The improved performance of the Congress party in 2024 lok sabha elections is not because of gandhis. In any case 99 seats while having the support of other parties and one particular community, is hardly worth praising. Forthcoming assembly elections in the next year or so will be the real test for the gandhis.

BJP lost in 3 states which unfortunately were the big states, won new territories and mostly maintained its position in others, that too after 10 years of running the government. Why are you forgetting NKP Salve, Madhav Rao Scindia and Sharad Pawar, all congress leaders. They were given the post of head of BCCI by India Gandhi/Cngress. Even Jagmohan Dalmiya was reported to be close to Pranab Mukerjee. Since the head of BCCI has to come through a state cricket board, Sharad Pawar was nominated by Punjab on orders of Capt Amrinder Singh. I wonder if Sharad Pawar has even been to Punjab.

Why in a country of 1.4 billion they can’t find anyone better than the descendants of Nehru as well as Modi himself (who often seems like a used car salesman); they are all kind of second rate in relation to the great pool of talent that exists. Why was Rahul Gandhi assigned the Bharat Jodo Yatra? No one else could do that? I say as an outsider having the same heritage. R Gandhi does seem to have developed some good experience and skills though he seems to overshoot on timing of BJP criticism. But India and its parties need to develop more worthy leaders. Manmohan Singh was pretty effective at least economically, just not a great promoter.

BJP is also anti-democratic by being so Modi centric, just as bad as a family controlling a party. India still thinks in feudal ways though the recent election was a refreshing and healthy democratic exercise. I agree with the point about Rahul Gandhi has been hyperbolic and it is disappointing. He should show grace and balance to be a better leader.

I dont understand what the Hoo Ha is about a family all taking the same pathway in terms of a profession choices-this is common amongst most families - everone knows this. In saying that it is only the really talented and competent members of the family that rise to sucess. Especially in politics. Surgeons sons or daughters often take up the same profession as their father- this does not necessarily mean they will be as talented as the parent - some children actually decide to drop out completely - but if they are good luck to them! Get over it. Look at how the Moghul "dynasty" broke up eventually - the following generations were getting weaker and weaker as they came into power - lacking the skills their forefathers had so they could not carry on the tradition and eventually they fell. Look at the Kennedys not all of them did as well as either John or Robert Kennedy the rest that followed did not come a patch near the two brothers. But to think they would not try to get into politics is absurd. From what I have observed - it is every father's dream to have their children in their footsteps. Who cares? What has democracy got to do with families being successful in the same profession? This is not a threat to democracy - the threat of autocracy becoming successful in running a country is the real threat. I just do not get it! 28:16
