The director is actually known for his, ehm, unconventional approach and weird stuff that he is filming. And the whole story has a plot of modern nuclear dangers. Japan is the country that suffered not only from two devastating nuke drops but also from NPP accidents. The latter is more important here since it was mostly covered up by the government and led to so many unnecessary deaths (which is why the gloves are red, go figure). People dressed in mannequins and weird clothes are victims of the radiation. Skin falling off etc. Deep meaning behind a v e r y confusing piece of whatever this movie is.
@visassess8607

What do you mean covered up? The Fukushima disaster gained worldwide news immediately.
@laowei1611
@laowei1611 2 года назад
@@visassess8607 But there were events that led to the catastrophe. Malfunctioning gear, staff being oblivious to obvious warning signs, the low construction costs, an absolute absurd position by the water etc. All of this was handled poorly by the government and led to a lot of suffering. They knew a lot of things were wrong with the place but did not give two shits about it cuz cost efficiency.
@visassess8607
@visassess8607 2 года назад
@@laowei1611 Well yeah but that's not the government covering it up, that's just them being incompetent. It's not like Chernobyl where the Soviets blatantly lied and said nothing was wrong after it happened
@laowei1611
@laowei1611 2 года назад
@@visassess8607 Maybe I just phrased it wrong, my fault. Not the event itself was covered up but the events leading to it. That is why the director is kind of criticizing the politicians as, well, involuntary murderers. Implying their inaction as crime.

For we must all appear before “the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.” (2 Corinthians 5:10) We will be judged for every deed we do whether is be good or bad. This isn’t something to worry about even if our bad deeds out weigh our good. Because none are good before God, all have sinned against Him and cursed His name, but He in His tender loving mercy hath given us His Son as our ransom. When Jesus was dying all of Gods wrath and judgement was poured out onto Him even though He was sinless. He was sacrificed and tortured on our behalf though we are sinful and carnal. Christ payed our sin debt with His perfect sinless blood so we may escape judgment and have everlasting life. But this great gift is only for those who accept it and accept Him ❤️

I see what you mean. To the film's credit Nick Cage's craziness in acting his conflicted character is at least watchable, but he's not enough to carry the film even as a guilty pleasure sadly. He's made to look like an idiot on the first half in a way that feels empty. Given Sofia Boutella doesn't really get to do much until the end, there's no one else onscreen to really match his unhinged acting (the white suited antagonist that I don't remember his name of kinda acts awkwardly in contrast to Cage). Probably the ending fight scenes are.. acceptable but you might as well watch a clip of that on RU-vid than see the entire film.

I feel like this movie could’ve been so good if more time and thought went into it instead of poor action scenes, unnecessary contrivances, and way too ambiguous plot. The color palettes of the beginning are so saturated and artificial and they slowly transform into burnt and anarchic which could be a great message on the stage of the people-except it isn’t fully utilized and is drowned out by odd and random choices that drag the story out so much long than it needs to be. Overall I’d say it’s like choosing a roller coaster ride that starts out excitedly going up just for you to get off at the top as it turns into an over an hour long zip line that you didn’t expect.

I feel like some of the movie was lost in translation - the exposition part makes much more sense when you know that "slide theaters" - kimishibai - were a pre-war entertainment in Japan. In fact, one of the heroes that later showed up in manga and anime - Ogan Bat - started as a character in kimishibai. So them explaining the story in slides is a way of showing even more that people in Ghostland had to go to basics.

Elvis, I sincerely hope you read this. It's September, 17th, 2021, Philadelphia, PA. My wife has recently returned home from an extended stay in Jordan visiting family. She's been back for a little over a week and feels depressed missing her old culture and life in Jordan before she moved here to be with me. I want to give her a taste of Jordan(In Philadelphia) and take her too a highly rated meditterannean restaurant, the food was phenomenal and she cried at the surprise. It was truly beautiful, she ordered in Arabic, got a discount and everything. A wonderful date. Then we went and saw Prisoners Of The Ghostland in a crowded theater, entrenched in a thick skunk weed smell the movie began. Almost immediately we wanted to die. I quickly turned on the Phillies game in my headphones and listened to that in one ear and the movie with my un-headphoned ear(Phillies won, by the way) throughout the movie, I asked multiple times if she wanted to leave, she denied saying "we did my thing, now let's do your thing". Leaving the theater potheads were raving about how "totally fuckin nuts" it was, and that "it's like... the weirdest movie I've ever seen." Our way back home we simply made fun of the movie and crowd, it was an amazing date. She truly is the love of my life.

Hi ! I'm not a Sion Sono specialist, but tbh, the man has some really good films in his works, and while Prisoners of the Ghostland might be in his worst films to date, some other really blows the stage, like Tokyo Tribe or even Cold Fish!

Elvis...please for the love of God don't let Twitter dictate EVEN a little on how you run your channel and how "negative" you may or may not be. Utter garbage Twitter is.

If twitter always had its way then the world would be a completely amorphous blob of people who never upset the status quo or say anything remotely divisive. But then twitter would probably implode because nobody would have anything to be outraged about

I kinda like this movie because I love Sion Sono (and Nic Cage, obviously), this is probably one of his weaker ones but everything he does is insane, over the top and silly with some deep themes behind them. I recomend you "Love Exposure", his four hour long masterpiece, "Why don't you play in hell?", "Suicide Club" and "Antiporno" to name a few (He made two or more movies every year).

I love Sion Sono. And somehow Nicolas Cage fits in and doesn't at all. You should definitely watch his other works. It's incredible! Love Exposure, Forest of Love, Himizu, Cold Fish

You should definitely try out other Sion Sono movies. Love Exposure is maybe 4h long but trust me, it's so crazy and great. Cold Fish is also good. If you want something more dramatic, try to go for Noriko's Dinner or Suicide Club. Also look out Strange Circus, that one will blow your mind...

Watched this a couple months back and was hoping you'd get around to it. I agree completely. I was hooked by the aesthetic, but completely disappointed by everything else. Also...Nic is the only man alive with a set of testi-cools. He's just that badass.

Incredible how a great director like Sion Sono can make a bad movie when given a shitty script. Anyway, you should check out Love Exposure and Cold Fish, both great movies by him! Ps: it's pronounced "Sheeon Sono" if you're wondering
