Princess Anne presents Doddie Weir with the Helen Rollason Award for “outstanding achievement in the face of adversity.” Truly well deserved. Disclaimer: I do not own this video. All rights belong to the BBC.
I was one of the cameramen on this and I can honestly say that there wasn't a dry eye in the house after the Doddie film and acceptance on stage.. I know I was blubbing, we all were, as I was this evening, in my kitchen, when I heard the news on the radio. What a man he was..
The world would be a much better place with more people like Doddie. Heartbreaking to see how this wicked disease is slowly taking hold. Doddie, what a legend and what a man!
What an absolute inspiration Doddie is. It's an absolute shame that this will ultimately kill him, but he has most definitely brought much needed awareness and funds to this awful affliction that so many people suffer from.
A true gent an inspiration and a hero. Great rugby player and a lovely gent. Thank you for raising awareness of mind thank you for being you. You are missed but not ever forgotten

It's very saddening to see this. I've read about Doddie but I've not seen any footage of him since his playing days. I only wish him days of happiness and to keep on going. X
Back here after Rob Burrow dying. Two absolute legends. Fantastic at their craft, lovely guys and incredibly brave and inspirational after their diagnosis. R.I.P heroes.
RIP a real giant of a man in every sense of the word 🏴 Best excuse ever on lions tour ( Mistaken identity it was my father in the bar at 5am drinking) Go watch that clip unbelievable 😂🙏
Doddie - I don’t especially follow sports but even I understand the impact he’s left. An extraordinary legacy. And a fan in Princess Anne. As a sports woman in her own right, she is clearly fond of Doddie. When she took the award, probably thinking the Mike was off, and said, “I won’t give it to you, too heavy. Shall I hold onto it for you?”, before breaking into a delightful smile and joking, “You’re going to have to polish it!”. She genuinely looked after him on that stage. What an unlikely but amazing pair!
