The royal family’s surname is Mountbatten-Windsor, the surname Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip assumed upon their marriage. The monarch does not go by a surname. I believe it all has to do with the line of succession, of which Harry is fifth, and his children are six and seventh respectively. William’s family’s surname is Wales, Harry’s family’s surname is Sussex, knowingly that the family Mountbatten-Windsor is available to them.
