Takeoff, climb, straight and level, trim, turns, and descents are covered in this video. More supplemental flight training video's are available at www.askcaptainscott.com
This is so helpful. My dad was a pilot. He took my mom and I up when I was basically a newborn; he started paying for lessons when I was 14; and he dreamt of me flying for the military; but I was never really invested in it. He died 11 years ago and I really regret not paying more attention as a kid. Now at 36, I've decided to get my ppl. These videos are so helpful to refresh my memory on the lingo and instrumentation. Hope my instructor is as knowledgeable and clear in direction as you are!
That's great to hear. Good luck with your flight training. Sorry to hear about loosing your dad. Mine passed away when I was in my early twenties so I know the feeling.
I am a military flight instructor (helicopters) and it truly has been a pleasure listening to you instruct. I have always been pretty critical of civilian flight instructors because they lack that human touch and they forget that they were in the same boat sometime ago. You, sir, are an artist when it comes to flight instruction. Many CFIs could learn a lot from watching you.
I recently started taking flight lessons and I now have 3 hours under my belt, obviousy I still have a long way to go, but your videos really help me become more familiar with the plane and processes etc. Brilliant work! The way you explain everything so clearly is really helpful and the calmness of your voice makes it sound so easy. I'm really impressed, and I'm hoping to be just as confident flying the plane in some 20-40 hours.
@@MichaelRicksAherne Thanks I will definitely check it out! My first flight was amazing. I really need to get the rudder/pedal situation figured out. It was really hard for me to control the plane that way.
been perusing utube for a few weeks, thinking about a ppl. you sir are a joy to watch and learn from. your passion and knowledge and calming words of instruction are priceless kudos to you and your love of flying and more inportantly sharing your knowledge with the world
what a great video....what separates this video from most others: no ego issues, straight forward, gives an honest human perspective with the joy and the seriousness of flying coming through like a plane coming out of the clouds.
After logging .6 hrs and having gone up once and just finishing reading lesson #1 you are reassuring to me and so much help in this time of nervousness. Thank you so much!
Best teacher on the internet ive found so far. Ty Capt Scott. You’re very thorough in your explanations and letting the viewer know what’s inside your thoughts. Appreciate it greatly. Looking forward to starting my private pilot career. :)
Hello from Britain. Having always been interested in aviation but never been able to afford to learn to fly I really enjoyed your 2 tutorials on flying the Cessna. Your explanations on the controls, use of trim, & power settings was so informative & easy to follow.
I learned so much from a commercial pilot when he was a passenger. I was deathly afraid of flying. Once it was explained, I can't get enough. PS: I really like this guy's explanation :)
That was essentially everything my discovery flight covered, but I also got to do a landing. Had I watched this before my flight, i would've been way more relaxed. I dig the way captain scott explained everything. Have my second flight tomorrow, and I can't wait!
@@AngRene7 nope, covid ended up ruining all of that. I also had some vision issues come up in my right eye, so I need to see if I can even pass the physical before I try again.
Just completed ground school, 52 yrs old and being a PP has been a dream since I was 3 I'm finally doing it. The first flight videos were awesome because I recognized so much you were talking about before ever getting in the plane for the first time. Thanks great video.
Feel the need to add my voice to all the others here. Thank you so very much for taking the time to make these. You do indeed have a gift for instruction, and you are using this platform to share your knowledge with so many. Great work, Captain Scott!
You are an amazing conveyer of knowledge...I am 59 and just looking at ground school...I hope I get someone as cool and calm for my instruction when the time comes...thank you soo much Captain Scott😎
I just wanted to thank you so much for this I started lessons and I was going in blind with no training or preface before getting into the plane the first 3 lessons. I did not understand anything the instructor said or told me. I have been so overwhelmed. I did not want to seem rude by asking questions. This has helped me make sense of everything that has been said now. This is a lifelong dream of mine to fly, I did not even think it was possible for me to be able to do it. I an fullfilling a dream at almost 60 years old. Do not ever stop dreaming or living. I can't wait until my next lesson this will make a world of difference
That's great you started taking lessons. I was the same way when I started flying, I had zero clue what the instructor was talking about. If you have any questions never hesitate to email me. If you do, go thru the website. Those come into my gmail... Anyhow have fun....
I have student pilot licence. I have watched this video several times over. This gives a wealth of practical information of level and straight flight, banking, descent and climb.
I loved this, after my first flight lesson I truly did feel like my head wanted to explode and wondered "how I'm ever going to know all this.' I was severely overwhelmed. You validated my feelings which in turn encouraged me that I'm on the right path. So thank you for that!
Yeah that’s a good point, I already had 3 flight lessons and I feel so discouraged, I wish I had someone to tell me that is normal to feel overwhelmed and that with time everything is going to come together just fine. Sometimes all we need as students is not just the knowledge but also some words of encouragement… Some empathy. And he explains everything so clear and so well, my instructor just tell me to read the book and then expects me to be able to perform everything all together. He wants me to know all the procedures by memory, to do communications and the callouts and I wish he could just let me learn the basics of flying an aircraft first… He also gives me the controls and then notes what I am doing wrong, but he never explains what I am supposed to do and expect. It’s being very difficult. If I could wish for one thing is to have an instructor just like this, communicative and clear, and someone who could give me some assurance instead of putting me under so much pressure… I am now seeing this videos in hopes to lear how to do it, you know your instructor is not doing a good job when you have to go to RU-vid to get an understanding… 😞 Thank you so much for posting this videos, they mean a lot 🙏🏻🥺
Had my first flight lesson yesterday. This video really would have helped a couple days ago. I could not hear my instructor very well and this video helped a lot with explaining everything in more detail. Thank you!
Ive Always wanted to start the journey to my rec license. These videos are awesome. I have a ton on notes from your channel. Can’t wait to start the classes!
This is one of the best examples of flight instruction I’ve ever seen. You are a natural teacher and a natural aviator. Thanks so much for sharing these.
Captain Scott I love your videos! One day I plan on taking flight lessons and I watch a lot of you tube videos to gain basic knowledge in hope of when I start I'm not overwhelmed. You explain things so clearly that it's easy to understand. Keep up the good work!!
I’ve watched tons of ppl content just trying to get a handle on what to expect and learn some of the technical aspects of flying. This series of videos gave me both and far and away more than anyone else’s have. Thank you Captain Scott!!
Hey AJ, The new websites open and has all the stuff on it you'll learn during your flying lessons. There's also a section on how to talk on the radio which is everyone's biggest fear. Good luck. askcaptainscott.com
Just found you after quite a few years of flying flight sim on my computer! Your videos have helped me understand things that flight sim does not convey about real life flying. The first video of yours that I saw was the oceanic crossing in the 747. I was surprised to see you still have a flight engineer. I was under the impression 747s are a two man cockpit now. A good friend of mine was a 747 flight engineer with TWA many years ago and he took me out to the flight sim they used for their annual training at JFK. Your videos brought back some great memories!! Thank you captain.
Thank you so much captain for your time and great informative video to people who are interested in this field and I can't wait to start my training . Thank you again.
Thank you for creating these videos, Captain. I have been wanting to get my license since I worked my first job (cutting grass at Phoenix Air in Cartersville Georgia) however, life and 10 years of the military got in the way. Now that all of that is behind me, I am just about ready to start fulfilling my dream. I'm disabled now, so I have a LOT of time on my hands and Thanks to your videos, I'm now more energized than I have ever been. Again, THANK YOU for the inspiration!
Thank you for these videos. These are incredibly helpful at the foundational level, and really well detailed and put together. As someone learning myself, this has been great. Thank you!
Your videos cleared up so many questions I had in mind such as maintaining altitude during a turn, climbing and descend without pulling on the control. Thank you so much @CaptainScott!!!!
Hi Chris, It is the basics but he is so relaxed it wants you want to know more and that is how it should be. If he is like that with a student flyer then good on him, that is how it should be.
