Prince Charles rode Good Prospect in the 1981 Horse And Hound Grand Military Gold Cup. The Prince’s attempt to win the race came to a premature end when the 12-year-old horse made a mistake at the 18th Railway Fence less than a mile from home and unseated him. He remounted and appeared unhurt apart from a bloodied nose and rode the gelding back to the unsaddling enclosure. The Prince and Good Prospect had been favorite to win the steeplechase that day.
