been saying for a while how much of a rider prince is. guy was way ahead of everyone in the music industry with how he approached making and distributing music.
Black Americans have not only defined cultural in America but in the world! Music and dance across the globe owes the creative genius of the American slave and their offspring. We need to stop allowing others to continue to cash in and appropriate our legacy as if they are doing something “new”. Black people, support independent black artists of all musical styles. There are black artists with musical skills and songs on par with the great entertainers past and present. But we allow an industry that has consistently abused and taken advantage of our people to determine what music and which artists we get to hear. There is more out there! Let’s give our artists a platform! Support black artists….!
Prince played over 30 instruments the guitar is just one of his favorite we all know. And we're trend setters. A lot of artists are figuring or figured out what Prince is saying. And yes, Prince did eventually go independent with his own lable. The label he's sitting by in this interview
@@OllieMissouri-is6ei Elvis was a trip,I can see 👀 how he was trying to be blk,he stole some of them blk dudes swag and ran 🏃♂️ with it....he was so funny 🤣 to see 👀 him dance, and sing a song " he be mumbling, can't even understand what he said 🤣 😂 like prince on purple rain mumbling something 🤣 but it sounded good
Back in the dayz people thought prince was a punk, but that brother was straight as a arrow and had plenty of super bad women. Prince was on another level of the game when it came to being a musician and getting at the women.💪💯
He was my favorite, and I remember my mother telling me to take his album cover off my wall because he was gay! I argued with her so much that day, I got a whoopin! 😂
You taught me something that I could not learn about the record business. I am grateful and thankful to Phillip Scott, "Uncle Phil," for teaching me a valuable lesson about culture.👌
(Wrong) We dont. Real black culture isn't a trend or a fad. Real Black culture doesn't depend on managers. RnB,Soul,Blues,Jazz,Neosoul.....are long GONE! We dont make these anymore..so it's true, we still don't have a culture.
Look at what happened to Sisco from dru-hill. Because he said the words “living la vida loca”. Even though he was really great friends with the people who wrote that song. They took half his publishing and demanded that they be considered co-writers of the entire song. If you look at the credits of the song. Their names are on it. The people who are not black do not want black people profiting on their own music and creations.
Prince, Sly and Jimi are all legends. Even in death, Prince made sure his music was protected and not used commercially and monetized. He was brilliant. Speaking of not monetizing, TLC is a perfect example of corruption and greed within the industry. They had a lot to say about Pebbles and Babyface and their corruption.
I understand completely what you are saying and agree with it, although it's hard to avoid these people you talk of. I make and own my own music to enjoy the artistic freedom to make what I want, but just putting a music video up on youtube is already contributing to their machine. Great stuff as always. Thanks for the updates. Peace and love
He fought a long battle with Warner brothers over the Batman soundtrack and he was stripped of his name Prince, so he outsmarted Warner brothers by writing “the artists formerly known as PRINCE” to use his name. Prince finally won and got his name back and the rights to his music. He also used the symbol as his name and what impressed me that the newspaper where he lived was selling for $3.00 a copy and included in the paper was a free cd of his music. A lot of artist were only getting a certain amount for each cd that was sold. Every artists should own the rights to their music because the record labels will pay you a small amount for an artists masters and make more residual income in the future. Prince was that dude. Back when purple rain came out,Prince and Micheal Jackson were the two biggest black music stars in the industry.
True indeed brother Phil we as black people are the innovators of American music and culture scene as awhole. We are the flavor of America. Take out the black culture and inventions and America would be boring as hell. Like canada or Europe 😅
This is happening to me now. A play I wrote AND doing well internationally - my royalties, after all these years, is hardly enough to buy a loaf of bread.
An Asian man told me that Bruno Mars can play Prince in a documentary movie on his life because Prince wasn’t Black. This is why BP need to gate-keep their culture.
The music industry is a microcosm of Capitola in America. The least talented, laziest people sit at the top and profit the most while offering the ones who have the talent, innovation and work ethic crumbs.
I started a record label back in 1990 and I did all the work. All I needed was a distributor and do you know that? They told me in order to sign up to Sprint and deal with them. I would have to give them part of my catalog
Phil, remember a lotta our skinfolk didn't turn off NFL fb in protest to being dogged by the league. Even after the whole world protested w us (even taking a knee, of all things), they kept/keep watching and are only bold towards blk folks that call out their cowardice; even now, they do it.
The issues started when MJ was not selling the Beatles catalogue back to the record industry. The record industry was thinking that MJ can own the Beatles catalogue for awhile and sell it back to the record industry for a profit. When MJ said No then the issues came. He owned 70% of Sony and a lot of music catalogues. He knew the " Business of Music " in which the record industry didn't appreciate. Sony got back the Beatles catalogue from MJ's estate on the claims of getting MJ's estate back red.
I was watching 👀 this documentary about prince, he made a classic album at his own house in his own studio and he was on some independent type of business, and they didn't like it,they wanted to be middle men.....I'm fixing to tune in to the show " your show " 👏
And yet people still want to sign up for that. The industry is nothing but a glorified loan for your soul. Most people back then didn't know but with all this knowledge people still want to be in it. Can't save everyone.
Well the compulsory licence allows someone to go in and cover your song without getting your consent or clearance. Black Americans have been emulated all around the world. I've sen young ladies in Asia, Locking and Popping.. The fashion has changed the world
Prince was trying to tell people this for years but nobody listened. They acted as if he walked into a black Christian church and told them that they weren't gentiles and that Jesus was black.
We are jelly that smooths out the brittle peanut butter in this country. However, they always financially profit off of our successful talent unfortunately
When soldier slim died,he was about to blow up too,as an independent artist owning all of his art and craft ,people say master p put a hit out,but I think somebody in the music industry didn't want him to blow up ,and put a hit out
Of course Prince was right. MJ and many more were very skilled in their crafts as black people. We were used and abused while living under the predatory grip of America. Thanks, Phil, for your important commentary as always. keep up the great enlightenment. .
You're still suppressed, even on social media platforms. If you make music and create videos to put on social media platforms, your music videos will be suppressed so that your independent music won't reach the masses. And when you aren't a "well-known" artist people will steal your original music and think they can get away with it, until they can no longer get away with it. So yea, it sucks. I don't even want to be a "public" artist, I just wanna compose, produce, maybe sing background vocals, and sell my music; basically I'm looking to work behind the scenes and be credited for my songwriting, producing, and composing.
(A late general commitment.) I don't see how successful "veteran" recording artists still sign bad contracts! All they have to do read the damn thing before signing it! But most of "US" don't read at all! And if you don't understand what your reading, get an attorney to explain it to you! Ice Cube is the best example I can think of when it comes to the mindset our young artists need to have! ✌✊😎
Michael Jackson talked about the music prince talked about the music yeezee k west talked about the music industry.. I always wanted to b a singer because of mj n prince even though I really can't sing much there's some songs that I can sing n i sound ok
