+Robin Sauls Apparently Louise Siverson - the actress who played Lou Kelly - was only in her 20s here but her hairstyle and deep voice make her appear 15 years older
"How aboot givin us a wee kiss before I chuck ye doon the stairs" My #1 Prisoner line of all time! Nice to hear it again. I'm guessing the flashback episode covered the gap between old cast leaving and new cast arriving. Oh Gawd...I just remembered the drongos we're about to get foisted on us.
They should've just left Bea alone. She'd been gone over 100 episodes by this point, handing her a fate as brutal as that after all she'd been through was just cruel.
I feel it still left scope for a return in the final few episodes of the show. The body found may not have been her's and it turned out she escaped. She could have been captured and ended up back in H Block for the last few episodes. The world of the story writer is endless. They purposely tried to wipe her out due to all the requests to bring her back they had.
If they didn’t kill Bea, they’d always be ordered to bring her back. Eventually, they had to go big to out a stop to it, seeing as Val Lehman clearly had no intention of coming back. If Bea was to be retired, she had to be retired in the most final way possible.
Burns was living in the carpark in her trailer of the 10 backlot. she said that her character couldn't be redeemed at that point and said killing doyle so she didnt have to come back was one of her reasons
This show used to be good for it's slapstick: Joan: Funny how things come to you in the middle of the night... Bea: Yeah stomach aches, nightmares and you!
Man I love this Flashback Episode. Bringing memories of the original generation of Prisoner! 👍 Sadly this Episode ends with a Shocker of the greatest Top Dog of all! 💔😪
End of an era. This is an incredible look back at the glory days of Prisoner. Sad to hear of Beas death. The Barnhurst invasion is the genuine jumping the shark moment. But it continues. Still addicted to the end.
That was quite a moving episode with all those moments of reminiscence. I know Myra would have had some knowledge on the history of Wentworth as I believe she had been inside before, although not on screen, but I don't remember Lou or Alice being around back then, not even as extras in the background, but I guess we are meant to assume that they were in other blocks and that would explain how they could recall all those flashback incidents. I so wished they had given Bea a better ending in the show than that, her character deserved so much more.
8ball they couldnt. she went on hols n was undecided whether shed come back to the show or not. interviewed years later she said if she could go back and do it all again she prolly woulda just had a short holiday n returned but i guess... no changing the past... unfortunately
Blimey, this episode seemed to go on forever. It was great to see some clips from the past episodes. Hearing about Bea was quite a shock. Thanks for uploading PCBH, I'm really grateful for that.
Watching the flashbacks makes me realise how much I miss the old gang.... yes even Judy!! I really feel like rewatching from episode one right now. The storylines were never as good😢
Bettie Joseph I do enjoy the old days with Bea, Lizzie, Doreen, Judy, Vera, Jim, Erica, Meg, Lynn, Karen, Franky, Monnie, Noeline, Chrissie, etc. Later on, the show doesn't feel the same, and the new storylines and new characters are just not as good as the old cast and the old storylines.
Sad to say, but Frankie (Carol Burns) passed away December 22, 2015. That makes this flashback episode a little tough to watch right now. Val Lehman sent out the message from her Facebook account when she got the news while on holiday in California.
Aww loved this show first time it was aired on itv! Loved re watching from the start again and can't believe theres not many to go now till its finished :'( I might re start when it's over as ill have nothing to watch :'( just can't beat the old one's lol
Dennis Cruickshank has got some nerve going off at Desmond. I didnt see him going off at Heather Rodgers when she attempted the conspiracy against Ferguson, and she was an officer. Rodgers was dismissed, but Dennis still tried to find her after he returned.
For many years now, that is definitely what other people online have said on Prisoner forums, Prisoner fan pages on Facebook, and even on Prisoner episodes on RU-vid. 😊😃 I agree with them. I like to think she isn't dead either and is elsewhere happy and free. Look out Ferguson! Hehehe. 😉😄😃😊
@@derekhorne8076 I think the authorities faked Beas death gave her plastic surgery and used her as a plant to bring down the Fellowes/Ballinger gang afterwards giving her a pardon and lived out the rest of her life happily
The flash back, approximately 13min into the show. Bea Smith shouts out. All right whose next. In the new Wentworth the Freak takes out several prisoners, in the yard. Shouts out a similar line. "Whose next", season 5 episode
Oh crikey guys open your imaginations .... Myra had been in Wentworth prior to the beginning of the show. She has a history with Bea, Doreen, Chrissie, etc, especially as part of the PRG. We are meant to ASSUME that Lou and Alice have been in Wentworth for years, possibly in other blocks or just two background characters that we have never seen.
Actually enjoyed the walk down memory lane. Great seeing some of the old timers. Bea was a Legend for kicking the Freaky Fergie's arse but of course she paid for it. The ending of this episode just underscores the tragedy. I still say Bea deserved a much better ending than she ended up with. Same can be said for Myra. Oh well... this episode is obviously a transition of sorts so it will be interesting to see how things play out now... and especially once Fergie is out of the hospital and back in Wentworth. Damn that do-gooding knowo-nothing Nun anyway!
As a 10 year old watching this episode in 1985, it was a wow factor seeing these flashback episodes especially as I was too young in 79, 80 to remember.
@@tefllife2024 I was nine in '84 and remember finding a newspaper in mum's airing cupboard dated 1978, it seemed like it was from many years in the past at the time, not just six!
@@Cosford869 it was so funny, me and my brother called it "the old prisoner" yet the flashbacks were only 6 years old. In 1985, something from 1982 seemed like another lifetime. I guess many changes happened in such a short timeframe, every year of the 80s felt like something brand new. Yes we had 1970s magazines and ABBA records in our garage and they felt like "the olden days" when we dug them up. These days, 2015 and 2021 don't feel different.
It was actually on the Prisoner fan page, in a nutshell Coral basically warned a user that any time you believe what Val says you're in trouble. Lots of love there as you can probably tell :L
WOW! Lou has a fantastic memory. She was there from Wonky Warner's days and remembers the tunnel that SHE helped dig. Plus Frankie and Dor were going to "Knock Off" a shop, NOT a bank.
Bloody classic this programme. And this episode is pure genius. Just when it’s needed the most, we get a recap. Makes me want to start all over again. The writers had some imagination. The stories that were covered !!! Wentworth was a good watch. But had nothing on PCBH. Thank you again for the upload. It is my comfort watch
It was completely done for practical reasons. It was contract renewal time, there was some delay in the process, so they had to come up with a filler episode because only 5 of the inmate actors were still under contract at the time.
Where could Joan possibly be? Love the flashbacks with Frankie! Bea's, Mouses, and Judy and doreen's escapes with the cave in was also good. Why did Bea have to die? She could've been back at Wentworth bigger and better than ever!
Its hilarious how they are trying to make Myra feel guilty about setting up Joan as if she didn't have it coming. Nice flashbacks episode. Made me miss Bea, Lizzie and co even more.
Poor Norm. he's a kind understanding man, and Joyce is bored of him! Joyce should be grateful, most women would give their right arm for a kind understanding man!
Don't know what Lou was talking about, in regards to spending a week digging the tunnel: the tunnel was already there; the women just had to pry off the lid to get to it. Plus Lou wasn't even an inmate at the time. But nice to see all the flashbacks, though!
It's actually pretty funny that Lou would talk about past events when she wasn't even there. Very recently Joan made a reference when Lou was in court that would imply that Lou wouldn't been in Wentworth long enough to have known all these things.
A community has a shared history. All the women they have loved and lost, are part of Wentworth's history. Oh and at that time, Joan couldn't fight... RIP Bea, Lizzie, Judy, Pixie...
Loved the way they mention Bea Lizzie Doreen Jock Vera Colleen etc Sad the way Bea was written out when the women were telling their stories of Legends 😔. This was such a good episode.
definatly old prisoner was better than newer prisoner, all those flashbacks! awesum. ALL those bad things happening too meg, the producers really layed into her, lol. At this point the producers werent sure if the series was going to continue, thats whty they done this episode like this, was a good episode. FRANKIE! and lynn warner, both great characters, i miss lizzie so much, and bea.
agreed. The stupid network was angry because they had invited Val back (their third time doing so and the first time she actually considered it, but it didn't work out when she asked for specific things in her contract. It's common knowledge that Val was one of the smarter actresses from the series, which is why she is the only one who currently receives residuals from the show, due to her reading the fine print on the contracts) and took their anger out on the character. Bea's return=EPIC
The end of Bea in the episode after Bryant, Warren and Mitchell had made their last appearances. With Joan in hospital, out of action, it was a great episode of flashbacks and memories, a watershed moment in the series.
I love the shameless retconning in this episode (concerning Lou and Alice's first hand knowledge of events going back before their first appearance) - soap operas love a good retcon, and this one I'm willing to go along with!!
Never realised Anita used to be Jackie Nolan. She had a fling with fletch. Bea deserved a better ending than this maybe producers were unhappy she wouldn't come back. One thing bugs me lou never knew bea so how does she go on bout helping with tunnel escape. Only meg was in it from start.
Maybe this is the official Line in the Sand. The writers had to do flashbacks because they just couldn't keep up the momentum of the show. I guess from this point forward they were just marking time to the end.
Eugene DeGeorge Some years ago, Coral Drouyn who wrote this episode did explain why this episode was different on the former official Prisoner message board forum. 😃
That alternate angle of the rec room really made it look drab and depressing. It looks much better from the regular angle. I also heard Val Lehman mention in one of her old interviews that in reality, the rec room doubled as the dining room... lol
To those who say it was a mistake for the producers to kill off Bea I can see why they did it. It was to stop fans calling for Bea to return to the show. Val Lehman had been made numerous offers to come back but had refused every one of them and made it clear she didn't want the job again. Personally I think it was for the best as the show had moved on by this stage.
What is with the panic at 3:25, ok Joans not answering her phone, big deal, she might have gone away for a couple of days or anything, yet they are all acting like its out of the ordinary for somebody to be out of their house for the day and not answer their phone.
