Elvis can be the king of rock&roll, mj can be the king of pop, aretha the queen of soul and so on .... Prince however is unique for he is and forever will be THE GOD OF MUSIC. Musically there is nothing he couldn't do. He is missed beyond belief. O(+> 4ever
The thing that makes Prince a fantastic guitarist is he doesn’t play the obvious and that he’s so musical with WHAT he plays. It’s not just licks, scales, or monstrous super sonic shredding of countless notes. He’s playing things that fit the songs moments of mood rising and falling contrasting speed and economy of notes…all seamlessly. Few do that as well as him.
Every note that Prince played here was pretty. Yes, it's bluesy, but his touch is so sweet and crystal clear. Not just tone, but his confidence and accuracy. It's like marshmallow clouds and hummingbirds taking nectar. Prince + Strat is a match made in heaven that didn't happen enough.
As a recording engineer, I can hear it every time I hear him play a lead. Prince approached music technologically, and he approached technology musically. He had a mind that understood what the tech was doing to shape the sound, and explored his gear to make it do things undreamt of even by the creators. His guitar tones are unique in one note.
Music just came so natural to him. Every inch of this man was made of music. It was astonishing how good he could play so many instruments so well. He was born playing music and he died doing that as well. There will never be another. He is most certainly missed.
