It’s nice to learn about Princess Mary, Princess Royal. I didn’t know much about her, she seems like she was a genuinely caring person having trained and worked as a nurse. Quite a beautiful lady even as she got older.
Still don't know much about her🤔 She was one of the few loyal people who still visited the Duke of Windsor in Paris til his death. Dickie Mountbatten used to visit them regularly, however, in attempts to retrieve jewels and documents.
She didn't attend Queens wedding as her husband died 6 months before, they were married in same place, she felt it would be too much to attend without him.
@doravernon6193 It is totally correct. If you read Princess Mary The First Modern Princess by Elisabeth Basford there is a letter in which Princess Mary states that she can't bear to attend the wedding because of mourning her husband.
She also had a keen interest in Irish Wolfhounds, breeding them under the Harewood prefix. She was Patron of the Irish Wolfhound Club of Great Britain until her death.
My grandmother (1890-1965) said of Princess Mary "She was a lovely young girl, and they married her off to some old man with tons of money. It was pathetic. Everyone was disgusted."
Mes Respects à Son Altesse Royal La Princess Mary , Princess Royal and Countess of Harcwood dont soyez les Bienvenus & de même avec mes remerciements en compagnie de ma profonde gratitude infiniment
Harewood House was, historically always pronounced 'Harwood' until the current Lord Lascelles gave up the battle and commenced pronouncing it phonetically. Taxi drivers and visitors used to get lost looking for the non-existent Harwood House.
