Afia please don't speak on behalf of CANADA. YOU ARE MISINFORMATION. Unless you and Trudea don't want King Charles because of your racist friends Megaliar. Don't step Canada or speak on our behalf. We love all Royals
I live in Canada. Don't base assertions on Quebec. Nobody is talking about leaving the Commonwealth or becoming a republic. And in Quebec it was a small group of members of Parliament in the Quebec legislature that wouldn't swear allegiance to the king. No headlines here, no discussions, nothing. Afua is misinformed. Get your facts right or shut up.
That is simply not true. Maybe really old white people want to remain but the rest of us don't. Go read several newspapers who have said as much. Canada should leave the Commonwealth.
Saturday Night Live is NOT just another talk show, Chris Rock is NOT just another comedian and South Park is NOT just a TV cartoon. All these shows are rooted in American Culture
@@pwood6532 what they are saying it that SNL is much more significant than your average chat show. SNL has been a fixture in the zeitgeist of American culture since the 1970’s and you remember the skits 30 years later. Chris Rock is not just another comedian. Again he is considered somewhat ground breaking and culturally relevant. And South Park has been around for a long time and is brilliant and speaks to people about current issues in a way a chat show could not.
Afua needs to watch her language. ☹️ The Mountbatten Windsors do find any humour aimed at them a huge no no. Come on, this is not the look they wanted.😅
Canadian here-- the idea that Canadians are questioning keeping the King as head of state or leaving the Commonwealth is news to me. Second, I live in Quebec. There is a vocal group of Quebequois (a minority) who don't want to be part of Canada, let alone the Commonwealth. As for Quebec's anti-Monarchy ideals, this goes well back to the triumph of England's troops over France's at the Battle of the Plains of Abraham at Quebec City in 1759, and more recently to conscription in WW1 and 2. French Quebecois didn't want to fight for nor swear oaths to the monarch of England. Bottom line-- there is absolutely no majority (or any serious discourse really) about wanting to ditch the King and Commonwealth sentiment that I've heard. Perhaps that's because we have a front row seat to the disasterous republic to our south.
Well done, Matt. Thank you for correcting Afia’s ignorant comments on the commonwealth. He is the only reason i could stand this session, truly, because he does appropriate research and provides factual statements.
Someone should tell Afua Hagan that Canada will likely never give up its ties to the monarchy. We would have to have a consensus from all the provinces and territories and that is extremely unlikely. Our ties to the monarchy are also written very tightly into our constitution. If you ask Canadian academics who study our country's laws and politics, they could sort this out quite easily. Saying that Canada is reconsidering its affiliation with the monarchy is pretty much an outright lie.
Not to mention that the British North America Act still applies to a huge area of northern Quebec, and the native peoples' could choose to stay with the monarchy.
Afua is a Sussex supporter. She is often on panels on UK TV. She makes lots of accusations against the RF usually unsupported. She doesn't like the UK Monarchy. She makes her living been disdainful of them. She was very mild on this show, she is often rude and shouty. No she doesn't know what she is talking about.😊🇬🇧
I live in Australia and the last I heard about republic risen was only 3% Afia has misinformation regarding Australia,as most people want to remain in the commonwealth, there has been NO polling or any info showing interest in republic, so where is this info co img from???
Apparently the same place that led commenters like Afia (and even the more moderate Brit royal commentators, tbh) to spend the last few years declaring Harry&Meghan’s US popularity was through the roof and the actual working royals couldn’t compare. As we now know, since the US has been regularly polled on specific royal favorability ratings, nothing could be further from the truth. And yet, they conveniently neglect to acknowledge peddling this falsehood for years.
@@sandiapillay9691 no journalist but she is anti royal and these shows always include someone like her to make it more edgy. We don’t appreciate her bias lies, and anti royal sentiments. Why do these people hate the monarch they do much good. It is political, they want to break down the British society, it makes me so mad.
Afua only sees colour! She'll support any person of colour no matter what they've done or how many lies they've told. She's making money from race baiting! 😏
🇨🇦 here! Please do not get what Quebec wants/likes about the Commonwealth mixed in with the rest of Canada. There is a huge difference as Quebec has opening said, a few times, they want to break away from Canada itself!! Afua, if you are part of polling in Canada, you should know more about the 'inside' of Canada as well.
Happy to see Matt call out the false narrative Afia was pushing regarding the Commonwealth and the role of the monarch. Also interesting that despite her attempts to tie the protests to colonization, no one on the panel felt the necessity to mention that a majority of the protesters were protesting Uganda’s stance on gay rights.
If King Charles hasn't earned respect for his lifetime of environmental protection, sustenance agriculture n animal husbandry, these hosts are woefully uneducated...
King Charles is in a very very tough spot when you consider Princess Diana and replacing her with Camilla prince Andrew and the young children under age girls and now Harry and Meghan respect is not what he has he has a royal freak Show circus
Lol what has he actually done? He is an elitist who travels non stop and has promotes organic agriculture that only works for the uber wealthy. And acctually it is most Canadians who want the monarchy out. The Queen was respected but Charles is not
I still admit Charles is good in his green projects, but he is weak as a king. That's why I always make comments: Charles is not good leading the monarchy, he is only good taking care plants!
The Harkles are certainly the laughing stock of the world hence, as a distraction, the announcement of Lili's christening and as a princess by a tabloid magazine.
I’m from Quebec, and the fact is that it’s only Quebec that shares those sentiments that they always wanted to not be part of the commonwealth; it’s started the Battle of the Plains of Abraham, was a pivotal battle in the Seven Years' War Battle began on 13 September 1759.. between general Wolf and Montcalm.. Canada still is a much of a country of the commonwealth..
I am offended by the book in background from omit scabies. Show is about royals. All content and promo features should be about royals not people that left being a working royal.
I like Matt. He is a gentleman, calm and collected. A good listener waiting for his chance to make his contribution. But this lady in yellow is a bit too much
A drug addict and a yacht woman has a king kowtowing to them. What a joke! IMO only. The 2 "things" got all the titles now, so the RF needs to be very careful, security wise as those "things" are diabolically trying to get to the top.
💗💕🇦🇺💗💕 the Commonwealth is so much more then a Realm 💕💗🇦🇺🇦🇺💕💗👏👍 It was so refreshing for an event to just be about the event 💗💕🇦🇺 thank goodness the Hasbeens weren’t there to take away from it.
Commonwealth currently is not related to colonialism. Get over it. My country was colonized by the french. We are part of the francophone countries now. It's voluntary and we are a full a democracy. Plus we find pride in this association.
I am a six generation Canadian and I can tell you there is no way that Canada is considering leaving the Commonwealth! Your commentators need to be better informed if they are going to be on this channel!
I was proactive for Australia to become a Republic as a teen. I was indignant of the very notion of inherited royalty. But, with the getting of wisdom, I am now a staunch monarchist. They provide a wonderful sense of unity, of belonging, of family. They are a constant in this tumultuous world.
Here in Australia it’s a non subject. There are far too many of us £10 poms still living in Australia. We may not live in U.K. But we still call it home. Congratulations 🎉to Edward and Sophie becoming Duke & Duchess of Edinburgh 💕💜🐨🐨🐨🦘
Afua doesn't seem to understand that when a country remove the King as head of state thet don't have to leave the Commonwealth. They see nit the same thing.
While I don't agree with a lot of what Afua Hagan says , I like that she is a polite person and doesn't shout the others down. She states her opinions in a calm manner .
I am a Canadian and i didn't do no poll . If we Canadians don't or want it then it should be up to all Canadians . Vote . I want too be part of the RF . 🇨🇦🇨🇦
how sad it is for Archie and Lilibet that they will forever have a memory that their parents forced titles on them in the most undignified way-allowing an old magazine to announce titles they had no right to give instead of the announcement coming from the Royals.
Quebec has wanted to be a separate country altogether from the rest of Canadian provinces. And the 9 provinces have stated to them go ahead and separate. See how well you get on without help from the Federal Government. This is why they have not separated yet and probably never will. Its a large province and has few population numbers and needs the support from the rest of the provinces to support them. As an expat SCot myself, I fully support the Monarchy and like the idea of them as state figureheads and enjoy them all except for Meghan and Harry. THey can gladly go live on a private island or California, just don’t let them in Canada!
Re Canada there are really 3 group=the French the English and the Indigenous peoples and the Indigenous People have a separate and special relationship with the Crown that is unique to them
Antigua already tried to become a REPUBLIC TWICE! Both referendums failed because the natives recognize the corruption of their leaders. The Bahamians are mad for their knighthoods and damehoods, they love their crown lands and royal police force. They have no desire to be a republic
Historically the Dukedom of Edinburgh is a brevet Dukedom. That is that it is always only for the lifetime of the holder and not inherited by a son. When the holder of the Dukedom dies the title reverts to the crown and because it is a brevet title it has to sit for a length of time to become extinct. Once that time has passed the title is re-created for a new holder, hence the length of time it took before the title could be re-created for the Earl of Wessex.
You have no idea how important it is to remain monarchists. I live in a country that is Republic. Corruption, crime, lack of education is frightening. My country is listed as one of the worst education in the world. My country grew a lot in the monarchy. After that it was just downhill. Just look at the countries of South America.
It’s laughable that Afia is a “Royal commentator” and knows so little about the Commonwealth and the realms. That’s just basic. Yes King Charles lll was elected as head of the Commonwealth . Even Google knows that.
Without the monarchy and the British royal family the United Kingdom becomes just like any other country. It is what makes the United Kingdom special. It’s like Niagara Falls always there one of the wonders of the world
Afua is trying to promote an anti monachist message. She doesn't actually know. No evidence of this, just a few noisy types who probably have a loud anti message on any topic you could think of.
Afua, get your facts right. Australia currently has more support for the Monarchy than a republic. Where do you get your ridiculous information? From a cereal box? Get off the program, although I do not have a high regard for the lead commentator either. Well done Matt, you've done your homework.
Afua, speaks from a biased position and quite frankly does not speak for the African Nations in the Commonwealth.....she speaks for herself and her agenda....interestingly all these critics reside abroad.....not in their countries of origin....that should be telling.
Agreed Harry and Meghan are a laughing stock around the world, I am from Australia and I absolutely Loved our queen, however there is a lot of talk about a republic, a lot of Australians see Charles as a very weak king and until he does something about Harry and Meghan he will lose many countries who once were in the commonwealth. The People are talking but Charles is not listening, Its the people who pay for the Monarchy who keep them in a luxury life, so Charles needs to listen to the people and strip Harry and Meghan
What is this Afua talking about? There is a small group of people in Quebec who are against the Monarchy, but if you look a little deeper, this group are against everything. They just want to be front and centre talking about whatever is happening at the time. She should check her facts a little closer before going online and opening his mouth. she is making up stuff talking about Canada. Daisy should shut-up and give Matt a chance to talk because in the few words he could get in, made a lot of sense and did appear to be factual.
Please don't have people on your show who don't know what they are talking about. Looks like Afua has her own agenda to get rid of the commonwealth. As a Canadian, we appreciate it and love our monarchy. Get the facts straight.
I get a headache from this hierarchy of titles!!! There is so much work to go around for all royals.... so many charities to help. More power to them!!!
Quebec is just one out of ten Provinces in Canada. Most French Canadians live in Quebec. The French have never wanted a British monarchy since 1760. The other 10 Provinces are mostly English speaking and do support the monarchy.. To use Quebec as representative of what most Canadians want is definitely misleading.
Well Quebec does even want to be part of Canada never mind the Commonwealth, nor does it want immigrants either. The more immigrants, then the greater chance that Quebec willl never win a referendum vote to leave Canada.
@@mariatortorici8663 YEs - it was close once, twice and I think three times making my point if Quebec threatens not to be part of Canada no duh of all the provinces it would not at all want to be represented by the King of England. Of course it is just a Quebec threat - that s all , Hon.
Correct …I speak Fluent French, however,I resent being told by them that they are the superior Province. Yes they are feeling their language is going down the tubes because most if the new immigrants speak or are trying to speak English. In fact there are so many languages in Canada and they have a right to maintain their culture.
As a Canadian - Afua's assessment of Quebec is laughable. She clearly has no idea about the history of our country, or Quebec. Quebec has regular referendums about seceding from Canada - and they regularly refuse to sign on to federal agreements on things like pensions, health care etc. They are very much a separate entity within Canada and somehow think they'd make a strong independent country on their own (not all Quebeckers, of course). So of course, they have a larger number of people who don't want to be part of the Commonwealth or have the UK monarch as head of state. Don't see much momentum towards leaving the Commonwealth in Canada. That said - Charles inaction on Harry and Meghan is beginning to wear people out. The gentleman from the Sun was the best part of this discussion.
