@jaffer raza First of all Prince Eugene was not in charge of this campaign, the siege of Buda might have been a Phyrric victory but at The Battle of Petrovaradin he crushed the Ottomans up to 100, 000 lost their lives. He did this with about 80,000 troops against the 160,000 Ottoman forces. So you trying to undermine Prince Eugene’s battlefield accomplishment is just a futile endeavor to salvage your wounded pride because you’re obviously an Ottoman fan boy. Whether you like it or not the facts are the facts so just stop being so salty about it and recognize the tremendous ability of Prince Eugene. Can’t wait to hear your next excuse.

@jaffer raza i am quite a fan of Ottoman military history but i think that you're really undermining the accomplishments of Eugene. I would put him in a top 10 European generals of all time, he fought and won every time against the Ottomans, he defeated Marshal Catinat, an very good Marshal of the Sun King, he fought very well against de Vendome, another great Marshal of the Sun King, he then formed one of the greatest partnerships in military history with the Duke of Marlborough (a better commander than Eugene in my opinion), the only bad mark of his career was the defeat at the hands of Claude Louis Hector de Villars, another Marshal of the Sun King (one of the greatest commanders in French history, extremely underrated). Eugene showed great ability in tactics but think that he was a real genius strategically and operationally, so his campaigns are his real masterpieces, more than his battles.

Turenne is the most underrated commander in history. Napoleon considered him as the greatest commander in Modern history

Spaniards also helped to defend Vienna at the first Ottoman siege in 1529. Luis de Ávalos maistre de Campo, Juan de Salinas, Jaime García de Guzmán, Jorge Manrique, Cristóbal de Aranda, Melchior de Villarnell and Jan de Agnilera. They commanded a group of 700 to 800 Spanish soldiers of which only about 250 survived. They were sent as support by María de Hungría (nacida como María de Habsburgo o bien María de Austria).

That story deserves a trip to Hungary just to see that memorial. No hay tierra que no haya conocido nuestra sangre en defensa de la fe.

Fueron los Borbones los que perdieron la hegemonía territorial en Europa (más por culpa de las ambiciones de Luis XIV, que por Felipe V), no obstante el Rey Felipe logró recuperar el respeto del ejército español, reconquistando territorios como Sicilia, Napoles (para una rama menor de la familia) y me parece que Menorca también.

It was unfortunate for the Ottomans since they basically ran out of god-tier Köprülü Grand Viziers. If there was a great Köprülü to oppose Eugene, This war would have turned out less disasterous and much more bloody. This period is one of Ottoman Commanders and their incompetence. It is a century after Mezo-Keresztes and Kanije, but a century before Acre and almost 2 centuries before Plevne. The good Köprülüs were dead, and until Murad IV no Sultan could actually "rule" the country same way Suleiman or Mehmed or Selim did. This is just the "Era of Ottoman Retards". There were still Köprülüs and great commanders, but there were no more Gods on the battlefield, much like the "Century of Humiliation" in China.

Yet eurocentrists prefer to focus on ultimately defeated personalities like Vlad the Impaler and dont even know about Eugene Savoy 😅

@Le Austrian painter The Ottomans crushed their vassal Habsurgs in Hungary 3 times - in the Long Turkish War ,1663-1664 war and in the Ottoman-German war of 1735-1739, a total of 6 times. Austria, on the other hand, was able to win only 2 victories against the Ottomans.LOOOL

The european clothes and armor of the Hungarian light cavalry in the vanguard might fooled the Tatars into beliving that they are up against european style warfare, and the retreat is genuine.

Odd. I just looked up the battle of Slankamen, and Eugen was not the commander in it. It was Ludwig Wilhelm, Margrave of Baden-Baden. That being said, it seems he was also a well-regarded commander and a contemporary of Eugen.

History channels never mention the acts commited by the generals and countries they make videos on. I guess not to break the aura of greatness they construct around these individuals and nations, but in truth none of them were great men.

Massacres were common throughout history, by all sides, life was held cheap.

He managed to defeat only small armies with 4-5 times more soldiers. Only once he faced equal armies and more than 50,000 armies, he nearly died and he fled the battle LOOL.
