Prince is the best to ever do it & the greatest thing about him is he flourishes the greatest as an Album artists & that’s what he wanted to be known for. Not a “Pop” artist because he wrote, arranged, composed , performed and or Co-Produced , everything he did. Playing over 21 instruments. Prince is & was the Multi Genre God of Music. His own realm.
I categorize this song with Oh What a Night December 1963. It's a much deeper song than it looks, it's a man reminiscing about losing his virginity and how simple the world was when it happened. There's a corner store and an Old Man Johnsons farm (locally sourced food?) two hallmarks of an America that no longer exists. Even the beret is out of lockstep with the loud fashion of the 1980s and harkens back to the Beat generation of the 50"s.
If you prefer "serious" songs, Sign 'o' the Times is a must. It still resonates after 35 years. The lyric video is the official video, one of the first, along with Bob Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues in the 60s.
Amongst many things I love about Prince is the fun and humour he had in his music and videos. I mean not many other people would put a cough in at the start of a song. And he has that cheeky look on his face the whole way through the video, like his tongue is firmly in our cheeks.
Prince is the Ultimate musical artist and musician I think it's 23 instruments he can play SELF TAUGHT and that just scratches the surface 🌠🌌✨️🎇🎶🎵😘💯💘💖🌟🔥💪
So dreamy, so full of lush sound. Guitar, bass guitar, percussion, finger cymbals, violins, cello, it’s just a gorgeous and unique song. The lions roar in the beginning. It’s so unique.
Prince made 35 albums. They were all different. The best way is to start from the beginning to the end to see his growth. No one like him. A true artist. Raspberry Beret always ended up being a big sing along at Prince concerts.
Cool reaction, so this song was made pre purple rain era, prob 1999 era. Prince hated his haircut in this. The album was finished during the purple rain tour. He wasn't even going to promote it, he said "put it in the back of the record store, the fans will find it" but record company fell in love w this song and said "we need a video, we need a tour" He did every genre and incorporated different sounds on purpose because record company wanted to make him a black RnB artist. The animation in the back was the whole original video then prince changed his mind. You d almost have to pick genre you'd want to hear and prince covered it. "Ronnie talk to Russia" by prince has some nice distorted guitar. Prince doing "stratus" was nice. "Housequake" live 1986 is a nice jazzy high energy performance just to give u variety. "Far away" by Marsha ambrosia is a heavy video w a twist. Cool reaction.
This is my favorite Prince video, so fun! Another upbeat song like this one I also like is Little Red Corvette. Your reactions and how you do them are your business in every way, and I really like them and consider them very sincere. As for not being able to sort out yet whether you like him as an artist or not overall, he was very unique (like you said) in a lot of ways. He's said to have been an absolute perfectionist and expected that from anyone working with him along with professionalism at all times. He was an amazing talent in many respects including as a guitarist.
Hey Anton! I hope you're doing well and having fun. I was listening to some Prince the other day and remembered something you might find interesting. Phil Collins was a huge Prince fan and big influence on him. If you get a chance, listen to Prince's 1999 and you'll hear Sussudio. Phil didn't even try to deny it 100% came from the Prince song. :D
Yeah, Prince let it slide.. But unfortunately, another (unknown) artist wasn't so generous one of his own songs sounded like slightly (ever so slightly) like theirs. And they took him to court for years! finally winning.
Prince sued by an Italian duo in 1995, for his song, Most Beautiful Girl .... The duo finally won, in 2007.... but still it was in the courts up to 2018.
I disagree, Happiness is also passion too, usually when you don’t like happy music, it means you’re missing total enlightenment. Loving an happy song or being happy in a happy moment , means you understand peace. The opposition of that is war. Life is about moments & moments pass , so let’s treat this moment as if it’s the last one we’ll have.
Then its a different word then, because you know it when you hear it. Passion is blazing, and happiness can reach that too but there are multiple forms of happiness, blissed out happiness, then passionate happiness, and various others. Vocally I am very drawn to that form of "blazing passion," that gives you goosebumps, that fills you with energy. Both are great but the later really hits hard for me.
@@antonreacts here one for you . JJ Grey The Sun is shining down and also check out Lochloosa live performed at the same Venue . ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7cYRs2SReps.html
I more call it the Liza Minelli look. Fun fact: It's a wig. He was trying something with his hair but it got destroyed so he sported this wig for the video.
You should check out the video for The Beautiful Ones by Prince. A passionate song for sure. The video is a clip from the Purple Rain movie and he has been seriously wounded by a woman he was in love with.
You would find how insanely amazing Prince is as a lyricist, most of his songs, including “happy songs” have WAY deeper meanings, react to “ another lonely Christmas extended” if you get it uploaded this week I’ll venmo you 30 dollars cause I really want you to hear it!
You should dig deeper into Prince genius & react to his Guitar playing prowes, start bu reacting to His Legendary performance of his Hall of fame induction to the Song When my Guitar Weeps with Tom petty, George Harrison son , amoung others
Prince and MJ went back and forth and didnt like each other. When Purple Rain and Thriller album were jocking each other also Lionel Ritchie Cant Slow Down album battled it out at the awards shows as well. Lionel All night Long Video is a great fun video. Vibrant colors which was done on purpose to show all creeds of life come together for unity in music! Have fun. You need to start down the Rabbit Hole with The Beastie Boys, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Disturbed or CCR just to name a few of my fav artists! Good reaction buddy!
If you want a Prince song that could help you make up your mind about him, check out "Automatic". The video is... interesting, to say the least. The music is still very peculiar to this day. But the lyrics are pretty straightforward. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rYboMkLluKo.html And if you're into some strong lyrics, check out "Temptation", from the same album than "Raspberry beret" (Around the world in a day). Also check out "The beautiful ones" for some passionate and visceral lyrics.
You should check out some of his live performances for example the Super Bowl halftime show he gave and the story behind it, because the people behind the scenes of the show were afraid that the show would be canceled by Prince. Prince 4-ever
It sounds like you enjoy more "intense" songs - whether in music, lyrics or possibly even sound effects (like the type Prince makes here.) I will have to keep it in mind & when I think of any type of "intense" song I will try to remember to suggest it to you. In regards to attraction - (I did actually study a lot of psychology at university where it was discussed as one of the topics.) Attraction is based on 2 things - both physiology (as you were referring to with the vitamins - which is not something that we got into) & "environment" Physiology was just basically described as the In TRUTH "magnetism" - as the word LITERALLY means. How bodies are literally drawn to each other by the type of electrical charge that runs through our bodies (that COULD be affected by such things as your body's lack & surplus of certain chemical elements - that DO come from food we eat or don't - & probably the soil that food was grown in that contains various minerals etc.) This is just like the process of 2 magnets either pulling together or repulsing each other. The 2nd part as I list as "environment" I guess would ACTUALLY be genetics/environment. It was explained that we are either physically attracted to someone who looks like our opposite sex parent - (this was a discussion related to heterosexual attraction) OR we are attracted to someone who looks like ourselves. It wasn't explained to us what caused us to be attracted to either part, but I guess for females raised by a single mom, it is likely the person we are attracted to looks like ourselves - as we wouldn't KNOW what our father looks like in reality. I have found it to be accurate in my case where I wasn't TRYING to be attracted to a particular type of male & not attracted to another - I just found that I DID actually have a "type" - (& that type DID have a lot of physical similarity to myself.) I wonder if (in either of these 2 different scenarios), our subconscious or even physiological/DNA level is looking for our literal 2nd half to create an entire whole. If it is with someone that looks like us but of the opposite sex, it might appear to us to BE the "rest" of us that is missing. If we choose someone who looks like our opposite sex parent, we may interpret THIS look as the type that is therefore the genetic opposite to us that would make us whole. It is an interesting topic. (I WOULD say that that "instant attraction" is JUST THAT - or else you could describe it as "lust". I would argue that "love at first sight" is NOT correct & actually takes away from what "love" actually is, which people often do by throwing the term around so loosely ie. I LOVE that shirt or that food. That expression is often just used as an "emphasis" word more than anything else. At best, it is normally something vaguely intense & certainly fleeting - which is NOT love. Love is a long lasting & steady feeling that can grow little by little over time the more you get to know it - which COULD refer to food, art, a type of music etc. or a person (in a sexual or non-sexual way.) (There is my "two cents" [or 50 cents 😊 in this case] on the topic.) Take care.
He's losing his virginity! He THINKS he loves her, he's in on the joke. He's unbelievably passionate and somehow thoughtful for a teenager. If you're worried that Prince isn't feeling enough, just take a beat and revisit. I love that you're reacting to him, btw. Please don't stop, this is a conversation. I happen to feel passionately about music. I don't often comment but, when I do it might feel angry, that's not my intention at all!
I never realized it until I just heard it... I love Prince's comparison of her intellect to overcast days in the 2nd verse... she was the overcast day... she wasn't too bright... SO MANY DIMENSIONS to words in songs! Been listening to this song for 35+ years I said now, overcast days never turned me on But something about the clouds and her mixed She wasn't too bright But I could tell when she kissed me She knew how to get her kicks
Go down the prince rabbit hole... my advice is to watch a live performance... his version of creep (radio head) live performances , his guitar solos will get you bro,
Phenomenal reaction ❤️. One of my very favorites. I totally love when you get inspired to say something. And just say it . So real. And why I only watch this reaction channel ❤️
Best way I can think of to think of the different meanings of LOVE is to look for synonyms/alternate ways to say it. Like "I think I love her" in this song is "I think I [can't take my attention off] her." "I love spaghetti" means "I feel so good when spaghetti is around." etc... just my take on it
Call me the odd guy out, but most of my favorite songs of all time I never liked when I first heard them. I thought they were meh. This is one of those songs. I really love Prince & this song now! Thanks guy!
It’s a great song. I’m surprised you don’t delve deeper into the lyrics. I mean yes it’s a happy song but the lyrics are just so clever, it’s proper storytelling in a song of a few minutes with a great beat backing it up. There will never be someone else like Prince.
Okay, you've just reacted to one of my favorite Prince songs and videos. KISS and CREAM are must reactions. MONEY DON'T MATTER is also a good, deep meaning song you'd like.
No man had more hits in different genres, vocal ranges and asthetic. There's no throughline to this guy, which makes all comparisons to anyone else invalid. The Michael Jackson comparisons were lazy and wrong. Both Black, same age, androgynous and breaking into pop stardom and Crossing Over but the differences make them apples and oranges. One collaborative (Motown) the other insular. One hyperfocused on appearing wholesome and Asexual, the other opting for innuendo and clever transgression. One the ultimate song and dance man, the other a multi instrumentalist. Michael used his blank check (Thriller) to seek more hits and power, the other used his blank check (Purple Rain) to follow his experimental instincts. Prince was the perfect balance of Pop Star and Indie Cult Idol the industry ever saw.
Much respect to you for not diluting your opinions and being open about how you feel about music, and what makes you tick. I'm perfectly happy listening to some good ol' fashioned "feel good" music, but it's very much in the moment - a quick endorphin hit if you will - but if I'm honest with myself (and my playlists bear this out) my favourite music always has a darker edge to it, and the "passion" that you speak of is very much a factor. I often look more for a deeper emotional impact, because I think that's where music truly excels in describing the human condition (in my opinion) Jeez, I sound like such a pretentious arse, but, well, I hope others understand.
Love your reaction. I saw Do Me, Baby came up after Raspberry Beret. Like a lot of his material, not something you can easily do a reaction to, but a classic Prince jam. You might like to react to Damn U, Last December, The Cross, or Irresistible Bitch.
Well it sounds like your justifying why you appreciate something. Raspberry is a great Pop song. The song that Prince wrote and recorded wasn't probably to be so analytical. He always wrote what he was feeling. The song almost sounds like a film from the 30s. A Black and White film from those days. Where everything was prudish and cryptic when it came to sexual attraction. Almost taboo. She wore a Raspberry Beret the kind you find in a second hand store. Sounds like Prince been in a second hand store himself. The way he used to dress when appeared on the scene looked like that.
Hey Anton. Would love for you to react to "I Get Lonely" by Janet Jackson, "The Pleasure Principle" by Janet, and "All For You" by Janet. As you can tell I a huge Janet fan. Love your take on music. Oh yeah and Prince is the man!
Cheers for the sarcastic reply but if you're on RU-vid commenting on songs at least have a bit of knowledge about music.I know it's sounds ridiculous in this day and age but it might help you considering u seem to be a bit clueless at the moment.Too much too soon sunshine.
