If somebody is too old to be addressed as a "brother" or elder brother ie bhai or dada, then he is addressed as "Chacha" (=paternal uncle), uncle, mister, sir, etc - depending on the social class or cultural context, setting and intimacy level. "Mama" literally means maternal uncle. In polite society or as per standard etiquette "mama" can be used in lieu of "Chacha" under the same conditionalities. Nowadays though "mama' is quite popular among teenagers, young adults and working class people as a slangish term or form of address for a slightly older non-relative person or a stranger, in addition to actual maternal uncle. But this is still mostly confined to certain social groups as mentioned, not universal.
