In this tutorial I will walk you through the steps I take to make a drypoint intaglio print at home with somewhat simple supplies. Every month I make a fresh print for my patrons on Patreon and now maybe you can too?!
📣 Disclaimer - I have no formal education in art. I mostly learn via osmosis, through friends and family, books and the good old internet. So if you are looking for a professional education this tutorial won't be the best fit for you.
But… if you just like making cool 💩 then you have come to the right place.

Thank you for sharing our family story Alli! Through your insights, I'm considering more about my experiences in life. You've given me reason to consider who my mentors have been and how they assisted me along.

Lovely to 'meet' you! just stumbled on this because I've been doing etchings on recycled plastic (salad containers) and was looking for the work of others. Your prints are beautiful. I don't have a pasta machine, but I do have a couple ledger presses from my days as an antiquarian book restorer. I also get excited when I'm turning the press wheel to see what I've done!

Lovely to meet you too! It means a lot to me to have a community growing with other fellow experimenters/artists. Makes the world feel a little cozier 😊 Those salad container lids are a lot sturdier than this mylar sheets I have been using. The first print I ever did was on one of those lids. I actually liked it quite a bit better. And it encourages one to eat more salad 😆 So you were an antiquarian book restorer? That sounds like an interesting chapter in life. You would’ve met some special books. And you have been able to turn the ledger press to a new project. I’d like to see some of your art. I am with you. It’s so exciting putting the first front through the press. You really don’t know whether the image will work until it comes out of that press. Oh the suspense!

Thank you for this, I'm going to try it, you've made it clear and concise. One note: you say 7 millimeters but the mylar is 7 mils, or thousandth of an inch. 7mm = 0.27" (over a quarter inch thick) and and 7 mil = 0.007 inches, very thin. Thanks again, and lovely work!

Oh thank you for the correction on measurement! That is precisely the sort of thing I would get wrong. For anyone watching I hope you see this comment from @incapoo
