Greetings,
In this film, I demo how to change the oil and grease the gears on an Pinion gear box. Remember low mainatine is not the same as no maintenance. And you want to change the oil on your bike often to ensure it last a long time.

To pack grease into bearings you’d need to push - same as gears. Not apply on the surface, but push grease to inner spaces.

thanks for this! i've had my 600 for about three years, but didn't ride much during the pandemic, so I delayed changing the oil until now. I'm sure the outcoming oil will be fairly dark due to gearbox wear-in... it's much smoother now than when i first got it

Thanks for the video and extra perspective. It seems a little odd to be so precise and clean in everything but not do a general clean and wipedown of the oil change area of the bike before you start the oil change. I know I would.

I live in Vancouver and could not find a local Pinion dealer to help with the oil change on my Priority 600 (with a C1.12). One shop offered to order an oil change kit for $70. I politely declined. I found a shop in Ontario (True North Cycles) who mailed me a kit for $57 ($40 + shipping). (The other option was to order direct from Priority Bikes in New York for $30USD and shipping.) Since this is the first oil change on my bike I went with the kit (for the syringe and fixtures). Word online is that Pinion oil is just Synthetic 75W transmission oil. In the future I'll go to Canadian Tire and buy the stuff by the liter! Since I ride year-round I plan to do oil changes every 6 months. Now I just have to figure out what grease to use on the planetary gears. Hope this helps!

I'm going to have to get a Priority w/Pinion! Great job on the video! Where did the oil go? Well, there appears to be some left in the yogurt cup plus all the residual oil clinging to every internal surface of the gearbox. Did you ever notice any "wet" spots around the seals or case mating surfaces that would indicate leakage? Here's a couple tips that you might find handy: NLGI #2 is more of an all-purpose grease, #1 would be better suited to those planetary gears. What grease classification does Pinion require? 1) Install filler fitting and hose into gearbox filler hole (lessen the chance of cross-threading plastic fitting threads) 2) Remove plunger from syringe 3) Attach syringe body to filler tube 4) Pour new gear oil into syringe 5) Insert plunger into syringe body 6) Inject new gear oil into gearbox It'll be interesting to find out what your oil analysis reveals!

Hi Buck that's fantastic. It does make you wander why they want to charge so much for such a small quantity, which only then makes folk look else where and then a loss of sales for pinion. Still what do I know about sales and marketing 😏?

Great video! A couple questions. Question #1 - You used your air gun to remove the last bit of oil, but I didn't see where that did much, if any, come out with that. Did I miss something? Question #2 - Did you find out what type of oil is used in the gearbox? Thanks

Yes I did. Part of the report I received from the lab is below. I have a film that covers this report in detail coming out later this year. ##### BUCK: This sample's viscosity fits the ranges of 75W and 80W gear lube. We found a lot of wear metal in the spectral results, but we're not sure if it's a concern or not. We don't have a lot of experience with Pinion gear boxes (this seems to be the first we've ever seen), but the high metals can be partly related to wear-in since this is the factory oil. The water contamination and high insolubles (solids) might have contributed to the high metals - excess solids can turn oil abrasive. If the bike is running well, check back on metals in 2,500 miles for an update.

I was wondering about that myself. Seems best suited for paved surfaces and not something you would want to take on a messy off-road ride.

In the newer models they look to be better in terms of coverage. However, they also use an electric motor system to turn those gears.

I did. And I have a video coming out with that exact oil on Sunday. I'll give you the spoiler though. You can go to any auto parts store and purchase 75w90 synthetic oil for about $15 a liter. Which is enough to do 15 oil changes. $1 in oil per change!
