One of the top 3 Prince performances of all time . The house was on fire. Most don’t even notice the Pan African flag in the background. The man was a revolutionary warrior. This songs meaning is deep. Keep the children free.

@@Cinnamonrollseveryday actually a hairdresser fried his hair during the filming of Purple Rain so he had to cut it off. In some of the scenes in Purple Rain he had to wear a wig.

there were rumors in early '85 that Prince was retiring from public life after the PR tour (he was actually working on releasing ATWIAD) -- then after awards season & We Are The World (mid '85), you didn't see Prince anywhere, & there were stories of him having gotten a crewcut dyed blonde -- (he was actually filiming UTCM). So in those pre-internet days, this was essentially the first glimpse of Prince since the Raspberry Beret video where he had the Beatles 'do -- so yes this new hair was quite a shock

@@Tarantulisimo yes I’m aware of that (PR was release July ‘84. America video was in late ‘85) however you forget that this was before the Internet. We didn’t get to see celebrities as often as we do now.

People who have been to a prince concert can tell you.. That was awesome, but he does that and even better out there when he performs.. All the prince concerts I ever went to (Purple rain, Love sexy, Sign of the times) were epic performances.. I hope reactors focus more on the performances of prince because all of it is GOLD

Oh Hell 2 the Yeah!!! Prince was and still is a triple threat !!!! When u go to a Prince concert....U gon get what you came 4......and more and I feel what you going through, I still to this day feel that same energy and excitement, whenever I watch his performances....and because he's giving you so much of everything, you find yourself giving back that same energy......and it is so cool, so hot and so good...it is such an experience that you want everybody that u know to be there 2 experience it also...indeed, it's very much like having " The Holy Ghost "......Prince is the G.O.A.T.....I don't know if we will ever see another " Prince Rogers Nelson " in this lifetime....oh but what a blessing 2 have had him 4 the time that we did , because he did the damn thing. To me, this riff on "America" is like taking Jimi Hendrix's Woodstock performance of the same song and FONKIN' it up with a dash of James Brown+Maceo Parker+Fred Wesley & The JBs! Also love the Red, Black, & Green Flag hanging behind them. Prince KNEW what time it was! And Bruhman KILLED that drum solo! R.I.Power!

Note him sticking up his fingers in the air to show to the band how many breaks they must play? According to Wendy Melvoin (the girl guitarist here) that was the most difficult thing about playing live shows with Prince, because you ALWAYS needed to pay attention, you simply couldn't go with the flow.

That purple guitar he just threw down is a custom-made number by New York City luthier Roger Sadowsky who has made guitars for some very well known artists. Those guitars are one of a kind and very expensive, so not really a guitar you should throw down. Prince owned six Sadowsky guitars,four of which aped the look of the famous "Mad Cat" guitar he was known for playing and which can be seen in the music videos for "1999" and "Let's go crazy." Prince sure needed them because as this clip shows, he was ROUGH on them.

And this new gen thinks they got good performances at a concert. We were privy to see Prince in his prime. He usually followed a 3 hour concert by showing up at a local club and performing until 3-5am. He did this for years.
