We all like to see a pro's kit. This week I spend time with Australian Fencing Awards finalist James Higgins from Walters Fencing in Tamworth. I check out the hand tools he keeps in his kit. Plenty of tips and tricks in this video!

Awesome vid👍I have been fencing since 5, I don’t have a lot tools but I don’t build a lot different fences, typically top bare with cyclone/mess fence or 8 strains wire fence. Post are usually metal train sleepers. I do a lot dairy fencing but biggest pet hat is not many farmers have electric fence tester n leave mess of wire on the ground.

Great film, always good to see a pro's kit. I bought one of James's fence repair tools a while ago (not cheap getting it to the UK!) and can tell the world that it's superb; it's paid for itself already in the time (and irritation) it's saved me when fixing stock and tree damage to fences - if you're doing fence repairs on a regular basis, get a set! Knipex shifting spanners are good too. 👍

I would be interested in what you would carry in your pack in a remote situation where you had to walk a fenceline to check it and fix it. I have put a pack together that I carry in a back pack and carry a small chainsaw in my hand. Usually the fence needs mending because a tree has fallen on it.

My kit is much the same, big take out is keeping the end strainer assembly adjustable, we don't do a lot of repairs these days but I see a lot of assembly's that have moved and if they are not adjustable it makes life hard in the long run. Mind you we use to make our own pre-welded box assembly's in the past that seem to have lasted

Got 45 stone fencing poles erected 6 1/2 ft spacing. 5 parallel lines of Zn coatef 250 gsm barbed wire 12 in gap. Added an X between. 4 folks did an exceptionally good job. Lasts at least another 20 yrs. Guys didn:t had a percentage of tools you put on display. Rather crowbars, pincer, pliers, wood pole and stromg shoulders using mech leverage did the job. Not to bring in sophistication. Simple methods are proven to be best.

Mate, these guys build fences that last for decades and get multiple kilometres done in a day. They avoid injury and earn a living satisfying customers. Technology changes and people adapt. Calm down.

A really good video and insight. Have the right basics rather than 'make-do' gear. So, planning a trip to the 'man-toy' shop 👍😊 ....think there's a fishin' tackle shop nearby too, and wouldn't be a brit without careful timing to include a pub lunch after

I am sure you are aware that Milwaukee now sells a fencing stapler that you can change the length of the staples and how deep the staples go into the wood post. Quite a remarkable tool. It is 18 volt and can drive about 500-600 staples per 4 amp hour battery.

Hi Tim, another great video. Do you have a preferred way of carrying your fencing kit of tools as opposed to having the ute and tool box handy?

I just drilled a well for stock water and water test came back with slightly high levels of boron. Would anyone know if good or not for cattle?

G'day Tim your channel is fantastic !!! I'm stuck at home with covid and watching your video's on the idiot box must say its very far from idiot. Have you got a Microphone sock ? Just wanted to say how much I appreciate your video's. Being a city person soon to buy and start a hobby farm to run a mob of sheep great kick-start in the right direction
@FarmLearningTim
@FarmLearningTim 2 года назад
Yep. Microphone sock with a rode videomic ntg. When it gets really bad I swap to Rode wireless go, but the sock for them falls of, so they go under my shirt.... Basically the best setup sound wise I can go to and it still struggles. My stuff is all outside, so sometimes the gear struggles big time. So yeah, there’s wind noise..... really glad you like the channel mate. Cheers

@@FarmLearningTim Stuart's Andrews forage farm gave your microphone grief. Just seemed it needed a pond filter on the end of it. haha Keep up the content its excellent for newbies hopefully I can get through all of it this week. Do you have more sheep content like what I have to do like drenching n the equipment. The Types like dorper sheep and where to sell auctions n how they work. Small things that might get stuck when I start up Cheers

Hi Tim, Are there any systems on the market for under gates to close the gap to the ground to say keeping dogs from crawling under the gate, the issue I have is if the ground is on a cross grade it changes the gap height??
@FarmLearningTim
@FarmLearningTim 2 года назад
G'day Clinton. The best and simplest advice is to level gateways for 5m in each direction prior to fencing. Having said this, I admit to having mesh with timber weights under some of my gates, because hours on the shovel or 15 grand on an excavator is not always appealing.....

Thanks for the tips boys. got most of that stuff. Never go near a fence without fence pliers, sorry. Not a fan of their series one plain wire spinner, or knot machine as I call it.

I took their Blue Jen II up to 20km/hr on the back of my ute testing it and not a problem. Check out my spinner buying guide ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gecq0uCQmws.html

Interesting, although absolutely STUFFED with ads. Not a pair of Maun pliers in sight. Knipex are great, but Maun are what St.Peter's fencers in Heaven use. And - a shorter twitcher might have been added.

I've got a pair of Maun's that I've had for about 8 years, and definitely do like them. Found the cutters not as sharp on high tensile wires as the Knipex though.
