what happens after this boss fight still haunts me to this day. there were such little hints as to what was really going on but the twist still blew my mind as a kid

I always really loved the Shroobs and they're really underrated Mario villains.

I remember playing this game in college. I loved the surprise twist of Princess Shroob not being the actual leader. I kind of knew something was wrong when Toadbert started begging you not to assemble the star and Baby Luigi didn't like the "Cobalt Star Sprite", though. This was a fun battle, though. I had more trouble with Elder Shrooboid than I did with her for some reason

This theme is permanently stuck in my head because my DS was faulty and it always crashed randomly during the Elder Princess Shroob fight... and there's no save between them, so I did this battle against the Younger one over, and over, and over and over again, and never beat the whole game. 8 years later I did it with a different DS :D. Then went back to fight Younger Princess Shroob again

The fact that the classic power element(the cobalt star),that you have to collect to defeat the enemy, in every game/film is in reality the worst menace it's such a good and brilliant plot-twist.

I remember doing this fight VERY underleveled because i was lazy and didn't wanna fight early in the game and 10 copy flowers was basically all i had so this took soooo long and i used EVERYTHING on the first shroob princess and little old me was devastated when i saw a second, stronger one. So yeah i got absolutely destroyed. So i restarted the game and fought everything i saw and beat the first one with ease but the second one took me 30 minutes and at least 40 1-ups to finally finish the game

It's the weirdest thing... I've seen this track referred to as "The Overture for the End" and "Overture to the End". Meanwhile, according to the Mario Wiki, as part of the "Mario & Luigi RPG: Sound Selection" CD, this track is called 最後への序曲 which the Mario Wiki decided to translate to "Conclusion's Overture". ...Yeah, it's no wonder people just call it "Princess Shroob Battle". :/

Am I the only one who gets reminded of The 13th Struggle from Kingdom Hearts when I listen to this. Some things are definitely different but I can’t help but think they’re similar in some ways

I love the vibe of this theme. You've finally smoked out the commander only by crushing their entire army and cornering them. The seething hatred permeates this theme as they throw their last guards at you for cannon fodder. Only one side will leave this fight, the other facing total annihilation.

I can only dread of how harder she would have been if this game had a remake. She would have gotten the new rage phase they added to the bosses of the other remakes.

I like how versatile princess shroob is she uses both her ship and fights you personally like she’s at her worst with her ship but also isn’t a pushover on the battlefield

"Man, f*ck this fight, especially. You wanna know how long this fight took? 31 MINUTES. And, I know, you must be thinking it's really annoying that I keep bringing up how long the boss fights take me, but it's to illustrate what my *_SUCCESSFUL ATTEMPTS_* were like. Most of these bosses took me a number of times to beat, and some of my attempts were really close, so imagine having to do it all over again. And I know what you're gonna say, 'Oh, just use the Copy Flower, dumbass'; well, I didn't really find out about the usefulness of the Copy Flower until the final boss because the first few Bros. Items kinda sucked and I hardly ever used them against regular enemies. But even then, it's not like it would've been super useful if I have a 3/4 chance of f*cking up an input with something that I have a limited quantity of. Granted, at this point, I had a bunch of them because I wasn't using them, but the only way you'll be able to keep more Bros. Items is if you get the Ulti-Free Badge from Fawful, which costs *_90 BEANS!_* And you don't even get *_EXPERIENCE_* for it! Like, you realize there's one more fight, right? One where I could use the stat boost because *_ELDER PRINCESS SHROOB_* has *_3,500 HP. IN PHASE 1._* That's 500 more HP than her sister, as well as her *_SECOND FORM,_* which you don't get to heal for; you beat Phase One, you go straight into Phase Two, meaning that all together, she has around *_6,500 HP._* And you know how I *_KNOW_* the developers thought this was way too much, too? In the European & Japanese versions of the game, she has *_3,800 HP TOTAL._* Only 300 HP more than her American first phase, which - by the way - is almost *_DOUBLE THE HP_* of the non-American versions! And honestly? Thank god for the Mix Flower. Because otherwise, I don't know how they expected you to beat her second phase. You have to damage her, the same as every other enemy, right? But in order to do that, you have to deactivate her crown by damaging it. Okay, that's fine. But in order to even be able to *_REACH_* the crown, you have to take out her tentacles. Both the crown AND the tentacles each have their own HP by the way, the tentacles having 400 HP - more than *_ANY REGULAR ENEMY IN THE GAME_* - and the crown having 200 HP, the same amount as a Shroob Rex, the regular enemy with the most HP. Also, the crown and tentacles come back after 3 turns, so f*ck you." -Charriii5 (April 30th, 2021)
