Hi, The height of Chinese dance was during the Tang Dynasty and the establishment of the trade and cultural exchange through the Silk Road. Many dances from inside & outside the country were documented in the Ten Books of Song. Lay's two EPs (East & West) documents a journey down the Silk Road, so the dances will be from those influence. We use the term 西域 to describe this kind of Chinese history with Western Region influence (Indian, persian, arabian, egyptian etc) In East's "Flying Apsaras", the traditional dance used was from Dunhuang. Dunhuang is at the crossroad of the Yumen pass of the Silk Road. The dance is realized from the extensive Buddhist cave carvings in the area, characterized by the flex feet, hand gestures and reversed pipa. In West's "Veil", we enter the Tarim Basin (now Xinjiang) area of the Silk Road. People tend to think of China as Han ethnicity, but China has 56 recognized ethnic minorities, so there are 56 ethnic dances that are taught. From the movements of the veiled girls (head mvt, drop step, arm placement), I would like to say these are the foundations of Uyghur Xinjiang dance (维吾尔新疆舞蹈）. However, there are some of the opinion that this the Eagle Dance of the Tajik people (塔吉克族鹰舞 ) because of the reference to totems in the Chinese lyrics. Since supposed "7 Veils dance" is supposedly of middle eastern and Babylon origins, it would come from the same area of influence.
