These things were a big element of Romanticism in garden design in England, influenced by the Gothic literature of the time that was a reaction to the classical calm of the Enlightenment.

I've always wondered, Where did the British get their love of gardens? I could be wrong, but only a Brit could have birthed the destruction of civilization by plant. Just saying. Enjoyed the video.
