Privacy Shield is down, and the highest European court has thrown major doubt on the legitimacy of the next most popular method for transfers of personal data to the US.

Is it expected to encrypt all data when transferring or only what is considered sensitive under GDPR?

Hi Armando, thanks for commenting. Encryption is certainly one of the technical measures that you can use as possible 'supplemental measures' to try and fix using Standard Contractual Clauses to countries such as the USA. Of course, encryption at rest and in transit should be the norm for all your personal data. However, there will be times when plain text access is required, and the EDPB has recently made comments on that in their snappily titled: 'Recommendations 01/2020 on measures that supplement transfer tools to ensure compliance with the EU level of protection of personal data'.
