Nice video series. I suggest to add some commentary by the gardener himself. Also, some additional description of the plants chosen would be great. I like the first minute you included on driving through the neighborhood, which gives the viewer a better sense of setting. Please keep up the awesome job you are doing. You are filling a need to learn more about authentic traditional Japanese landscaping.

it adds so much when you start planting trees and moss! the garden becomes alive. but watching this episode i thought, could you make a series about maintaining tsuboniwa gardens? how to treat moss, bushes and prune trees etc.? it would be a great addition to your series about making fences.

Wow! What an improvement to the previous garden! Now it really invites you in and theres a serenity yet also an energizing element to it. It seems to spark my creative energy. The added trees, bushes, ferns and moss were perfect! You’ve created so many little points of interest in that small space. I find that my eyes and imagination take a little journey making that space feel so much more exciting. By the way, where is the water from the Tsukubai draining to ? The garden before looked as though it had a xylophone type drainage system or recirculating water system. But I didn’t see that recreated in the new garden.

@iamshaman
@iamshaman 3 года назад
The sacks are likely left to contain the roots and slow growth. I do want notes on the soil typed and also PRUNING I must know more about the pruning, it looks so wild and free as they cut like Edward Scissorhands! I can't analyze what or how haha
@XoshBitt
@XoshBitt 3 года назад
I am also wondering why they leave the root balls wrapped.
@JapaneseGardenTV
@JapaneseGardenTV 3 года назад
Wrapped around the roots will be a hemp cloth. This one will rot after a while, so there is no problem at all. Also, if this wrap is removed, the soil and fine roots attached to the roots will be removed, leading to withering.
@JapaneseGardenTV
@JapaneseGardenTV 3 года назад
This cloth is natural hemp cloth, so it will quickly rot and disappear in the soil. Therefore, it does not restrict growth.😊

Hello, I live in the Czech Republic and I am a fan of Japanese culture. It is very nice small garden. Please, I have a question : because of small and all-four-sides closed garden - do the trees have enough sunlight (especially the maple) ? There are many small gardens in Japan with all closed walls but I don´t understand how the tress get sunlight for their progress? Thank you very much for answer.

@therealhellkitty5388
@therealhellkitty5388 3 года назад
It enables you to keep the roots compact and surrounded by soil. They don’t lose as much moisture and are less likely to be broken. They will eventually break through the wrapping as it deteriorates.
@cincocats320
@cincocats320 3 года назад
He has explained in other videos that he uses a hemp wrapping that will naturally deteriorate. In the US many garden centers use a plastic wrapping which must be removed prior to planting.

Hi, love the channel! Quick question, when you wrap the root-ball of that tree, do you leave the bottom open so that roots can grow downward? Otherwise isn't it just like keeping the tree in a pot, which would cause wilting?
