This swap is wonderful for releasing those who needed to be free of putins oppression. It is SO good to see Vladimir Kara-Murza out of a potential replica of what happened to Alexei Navalny. It is also distressing for some, with the release of Vadim Krasikov. There will be mourning in Chechnya all over again knowing that putins assassin is free. Which leads me back to the major focus of this posting by 'Democracy Now!'. The focus on pathways to peace through negotiations and diplomacy as commented on prolifically here by Katrina vanden Heuvel: This has happened before, where the big global players have cosy armchair banter with putin. putins agenda involves NOT inviting the neighbours of Russia to the 'discussion table of equality'. These neighbours are the main event! These are the people that putin should face around a discussion table, with the big powers standing off as facilitators only. The 2nd Chechen War with all it's atrocities and genocide went entirely under the radar because of this 'buddy diplomacy'. All putin needed to do was classify Chechens as "terrorists", and the slate was wiped clean. If not for brave honourable Russians like Anna Politkovskaya, Natalya Estemirova and Stanislav Markelov, these realities would never have been publicised. And all of these whistleblowers were assassinated by putin. Ukraine, Chechnya, Georgia, Moldova, and the Baltic Nations are the ones who should determine what negotiation and diplomacy should look like with putin.
So happy for these families!❤ Excellent work, President Biden, Vice President Harris, all of the people at the State Department and all of the partner Nations who worked on this swap as well.🇺🇸

For what ? He conspired to steal classified data from a secured government facility and then ran from two investigations in Europe for rape and other charges , he is a criminal and you support him
Putin should thank him since he was actually helping Putin. Why should he be compensated for breaking the law, his intentions were far from altruistic and his freedom of speech doesn't include hacking and stealing.
Even if Ukraine decides to negotiate for peace and abstain from reconquering the occupied territories, this would change nothing in the relationship between Russia and the West. The attack on a sovereign country itself makes Russia an enemy of the Free World, regardless of the outcome.
You say the same for hawaii and puerto rico. The didnt 'decide' to become US property. Economic/integrated neocolonialism is an irreversible fact of life. Build a bridge and get over it.
Consider how that swap worked: The US got back 3 journalists and a retired Marine who was visiting Moscow for a wedding. The Russians got back, among others, a convicted assassin, an arms dealer, and two spites.
Capitulating to an imperialist, autocratic Russia via continued prisoners swaps or capitulation in Ukraine will not make the world safer. This is naive.
What are you talking about they have been talking about the deal for two days on the news …. Have you been under a rock ? You come on here and spout lies because you are too lazy to even check tv or the internet because you’re scared to come out of your little bubble
@@pagewizards340 it was trump who was livid about this. He couldn't be happy that Americans were brought home. He's not a patriot. He's a self serving con man.
Absolutely, never before there was a prisoner swap involving so many Western nations and even freeing Russian dissidents. It’s good to see this level of multinational cooperation. 👍
