Roberto, thanks for posting this performance ! I worked with Prince here in San Jose back in 2001. I remember this first tune, 'Nuttin' Out Jones' !

+James Armstrong That's right. Originally with Charles Davis, Sonny Simmons and Prince Lasha on reeds. One of many highlights of jazz history.

I know that was grand.. I would often bump into Prince Lasha while I lived in Bay Area .. Anna's Jazz island or Yoshi's and some symposiums I was part of in Oakland and other Bay area Spots for Pop up Jazz...

It's refreshing to hear a Baritone Sax get down other than a Tenor, Alto, or Soprano. Woody Shaw plays effortlessly, with a tone equal to Lee Morgan, however his phrasing is his own.

Wonderful video with my dear dear friend Prince Lasha. Thank you so much for posting. Is there any possibility of seeing a version of the interview without the translated voice over? I want to be able to hear Prince's words in English. Thank you so much again Roberto. Peace and love to you.

Woody can play more notes in a single bar than any other trumpet players can play in 12 bars .

And more importantly, Woody tells a profound and beautiful story everytime he takes a solo.

@@williemakeit2346 Yes siree Woody was not only the baddest of the bad , he was beautiful people too .I hung out with Mr. Shaw and took some lessons from him as well .My only problem now is I cant find no cats good enough to play any of his charts .Good luck finding a pianist to cut his charts either .And please don't get me wrong although I can play most all his charts I even learned eternal triangle .BUT BIG BUTT NO MAN ON THIS EARTH COULD EVER COME CLOSE TO WOODY , period end of story ..

It's not Bari, it's a Bass Sax. Please be more careful in future.

+David Defries Nonsense. It' s a baritone, no doubt about it. Inform yourself about organology first. Wikipedia.com will do for beginners.

`It is Prince LaSha' s son! Prince La Shay Jr. . Prince's birth name was William Lawsha and it was changed or adapted early in his career. Prince Jr. lives out here in California! So does two other of Senior's sons.
