You are forgetting that farmers abandoned the growing of Maize because the price was not cost reflective. The govt increased the floor price from K160 to K280 in 2022/23 farming season to encourage more farmers to grow maize.

On top of that the previous regime in their infinite wisdom thought it was ok to construct and expand a second hydro electricity power plant on the same river with dwindling water levels.We are back to load shedding today because of the poor decision the previous regime made. Instead of growing the economy, they built modern health facilities knowing full well that the health sector is heavily subsidised. And then our biggest mines, Mopani and KCM closed. No investor wanted to invest in our country. The only town they gave a facelift is Lusaka. They choked they economy by contracting unsustainable debt, putting our assets at risk of privatization. Had our debt not been restructured, we'd have lost our national assets. Their cadres had the liberty to harass our men in uniform. They misappropriated a lot of funds by inflating the figures. The country is undergoing a global recession, there was no war during ECL's reign but the contraction of unsustainable debt triggered the cost of living to soar higher.
