The red and purple one has not been chosen that often because it is waaaay too obvious^^ Pink stuff exploding or failing miserably is one of your specialities! (especially in a warm-white-LED-lit room at less than average room temperature)
I can remember as a kid, my father and I used to connect low voltage polatized capacitors directly across mains (120v here in Canada) and switch then on just to enjoy the violent pop. We also experimented with 12v automotive bulbs, LEDs, and various other components across mains voltage. Always a good time when you get to blow stuff up. I recently rewound a microwave transformer to provide low voltage/high current. My neighbour had a blast watching my melt nails and screws while wearing a welding helmet. He must have thought I was crazy. Love your channel Clive, keep it up!!
Yup. That's the reason. It was fairly obvious you were going to record the next video directly afterwards, and so it would make sense to ensure the failing one was going to be in center frame.
Also significant: Green and Yellow were the only two we couldn't see the sides of at all. If he were trying to hide marks from opening it, that would be the best position.
I work for a website which won't be named, and one of our tweaks to encourage a certain subscription plan was to put that option in the center of the options list (pre-selected as well, but that isn't applicable here). Needless to say it made a statistically significant improvement- not a game changing move for sure, but certainly worth the tiny effort it took.
Whenever I find some site pre-selects something for me, I leave that site, block it entirely and never go back. That's almost as bad as auto-playing videos with sound in my mind.
I didn't win a prize, but I feel like a winner every time Clive blows something up! I can't support too much, but I surely get my Patreon's money's worth! THANK YOU, CLIVE!
Ahhh Parma Violets. The memories. I love them . Sadly only available from British import shops here in New Zealand at silly prices. Almost worth returning to UK to live (ALMOST!)
there was something subliminal you did that I did pick up: when you where listing the colors and hovering your finger over the PSUs, you started with an even rhythm, but when you got to the green one you took your finger off of it much faster. it wasn't so noticeable at first because the blue one was a little fast too, but if you watch it a couple of times you'll see that it looks like your finger starts burning when it gets to the green one
Funny thing is, i was going to say green too, because it was the first thing that came to my mind, but i said orange because i saw everyone else picking green in the comments...
Yeah, I was just about to pick green too, but went yellow instead... I was looking for hints in the video, so my thinking was "well the package of the screwdriver is yellow thus 1+1=2 right?" Seemed like a good guess.
Hey bigclive! I just went to your homepage and noted that the design is... Well, a bit last century (millennia even). It's probably intentional and you take pride in having made it all by yourself, which is awesome! Keep it up in that case! I actually like the minimalist and retro feel, it quite suits you. But in the event that you'd rather have a page that's a bit more modern I could redesign it from scratch to your liking. Just let me know!
It's deliberately been kept as minimalist as possible to allow use on older or lower power computers with bad connections to the 'net. If you compare speeds you'll see that my website loads on all platforms almost instantly and is completely zoomable and scrollable.
You should buy a couple of those screwdrivers and make them available on your shop (with a modest markup) for those of us who don't have Poundland (i.e. me in Australia!). :)
I didn't choose, but if I had I think I'd have avoided Pink too since it would have been too obvious a choice. Basically, we knew that you expect us to choose Pink, so we knew that you'd choose another colour.
as i said in a comment on the previous video, you did that thing in your voice that you said green faster than the other colors, like when Derren Brown can tell which cup the street magician/hustler has put the ball under or what card has been marked etc.
And here I was about to say that Clive needs to send someone the dearly departed USB power supply... AND HE DOES!!!! lol Great prizes (including the booby prize). Keep up the great videos Clive!
Aww, I wanted the blown up PSU, would have mounted & framed it and cherished it a lot more than I do the ontario plate I got from "the farm" back in the day... :P Guess I'll cheat next time!!! :D
The power cord connecting to the power bar that had the green one was stained, so can infer that it was a junker that could be ruined without feeling like it was a waste, so booby trapped unit was obviously on that bar. Magenta charger was brought to attention, safe to assume misdirection. The middle position on that power bar wouldn't "feel random" when setting it up (if you will excuse the scare quotes) so the only candidate was the green one. Now, what you should have done was have all of them explode except the magenta one. How many people picked that outcome? Why didn't I enter and pick the every one but magenta outcome myself?
I picked the magenta/pink one because you were pointing to it in the thumbnail. I thought it might be a hint. Would the nixie light work in North America?
Patreon accepts Paypal as a method, so you can use that. To send a 9V battery simply find the cheapest 99p 830 style meter and send to the winners. Will be a meter to blow up along with a PP3 battery that makes it through the post as well.
So that I can first in line, NEXT time... I vote Paisely again... and if you'll allow an alternate then red-n-white diagonal stripes from top-left to bottom right (not the other way 'round). Ok? (as an aside, Did anyone else envisage the old man, from scene 23, at the bridge? )
I thought the postal restrictions only applied to Lithium batteries. The Royal Mail website says Zinc and Alkaline are fine if they are in a retail pack, and surround by a layer of bubble wrap.
And is your interpretation purely because your new alkaline PP3 would not be in its 'original retail packaging'? Otherwise it would be allowed so long as it is in some cushioning material and the sender's name and address must be written on the outside of the packet. What difference it makes being in its original retail packaging god only knows.
Aww c'mon noo big yin! I was taught at skool that cheaters never win! and the most I ever won was a packet of Chewits, now some bampot wins a pack of ParmaViolets just for cheatin'. What has this world come to, or like a dodgy charger have I got my wires crossed? lol Grest channel Clive, plenty of banter, keep it up!
I may encourage cheating in all future competitions, but with VERY random and unknown prizes. That could include sexy ladies knickers shipped from China.
Not many people expected you to blow up pink for a contest, Clive. They _said_ you would, but that would had made it rigged for your older viewers. That, and being in the centre of the frame helped because our eyes immediately go to the "Safe" zone of a video, or the viewable area if overscan was a thing.
LOL not even with an English accent. My spoken english sounds with a strong Dutch accent :-) btw for non-dutch ppl pronouncing schuurmiddel would break their jaw :-)
Its likely 'green' was most picked was because it was centre screen both horizontally and vertically, in that video. Eco Hippies... haahahahahaa., I'll have to remember that one.
I didn't pick magenta/pink because you seemed unsure of what the color was. If you were unsure of what people should type in the comments, then people couldn't really be picked properly. Some people would say magenta, others would say pink, others would say some other variant. It's of course possible to programmatically select a winner from any of these variations, but I figured that most people aren't programmers, and I wasn't sure if you had programming experience.
