@Amber Ellis first of all, what culture am I insulting? secondly, your argument about not understanding bonds doesn't work, because I'm not an orphan, I have both parents and one sibling, plus some aunts, uncles and such (grandparents are dead) and we're doing great. I'm happy for you, if you are an exception, but I stand by my statement, because I know many people with a ton of siblings and they hated parenting their younger siblings and never getting enough one on one time and attention from parents (and each other), because its simply impossible. Big families made sense back in the day, when kids were dying like flies, now it's simply selfish and irresponsible, especially towards the older kids.

ocandro That’s only true if you’re broke and your parents did not raise you properly. My family is big and my mom has been the rock of our family, ensuring we were brought up well. Having more siblings is only a plus in my book if your parents are the right people. You get more people who are really close to you and know you properly, who have experienced life in a similar but different way to you that just makes speaking easy and entertaining. I’d agree that if you don’t have either the financial capital or mental capital for it, you shouldn’t take on so many kids. In Abby’s case, her family is more than wealthy enough to support the children so it’s just a matter of their actual parenting which we know nothing about.

In Africa, that would be really mild. The generation before married three wives, each wife almost 8-13 children each. Say each of the children had only 5 children with one wife.
