Personally, I think you've got the perfect set up right now. Everything seems to work well for your needs and frankly Ive seen so many overdone overland vehicles. Its real easy to over do it with our need/want for new stuff when in reality what you already have seems to work very well. Like we used to say in the Army, If it aint broke dont fix it! Either way, I love your videos and keep em up.
I agree, I think one day I would like to settle on a rooftop tent that isn't just a review unit. From there I think it is just small things, like my filming setup.
Thanks for the vid! I was looking at rack platforms: why did you go with the RhinoRack platform rather than, say, the Yakima LockNLoad, or ARB or any other platform?
Nice video 👍 simple, clean, minimalist and yet effective setup and gear. You definitely highlight what the soul of Overlanding is or should be ... (overland tax .. lol 😂 ... sad but true 🤘) ohhh and if I can sleep in my 2-door TJ, I’m not surprised you can sleep in your 4-door JL 😉
This is such an awesome setup! Do you cover your camp table/kitchen at all when it rains or you're sleeping? Maybe an awning would be a good idea to keep that gear dry. Keep up the awesome content and can't wait to see your next adventure!
The title is misleading. If I were a beginner watching this I would think I need over a $100,000 investment to go overlanding, which just isn’t the case. Your personality comes thru, and great editing work.
Hey Justin, Nice set up. I'm still putting my stuff together, and have a similar philosophy about keeping everything low. As per your next mod, I'd recommend an awning or Hasika tent to afford some other living space, that packs away in a small space when you don't need it. Cheers my firend.
Thank you for this complete look at everything you used for an actual 600 mile trip! Hadn’t considered the need for mud flaps until now... Another great video! 👍
What a dope video! Dope setup! I found this through the forum.. no thanks to RU-vid.. it should have been recommended to me by RU-vid honestly.. with how many Jeep videos i watch lol liked and subscribed! Jeep wave! :D
This Pony Express Trail series has been out 3 years, so you probably won't see my comment, but here goes! I plan on doing the Salt Lake to Lake Tahoe segment solo in a 2004 Jeep Wrangler next spring. I will be tent camping with just an alcohol stove and backpacking food. The biggest issue will be carrying enough gas to make it across Nevada. I'm thinking this will be as close as you can come to experiencing it like the riders did without actually doing it on horseback.
Hi Jason, I am 6 ft tall and fit very comfortable in the back of my JKU, and have sleeping there the last three years when I travel. My set up is very similar to yours but costs a lot less $$. I use a Coleman Deluxe Single air mattress that I got at Walmart for $25.00 (they were so cheap i bought two in case one gets punctured). What I would like to see you and others do is get away from show casing all of the expensive toys, and share more economical solutions. Such as the Coleman are mattress versus the Deep Sleep, the the Cajun Bayou skottle ($45.00) versus the Tempo Tusk skittle. At the end of the day the result is the same, but I have a lot more $$$ in my pocket for gas. Enjoy your vids but like I said would like to see some tips on how to save $$$ to.
Very well thought out and detailed video, thank you. This also made me run out to my 2 door Bronco to see if I could sleep in it..... I'm 5'8"... I just fit. But I'd need to either have a thick air matress or lay down a platform.
This is a great video. I would like to share it in my sales funnel as a bonus item. This would be great to share with my customers and it would promote your page and other videos. Please let me know what you think. I have a Shopify store and a sales funnel. I would put this in my sales funnel once it is complete. We are a start-up business selling images for JKU and JLU rear-side windows. Let me know if you would like to discuss this. Thank you- Amy
Can't tell if I'm watching an Apple commercial or an Overland video. Ha! Beautifully edited, excellent shots, and very well said dude! Top notch. - Grant
Incredible video Justin! I have been looking for a setup to sleep inside my jeep. Everyone seems to have rooftop setups these days. I am going to copy your sleeping setup. Thanks again, really enjoyed this video.
I bet this built was a small fortune, but I get what you're saying. All you really need to overland is regular camping gear, a reliable vehicle and kick ass tires.
I really like and enjoy watching your videos. You explain things very well and do so with professional articulation. You have a great attitude and energy which makes watching your videos very pleasant. Keep up the awesome work brother! Subscribed!
Thank you for sharing your gear video for your Jeep. I have only been overlanding for the last year or so. I've change a few things in my line up. I saw your skottle and it reminds me when you have that overlanding fever sometimes you get carried away buying stuff. I did return my skottle and exchange it with a 2 burner Dometic Pro. I see that everybody have preference to gears. I was blown away with that Long Range America aux tank. I am not sure if I can justify paying $2200 for an extra 17 gallon. I guess we all have favorites. I also have that blue 5 gallon and that appears to be to heavy and also replace that with 4 gallon Dometic with pump
Love the video. What do you do to fill in the gap behind the front seat when sleeping? Also, I didn't know deepsleep had half mattresses like that, that's really slick! The GoalZero runs the electric blanket all night just fine?
'ONE' AWESOME Jeep Justin!! ..but just wanted to ask...when you have your Bed 'Set up' inside for Sleeping...where do you put All That 'GEAR' you took out??...you don't leave it 'outside' through the Night do yah?...Cheers from Canada!
@@JustinBMcBride ..hey ...pro's & cons with 'every set up!'! i prefer 'sleeping' in my vehicle TOO!!.. But i assume you're 'OUT THERE SOLO'...& Out with other Trust worthy Overlanders!!?? You should consider getting an Ursa Minor pop up Tent 'unit' for your Jeep...so you can put all the GEAR BACK in for SAFETY!! Safe Travels !! GREAT vids! Cheers From Canada!
@@1111Overland I didn’t do a video because it was a 36 hour install and the worst I’ve ever done. There was no way to do both a video and that crazy install.
@@JustinBMcBride I know exactly what you mean!! I have so many install videos on my channel but I just did a boatload of upgrades over the past months and barely filmed anything. Filming is HARD! Especially when you are doing the work solo. I’ve found it easiest to film other people doing their work, but when it comes time for me to do mine, the camera of often off!
Justin, being in Idaho, my roof comes off around mid May and stays off. I am having a hell of a time trying to find a rack that i like. Anyone got any suggestions that I may have not looked at. I running out of places to look. I am a Hammock Camper.
@@JustinBMcBride Nice, using the top as an electric burner, good idea didnt even think to do that. I may be able to strip more gear out of the truck now ;)
Thanks for the video. New to your channel and am enjoying your content. I live in Tooele county and you’ve inspired me to check out the pony express trail!
Awesome videos and LOVE the wood carrier! Thanks for the suggestion! It was so nice to keep the log mess contained (and it looks great too 👍). Now I just need to save up for a Zarges box 😍💸
It doesn’t improve mpg it adds more range by adding spare fuel. So before adding the tank I could carry roughly 21 gallons of fuel. With the tank I now have 38 gallons, which almost doubled the range.
