I think Prius (V especially) camping is gonna get muuuuch more popular now with #vanlife slowing down and people wanting to be more frugal. Running AC overnight doesnt even take a gallon of gas for mine! Cant wait for more hybrids from Toyota in the future, the new Sienna would be awesome for camping if not for the price

Hi Jeff, thanks for the video - will follow to see what changes you make (everyone does) and learn about your car camping adventures. I have the exact same car...a 2012 Prius V, (25,000 miles), and have set it up for camping. My first experience a couple weeks ago was a great success. It took hundreds (maybe thousands) of videos to try and get it right the first time! I read many times that you need air space in front of the passenger side, back seat, so as not to cover the hybrid battery vent. You might want to check that out. This is where I store several gallons of water inside plastic bins. Wanting to keep my car ready to shift back to normal passenger mode, I did not remove the back seat, or seats, but built a simple, 25" wide, 3-hinge, 1/2" thick plywood platform, with 6" legs on the back half to make the bed level. When folded up and kept in the trunk area, I still have enough storage for my solar panels and camping table to lay out flat underneath. Best of luck to you.

We have a Prius V as well. We love it. We got our windows tinted dark so no one can see in and that really helped us a lot keep out the heat and we got rain guards so when it’s raining we can crack our windows at night I found those two things are very helpful.

Thanks for the video! It's a great car; I have the 2014 V in that color. I got a tri-fold bed for mine that's fits perfectly; I'm 6'3" and there's plenty of room. The biggest killer of these cars, however, is blocking the opening under the front of the back passenger seat (on my car)... because that's where the fan for the big battery is. If it's blocked, like with your giant sleeping bag or anything else, it can cut the lifetime of the battery significantly. As will cycling the battery overnight with ac/heater on. Apparently one way of estimating battery life is number of cycles, and it's a lot, but it's limited.

I've seen outdoor enclosures that attach to your back hatch on like a Range Rover. I'll bet there's one for the Prius as well. Would be a fun way to go camping with some extra space. The Prius is really a sweet vehicle if you're solo with all sorts of possibilities. I'm digging the orange shades as well. 😎✌️

Ya, good luck man. My abs system and power inverter went out. Unless you can do it yourself and have a place to replace…you’ll spend 8k plus. It’s a give and take with hybrids.

You might want to place a wide rubber band around the mason jar to give you some grip and protection if it's rolling against anything hard in a panic stop

Howdy, I’ve been recently looking to buy a Prius V. I love your setup. From what I’ve been hearing is that these vehicles start going downhill around 150k miles with EGR/head gasket issues and eventually around 200k they need a completely new engine. Now I don’t know how true this is because I haven’t gathered enough info from enough people but I’m curious if you’ve experienced any of these issues?

How does the cardboard help? I have the same car. And that slant does suck. I want to figure out how to get it level. I guess it will take building something in there.

When I sleep in the v I don't cover the windows I leave a message on the notebook with my phone number and what I am doing. I parked in handycap and said I was doing a breathing treatment. When I am on the road I'm sleeping 2 hours max. I'm getting new hybrid battery Monday. $1.8K and I'll know just what I have. We get hurricane and I need reliable transportation not knowing what the battery is up to is unacceptable.

Take the back seat backs off and leave the bench. Measure the inside from trunk to edge of bench seats. Go to Home Depot, and buy a nice piece of thick plywood and make them cut it to the dimensions.Your welcome
