If the fight against the concubine provides the game's best use of interactive storytelling, then the portion where you as the prince go and cut down the trees is a close second to me. Traversing the lonely vastness of the hub area to get through each tree, with only Ahriman's whispers for company. Having to puzzle out a path up and across to the platform that you can climb on your own, because Elika isn't there to help you bridge a gap with a simple double jump. Ignoring the fact that the credits have already rolled on your walk to the altar and that you could very well end the game right here if only you could accept that it ends with your companion's sacrifice. The prince doesn't utter a single word during this whole sequence and yet you understand him perfectly.

Honestly it's one of my favorite interactive storytelling tropes, when you're left to do something you know you shouldn't because the character you're playing would. Same deal with much of Shadow of the Colossus, moments in Spec Ops: The Line, and the end of The Last of Us (though many insist on misunderstanding that one). It's just great storytelling, where the mere act of acting it out lends emotional weight and understanding to the choices made by the protagonist. Good stuff.

As an Iranian, I have to say that this game feels and looks more Persian than previous games, despite all of them using the same or related sources for their stories. The Sands of Time and The Two Thrones look too Arabic, and from memory, The Warrior Within's aesthetics is like a combination of Middle Eastern/Indian and European architecture. Also, The Sands of Time trilogy mainly uses an Iranian epic poem called "Shahname" as inspiration, which itself is inspired by Zoroastrian mythology. In "Shahname" Dahaka is called "snake shoulder" and to describe him simply, he is literally the same as Jackie Estacado from The Darkness franchise. But in Zoroastrian, he is more of a dragon and he is the son of Ahriman. Hope I could be of help.

The DLC touches on this, but non-withstanding, I have to say that I full-heartedly agree with the Prince's decision at the end of the game. And that's based on the state of the world around him. 1. When Ahriman was first locked away, the god of light - Ormazd - left the Ahura civilisation behind to guard, to nurture, and to preserve the tree that Ahriman was imprisoned within - and gave the Ahura magical powers to help them accomplish this. The temple was built around the tree, renovated, and strengthened over generations into something that's - in the Prince's words - "secure", even in the crumbling state we find it in. A city, a fortress, and a palace were all built around the temple; more people came, and the Ahura blossomed into a powerful civilisation that in its golden age would seem like one that could contain Ahriman forever. 2. When Elika re-imprisons Ahriman at the end of the game, there is no sign of Ormazd, no persisting civilisation of survivors that knows the risk that Ahriman poses, and especially none left with magical powers. There's no one left but 1 shifty guy with a sword and a stolen gauntlet. The temple is in ruins after a thousand years, (and thunderously collapses in the final cutscene.) The Prince cannot rebuild the temple, the fortress, the vale, the city, and the royal palace all by himself - and go out looking for any other Ahura that he doesn't even know might or might not still be out there. And Ahriman's voice can be heard clearly, whereas at the beginning of the game there was silence. The Ahura protected the tree and guarded Ahriman for 1,000 years after Ormazd first imprisoned him, because they had each other, knew the risk, and had Ormazd's incredible powers. How long would the temple have been able to contain Ahriman this time? 1,000 years? 100 years? 10 years? I agree with the Prince on this one. That's the thing with an immortal god. He can't be trapped forever, and he can't be killed. Elika's self-sacrifice only delays the inevitable, and who knows for how long? But what if there's another way, and Elika and her powers are the best chance of finding it? I'm not saying that the Prince did not have a selfish motive for resurrecting her *again* at the end. But whatever his reason, I agree with his decision. It reminds me of the dilemma presented in the Legacy of Kain series, when looking back on Kain's ultimatum of either sacrificing himself to save the world, or living as the cause of the world's suffering: What if there's another way?

2. Wasn't Ahriman's voice heard by the Prince, because Ahriman sensed his weakness, that he could exploit? I believe the King heard the same whispers before the begining of the game, before Ahriman was first freed, because why else would he think letting him go would bring Elika back? Besides that I do agree with you.

What a lot of people don't understand is the fact that this game wanted to get you through the story of these characters being in love yet going their own ways. Too bad many people have hated the gameplay and it will remain as an underrated game forever.

The outcome of the Prince's decision clear, but the "why" is presented very ambiguously, so I'm fascinated by how differently Prince of Persia 2008's ending can be read. There is no dialogue or voiceover following Elika's death at the end of the main game, it's just the Prince doing actions, and players get to interpret it any way they want. In that sense, I don't think the "Stagnation/Prince is a Selfish Person" interpretation is wrong per se, but to ignore the environmental storytelling? Narrative > Plot. After all, you literally get to crawl all over the Ahura's lands, and following in the footsteps of the inspiration for both Ubisoft Prince series Ico, the entire area, despite maintaining a sense of majesty and scope, has fallen into ruin. Only by grace of the 'Prince's' and Elika's nigh inhuman agility are they even able to traverse from one area to the next, as time has torn down even basic footholds and, y'know, the earth on which to stand. The only place where there is even real solid ground is the area immediately surrounding Ahriman's prison, which though it is intact, is completely barren - like the demonic entity used only enough energy in the area to keep the Ahura's attention while he exerted his destructive influence on the areas just beyond the sight of the walls surrounding the prison, where the Ahura's guard was down. If Ahriman is more powerful and inevitable than gravity... And of course, several of the General's explicit narratives all point to the Decline & Fall of civilization and those filling its ranks, and how even the most noble intentions and sacrifices in the now feed directly into Ahriman's strategy, which is that he is immortal and the world in which Ormazd imprisoned him is cut from crumbling stone and guarded by peoples whose will and numbers dwindle over time. Don't need to be Sherlock Holmes to understand that history and time are on Ahriman's side. Given all that, once the Prince watches Elika literally repeat the mistakes of the Warrior (only even worse, as the Warrior at least thought he was protecting something with roots, that was still alive - his people. Only, we know now that they were eventually dissolved), I fully agree with his actions of reclaiming Elika. The Ahura are gone now, and the prison & the tree are lightning rods just begging someone, anyone, to knock on them accidentally and unravel the whole affair. And that's even if the prison, which is being overtaken by the elements and is in a general state of disrepair, doesn't free him earlier. Not to say that his personal feelings aren't tied into it, but both can be true at the same time. Better to use her magic powers, which have been shown to be effective against Ahriman. Putting him back into the same prison which has already failed is no different than using a band-aid to patch up a bullet wound. *Also bears mentioning that the Prince's solution to save Elika differs from the 4 Generals. Each of them made an explicit deal with Ahriman, their souls in exchange for Ahriman's help. The Prince's deal arguably circumvents Ahriman entirely, and the price/reward is reversed. Instead of asking the world for a soul, he gives the world as price for a soul. An equivalent exchange, if you will. Worth asking also if the bright white/blue magic we see Elika infused with/wield is associated with Ahriman or Ormazd, what that says. The bright motes of light are referred to as seeds, so to plant a seed of light in Elika, a bright young woman who can freely move about and bask in the sun vs. letting a seed flower in a stone cage surrounded by darkness? Seems like one of these is more in keeping with godly intent but hey - I'm just on top of this flooded house's roof, looking at all these narrative rowboats the game keeps sending me

Excellent take. I found this game as a literature dude was ignoring things to force his interpretation. Yours is more in-line with with the general take and also what the devs intended having gone through the dev interviews on this game.

Your reply here is exactly how i feel about it. Ahriman even taunts the Thief about Elikas death. Its selfish to a degree, but its also the best action he could have done. Like you said it best, time and history is on Ahrimans side and Elika was the last Ahura with the power to fight him. With her gone its only a matter of time until he will devour Persia like he had done before. "Games As Literature" also makes the mistake saying Elikas powers come from Ahrimans resurrection, when in the game she says its Ohrmaz abilitys she gained through the Temple. Yes she got them after being resurrected, but the powers arent Ahrimans. She even states that Ahrimans and Ohrmaz abilitys are very different and that Ahrimans Servants cant use her Powers and she cant use theirs. For me it was a no brainer to cut down the trees to save Elika, i would have done the same. I would rather take the chance die fighting, than let Elika just rot and be forgotten until Ahriman wins by default. Also even under Ahrimans rule there was human society and from the sound of it, his reach was not even global. So its not like his awakening instantly kills all people on earth or so. He seems to need a lot of corrupted humans for even controlling the Ahuras Kingdom. So i guess his awakening is more like the Chaos emerging in Warhammer, than an direct apocalypse. So fighting is the better option, and even if they themselves are to weak, Elika would still be the better option to find the remaining Ahuras, or teach and train others to withstand Ahrimans army.

​@@bellonasservant4496 I agree that the video tries too hard to fit the narrative onto the game. I was like "what?" when he said Elika's power came from Ahrimans because that totally was not how I remember it. "Stagnation" to me sounds like his inability to see outside of the "character development" lens. Basically his tenet is that if a character doesn't develop/change, that's bad story. But story can be told in different ways. And in Prince of Persia 2008, we see "development" being replaced by "unfolding", where a character doesn't change much, or at all, but we see more and more of their own being being unfolded in front of our own eyes as we learn more about their history and philosophy. Ultimately it's not so much about the characters making choices, but the choices had to be taken. "What is a grain of sand in a storm" is such a poetic way to sum this up. They are under this enormous force of fate and every choice that they have to make only reinforces this fate. This is much akin to Greek tragedy, in which characters are so often like cogs and wheels (with will) in a giant machination of life. Greek tragedy unfolds almost in a mechanical way. And if we take the stance of "Games As Literature" here, then Greek tragedies are pretty stagnate too. For me, the striking moment is when I only have four trees left to cut. As the character, I do not have a choice. But as a gamer, I can just quit the game and let the trees stay there, and pretend the game ends there. I actually sat motionless for quite some time when I realized that. I have never felt this magnitude of gravity from a choice in game. And it wasn't even a real choice IN the game. And so when I cut down each one of the trees, it felt heavy. I was undoing hours of progress I had achieved in the game with each cut. Never has a mouse click felt so heavy to me. It was beautiful.

Also, don't forget, the visions the Prince had were sent by Ormazd; which includes the final vision before cutting down the trees (where Elika was already dead). That vision tells him that he should revive Elika, so basically it's Ormazd that tells him to revive her in the first place.

One note on the concubine. I don't think it's a simple "Lose beauty and suddenly turn evil" deal. I see it as "She had a source of power (her beauty) and lost it, so she found another one (Ormazd). Morally speaking, I don't think she turned evil. She could have just been evil from the get-go, and her new pact with the dark god simply amped that aspect of her.

Shadow of the Collosus really does feel like a direct inspiration for this game. The same kind of ending, and a very similar touch where Elika's clothing gets increasingly torn as you purify lands, ala Wander's slow transformation.

Man, I remember when this game came out. It looked so beautiful and the trailers introduced me to Sia and Sigur Ros. There were people at the time that hated this new version of PoP because it wasnt similar to the Sands of Time trilogy; the disdain was loud enough that Unisoft dropped the series altogether :c And I have to confess that I have a soft spot for Warrior Within. I was that edgy teen boy that the game pandered to :p and it was my first game that I purchased for the PSP (which was retitled to "Revelations," for whatever reason)

oh this was SUCH a good video. I'm very happy you've brought back a bit of a note about Zoroastrianism, which is something that is VERY important, imho, on how to view the story as a whole. the story is, I agree, full of dualities that ultimately end up coming back to their initial states. *however* I disagree on the idea that Elika and Prince aren't ultimately changed... and I think the reason for it is because this analysis doesn't mention the DLC. yes. there is a DLC. well, technically it's called an Epilogue, and it's a PS3 exclusive, as far as I'm aware. in it, Prince is explicitly butting heads with Elika on the fact that she selfishly, thinking only of how this would be "for the greater good and in memory of her people", sacrificed herself and didn't even tell him about how she would *have* to die for the seal to work. her plan also was flawed in that the imprisonment of Ahriman? is only delaying the inevitable, and some poor shmucks later on would have to deal with their messes. meanwhile, Elika is rightfully angry with him, but actually acts more like a Prince, leaping into action and finding a way of her own, leaving him alone by the end of Epilogue to find her own way of defeating Ahriman. that whole thing was, supposedly, to lead us to a full series that would end up with Frashokereti - an event in Zoroastrian mythology a final renovation of the universe, when evil will be destroyed, and everything else will be then in perfect unity with Ahura Mazda/Ormazd. it also works on why the Ahriman generals are so... stereotypical. they're not just supposed to be testing the morals of Elika, Prince and the relationship of the two, but also lampshading how much of an ancient stereotypes they are, figures of the past (yes, including concubines, because there were ones that unfortunately *did* have the same fates of being unable to climb higher in societal order due to disfigurement or dishonour), and I think if they *were* standing up to a newer set of generals/turned people Ahriman would pick? they would've looked so much better. but yeah, there are a lot of writing problems in that regard, especially The Hunter. I think the worst part about PoP 2008 is that it's basically a Prologue to a series, and in that regard? it works well to introduce us to the two main characters, but not allow them to progress that much *yet*, because they were supposed to grow through other games and to reflect on their adventure together as stepping stones towards better improvement. as I mentioned, we would see more of how differently Ahriman would work in Prince and Elika's time on newer set of 'generals', have a more polished combat system, maybe even two separate sets of gameplay for Elika and Prince respectively, have more development on the Zoroastrian aspect of the game, and so forth. but we will probably never see that. yet how I wish we could, especially considering how well the graphics hold up to standards nowadays. also I think Nolan North not having a voice for Prince is a detriment to the story? it felt to me like he was just doing the Nathan Drake one, instead of giving Prince character, *especially* considering that he basically had to play Prince, Desmond Miles, Nathan Drake and somehow MANY OTHER player main characters within two-three years, which oversaturated the video games sphere a bit, unfortunately :') and why I somehow imprinted on a Russian dub of all things

Pretty interesting comment. I really appreciate your detailed reply here. I feel like im the last fan of this game and hold it pretty dear, so its always nice to see people comment with effort and detail to otherwise forgotten gems. Despite me having played it the first time in 2017 or so, i constantly coming back to it every year. Its definitely in my top 3 Games that deserve a continuation. The cancellation of its sequels created one of the darkest timelines hoho.

You were slightly wrong about one thing in this video: this game did have a “sequel” on the Nintendo DS. The Prince of Persisa: The Fallen King takes place sometime after 2008 and in the same continuity but is so loosely tied to it that it might as well not be

I have a huge amount of nostalgic for this game. I've always been a huge Prince of Persia fan growing up and I remember watching the trailers for this game over and over again lamenting that I didn't have a PS3 at the time. Once I did get one it was like the 3rd game I bought for it! Side note I ADORE the sound design in this game. The music and voice acting are great but the free running audio is just sublime.

I genuinely thought it ended with Elika dying. I just turned it off after that. I had no clue resurrection was an option (and honestly, kind of like it better that way. More melancholy)

I remember when this game first came out, my brother watched a first 10-15 minutes of gameplay video from X Play, I absolutely fell in love with the dialogue, it made me wish I could play it. I'll never get over the prince's lovable lines "carpets THIS THICK!!"

Really nice analysis! I clicked on the video thinking it was about Sands of Time, but instead I learned about the 2008 game I never played. It’s quite interesting as you show how the game is about each protagonist being unwilling to change and the tragedy that results from that. Thanks for much for telling us this story worth telling!

When I played it on release, the Hunter felt "bad" even in his animation. Back then, I thought that maybe he was done somewhat early in the game's production and nobody had time to go back to him, hence why he feels unfinished in the game despite being heavily featured in the marketing.

Whoo! Always great to see prof. I think one of the things that I like about your reviews of games I've never played before is the summary. You do a great job summing the game up so even if it isn't one I know, it's still enjoyable. Heck, sometimes it's more enjoyable when it's a game I haven't played. Anyways, fun stuff!

There are a couple of observations I'd make on the gameplay side: Firstly, the game is something like 80% QTE/rhythm game. With the exception of the hub region, which is a large, open, empty space, like a more boring Hyrule Field from Ocarina of Time, the game is a series of platforms of various sizes, connected by paths, with the player expected to follow the path by pressing the unique correct button at the right moment based on visual prompts. It offers pretty good flow, but means the game is very linear within sections (each path has precisely one branch point for a small spur that offers two light seeds) and exploration/navigation consists of choosing your direction at junctions. There's nothing wrong with that, and being able to freely choose the order you unlock the four movement powers means you can at least choose (to some extent) which order you tackle the regions, but it is very obviously built around a very simple structure rather than doing anything more interesting with its design. Secondly, while the story is basically a bunch of paragraphs that you can assemble into almost any order depending on which order you do which bits of each region, with progress in one region having no effect on story in another, the same isn't true of gameplay. Each time you defeat one of the four Guardians, a new obstacle type is added to every remaining corrupted route in the game. It would have required more work (and time) put into the story, but it would not have been that hard to do something similar on the story side - rather than writing the four regional stories entirely independently, figure out moments in each story that might affect the Prince and Elika's reactions and responses in the others. Okay, you'd have to use tricks to control the combinatoric explosion (if each of the four stories has just a midpoint and a conclusion that potentially affect the other regions' stories in non-structural ways, then that would make 27 versions of each story) but that's why you pay your writers in the first place...

I overall enjoyed this video. I did not enjoy where you called the discourse of casualization petty. It's not exactly that black and white. If a game is designed from the get go to be 'easy' then that's 100% fine and there is no argument. If the game has some form of complexity and that gets removed to appeal to a broader, casual audience, then that is a problem. Again, enjoyed the video.

Oh there is a conversation to be had on the subject, absolutely. It's just that more often than not, it's stuff like this, or getting angry at the idea of easy modes, or hating on accessibility options. One of those conversations that does have an actual point, but it's usually buried underneath a metric ton of bad-faith nonsense.

I feel like the warrior arc may have been more interesting if the Prince had understood the decision, even if not empathize, as the king was taking matters into his own hands, and Elica though him evil, like she did the repurposed aqueducts.

I have been looking everywhere for a video like this, that delves into the game’s narrative intricacies. Most videos that talk about this game dismiss the storytelling and characters because they tie with the dull gameplay. Glad to see it could still be treated with some respect. Thank you.

so glad you talked about this game, i actually consider it one of my favorites of all time. playing it on a whim as a kid ended with it really severely affecting me thanks to that shocking kind of ending, to the point that i still have my original copy and replayed it about a year ago. i'm definitely biased but i feel it does the "negative ending" a lot better than games like tlos, mostly because it is such an insular story by comparison. almost fable-like. anyway thanks for spending a video discussing it, i never thought i'd see the day it got the attention it deserves!

Absolutely love this game. One of my faves of all time! The art style, the focus on movement and fights as encounters! Love the story and Aesthetic! This game gives me major TEAM ICO vibes. A lot of it reminds me of ICO and SHADOW OF THR COLOSSUS.

While I understand the perspective of inconsistency and stagnation in the plot and the character growth, I PoP 2008 comes across to me as a "beginning" of sorts. The cliffhanger heavily implied that there would be a second game (and possibly a third) where character growth would likely happen.

I absolutely plan to sometime! Pyre is my favorite of their catalogue, so I hope to get to it eventually. Both games are just a lot, on account of the volume of content you can't see all in one playthrough in Pyre and the complexity of Hades' interweaving dialogue systems.

@@GameProf Pyre's use of Character-driven story is something else and the player haa control but not in a typical RPG sense its amazing. i think Pyres music is weaker than other Supergiant games but thats not a bad thing cuz Darren Korb is a genius.

Man I remember back in college I had this friend from Iran and he loved the Sands of Time trilogy. We used to play it together. Then when this reboot came along he was so angry about it like it was a never-ending barrage of how much this game sucked compared to Sands of Time that I simply did not have the energy to give it a chance. Besides I had a dissertation to worry about.

I have always believed that good characters can carry a mediocre story, but the a good story wont hook me if the character's aren't intersting. I feel like this game was a good example, as I loved this game because I loved the main characters so much, that I couldn't wait to progress the story just to see their growth

I think it's the first time I see someone throwing so much shade to Warrior Within, and it's appropriate because PoP 2008 suffered a lot due to a curse this franchise have been carrying for a long time: The fanboys that want everything to just be like Warrior Within.

*cracks knuckles* Okay, so, before we proceed, the video on Zoroastrianism. This is the best video I found which provides an introduction to the faith whilst also having references which are helpful for further reference reading: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z30Z5cOR5BA.html Now, regarding stagnation. That ending where the princess gives her life to grant life to her kingdom, and then the prince sacrifices it all just to bring her back... somehow it reminds me of The Sands of Time. There, the prince does technically grow... only to remain the same in the end, since he shares all that happened in that game to her, and even though he has feelings for her, he isn't exactly growing further than "I can't have the girl, and I can't attack her kingdom, so I'll just shift the focus elsewhere". And that's important: technically, we know the kingdom is still going to attack other places, because it is implicitly understood. I personally like Prince of Persia, I think that the dialogue system works in its favor, and I think that the overall themes work because it is inclined towards Zoroastrianism and some elements of the sort of mysticism associated with the areas that had a significant Zoroastrianism influence. Good stuff. Keep it up.

In retrospect, this game's storyline hits close to home, as right now my country Iran (aka. Persia) is being ruled by figurative dark, evil forces of Ahriman (i.e. the islamic republic), and it is up to Iranian girls and boys (here represented by Elika and the Prince) to fight these forces and save the land from utter destruction. I only home that the ending in real life isn't as tragically ironic as in this underrated game, and instead we can hope for a truly happy one. Thank you Professor for once again brilliantly exploring the themes. I missed your videos. Best wishes from Iran, and please if you read this comment, pray for us Iranians to be freed from the evil regime ruling over us.

I always saw the ending as a Choice. It's not. The DLC makes it very clear that no, you are meant to do the profoundly stupid thing and ruin everything. But I Never Did That. In MY version of Prince of Persia, The prince never destroyed the trees. Hypothetically, I could go boot up the game, load my old save file, and the prince will return to the body of Elika, stand there, and, he can wander the sands, he can mourn... and he can continue to Not release the apocalypse, no matter how much he may wish to. Because that would be Stupid. But nah, canon says, he fucked up everything.

My favorite in the series for all the reasons you mentioned. I di have to comment about its ending, like it's a game, you don't have to do that, not like there is a next chapter (no there isn't) in the story, you can just close the game, and the lack of music and no gameplay aside from just running all tell you not to do any of that, it's player's choice to do that. And that is, you know, should tell things. And not like there would be anything happening from cutting the trees that we haven't seen, it's literally how the game started.

Thanks another really interesting video. I'm not sure if you take suggestions from the audience, but a game I would appreciate your thoughts on is Call of Juarez: gunslinger. It is far from critically acclaimed, however it utilizes the unreliable narrator so effectively. Set in the old west, the game revolves around the protagonist telling his life story in a saloon, and the player plays through his narration. As the game progresses and the patrons keep buying him drinks the narrator becomes more and more intoxicated and the story becomes more and more embellished and exaggerated. As plot holes start to appear and the story becomes more outlandish the patrons supplying drinks to the narrator begin to question how truthful these stories actually are or whether they're just tales designed to get free whisky in a bar. The gameplay is far from cutting edge, but the way the story is told is completely unique in and I think would be an excellent game for analysis.

I just finished this game for the first time and I still can't understand the love for this game from a gameplay perspective with it's excessive backtracking, lack of innovation, and other baffling choices. However, I can appreciate what feels like the best character dynamic and chemistry of any in the franchise. (I just wish I didn't have to halt gameplay and hit the "talk" button to get half of it) Having played through all of the 3D games recently, surprisingly, I feel like the movie tie-in game is the most fun to play, but this one definitely has the most enjoyable character dynamic to me.

10:45 Speaking of Game criticisms and backlash related to the lack of a death mechanic; I'm reminded of a multiplayer game that came out around the time range of this game, where the entire schtick was that there was going to be a finite global livespool for everyone to use and waste as they died in multiplayer matches, to where the game would permanently shut off when all the lives are used up--for everyone. Unfortunately, the Devs released the game, maybe because of the harsh, vocal, and pinpointed backlash--which is to say a backlash that would bring the feeling to a person that "everyone" hates their decision with a passion... the game released with a lives pool that far exceeded the realistic expectation for the miniscule amount of players that ended up playing it, and the game was ever since lost to obscurity. edit: Okay, I just looked it up, and the game I'm thinking of is called the Flock, which released around 2015. So... scratch the timeframe portion of my post.

The game was great. If you wanna have a challange then unlock all the trophies/achievements. There was one trophy which unlocks only when Elika saves you less than a hundred times in the whole game.

The game would've been SO much better both in gameplay and story if it would've just been linear. The whole "Play the sections any order you want" is pointless and only makes it so each of them feel samey. Similarly, it forces the characters to stay in the certain "line" that they cannot cross. It really hinders their development. But at the same time, it does keep the pacing very "natural" of sorts and the development of their relationship isn't too hasty.

I see this game more than piece of art than a game, soundtrack, landscape, ambience and story are beautiful and magical, when i first played i was disappointed with gameplay but i started enjoying the game as a art than entertainment and i still enjoy the game until this day tough not play it but by contemplate it.

Warrior Within was a good sequel in my opinion, but not everyone has a good opinion just because the prince changed a lot to be a violent guy . Tell me something, can you tell me how you would have made a sequel to Sand of Time? Make one more fairy tale, look the concept that the sequel had was good and I admit it they just needed Explain the behavior of the prince that was already seen in the game "The Battle of Prince of Persia" although that game is bad but the story is good

I just finished this game a couple weeks ago for the first time and i have to agree, the DLC really did take away from the game. Like i already hated the cliffhanger but the DLC's was just the same one again but way more underwhelming

That is a very nice game that I remember enjoying it besides the controversy at the time. I remember being annoyed that the dialog had a very scripted banter structure though, more a back and forward.
