Not only is Primus the most original band, each of their albums has its own sound, Les obviously sold his soul to the devil to be the worlds best bassist.

The whole band is phenomenal, but Ler LaLonde does not get enough credit. He's an amazing guitarist and I always love Tim Alexanders drumming.

Yeah, I used to have Zappa in the 'Weird to Be Weird' category til I listened to more of it. Some of his non-sequitors are better chosen or more clever, but you can always count on things not going an expected direction.

I too loved the bass. I have more trouble hearing his lyrics, but I think his lyrics would definitely be worth hearing.

Les described them perfectly: Jay has this slick bunny hop type of bounce to his playing, where as Herb's playing is reminiscent of a giant gorilla stomping through the forest.

Check out Tim Alexander in his drum solo on this song, the original primus drumer, I think that his is one of the greatest drummers out there.

Love all the amazingly different musical components in this track, especially the rhythmic interlocking of the bass-and-drums. And while the frenetic studio vocal presence of Tom Waits is slightly missed, this track still slays regardless! And Ed, good catch on that harmonica microphone set-up. Plus, Doug, totally concur with your point 'bout those, perhaps, subtle O-Boingo's "Dead Man's Party" comparisons...

Sorry guys, Les don't mix anything with no Flea stuff... he came pretty much at the same time, even earlier and, he's also three times as good a bassist... he's in another level, although flea is great too ina rock context, Les is a real pro bassman, a truly pro in any musical context, and he stands strong against any Victor wooten, marcus miller etc... he's that good.

You guys should have reacted to "Tommy the cat" live at the Dennis Miller show because of it being a much better performance, Les had a much thicker bass sound and was playing his fretless.

One watches Primus for the music.... You have to get past the weirdness of the themes and vocals, but that's part of their charm! You can't take them seriously.... except for their music!

Nice reaction video. Keep up the good work !!! In keeping with the three piece band theme, I think you should check out and react to Asterism. They hail from Japan and have a full album which was allegedly produced by bootsy collins and buckethead. They rock, are called a metal band, but have more chops than a butcher shop. I'd pick the song Overdrive from one of the newer studio versions first.

Les Claypool most well-known basses are his Carl Thompson basses. He's recently started working with a friend of his and designing his own, Pachyderm Basses. That's what this one is.

Saw Primus live in 04 and their second set was playing Seas of Cheese cover to cover. Unbelievable live performance. I could never wrap my brain around how Les could make all those sounds come out of his bass when it just looks like fingers flailing around everywhere lol

Here's an interesting fact for you. Les Claypool was asked by Kirk Hammett to audition for Metallica after Cliff Burton died in the bus accident. You should listen to some of the stuff off of the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Green Naugahyde albums and going back even more with Frizzle Fry.

Nice job noticing his bass, he currently uses a custom line of basses he and a friend from high-school put together called Pachyderm. Previously he used few custom commissioned basses from a Luthier named Carl Thompson, which are ugly, yet incredible quality.
