make a visit, you will be amazed!

I hate having to correct you, Hannah, but Lemonia is not Italian but Greek Cypriot, it's a great restaurant. Two minutes from Regents Park Road is Eton College Road, across the railway bridge, and there are great flats there which would certainly be within your budget. Make your dream come true!

Lemonia used to be my local pub - I was born and raised in Gloucester Avenue just around the corner. It was called the Chalk Farm Tavern (known as The Chalk) and was where I held my wedding reception many years ago. It was later turned into a theme-type establishment called The Lotus which was based on the well-known racing cars. I wish I could afford to live there now!

15:40 Your humor is the best, Hannah. I always get a good chuckle at your little asides. Also, was thinking perhaps why the residences seemed empty - might be that people are buying up these homes as "investments," but not living there. Many places are being bought as such in NYC and close to where I live in San Francisco. PPS. Hopefully more chain stores won't move into the area. When I was in NYC a month ago, the line for Starbucks was wrapped around the block when there were handfuls of cute and charming coffeeshops to get actually good coffee and pastries from.
