It's going to translate way better than people think. College offenses aren't sophisticated enough to handle Wink's system, regardless of sending more then 4 or just rushing 3 or 4.
Blitzing didn’t work vs OSU because they had first RD QBs and WRs. That’s not the case in 2024 , but wink will play more zone since we just won a natty doing so
They have been running this defensive system what wrinkles will he put into it ? If it is similar to the last couple of years Michigan will be just fine .
Think of the difference more like risk tolerances. They'll play pretty much the same system, but Wink's tolerance to take risks are higher than both Minter and Macdonald. In the case of Minter, he typically didn't blitz much until the other team was around the red zone. In the case of Wink, he might dial up a blitz to try to force you out of FG range or generate a turnover. Or, he might blitz on third down on the opposite side of the field to try to get the offense a short field. Minter and Macdonald really didn't do that so much unless they were down or saw a matchup they really really like. Again, all of this discussion is moot until we see how well the D-Line gets pressure with just four. Even with coordinators like Wink, it's still their wet dream to be able to get pressure at will without blitzing. If Michigan's front four of Stewart-Grant-Graham-Moore continually get pressure without help, Wink's gonna just let them get pressure and flood all the underneath routes with his LBs and safeties.
