When I first heard this song it felt like I was listening to a patchwork of different songs that vaguely fit together, but because -much like yourself- I really liked the chorus I gave it a few more listens and honestly the whole song just came together the more I listened.
And regarding Brent Hinds and his voice. Check out the song Stargasm from their album The Hunter. This song is simply out of this world. Another level in my opinion.
I think this one grows on you when considered in the context of the entire Crack the Skye album. But definitely not the best song on that album (that'd be "the Czar," which people will probably bombard you with requests for).
personally I think this song comes together a lot better if you see the first verses and chorus as almost a conversation. Verse one is the first character talking about someones trust/responsibility being failed leading to their death. From there the second character asks themselves how they can come to terms with their failure. That leads into the chorus where the second character admits their failure and how they're lost without person one. that alone is pretty cool idea but apparently this ties into the suicide of Brann's (the drummer) sister and his feeling of responsibility around it. This happens for multiple songs throughout the album. sorry to infodump I just find that a lot of mastodons songs really come together when you know what their mentality was while making it.
There is a documentary to the making of this album to get more insight. In my opinion this album is Mastodon at their absolute best. The whole album feels like one fluid song and is a masterpiece
Check out their song Curl of the Burl and their official video which is absolutely crazy. Other recommendation is their official video to the song Show Yourself. You will like it for sure.
@@dannytheswedishmusixian1513 in my opinion Legend of the King showcases their style the best, but my opinion is slightly skewed because it was one of the first songs that I heard from them. I posted the link below. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QMiKmj4iCEo.html
The vocals weren't bad, but I was a little confused by the video. I don't know if you are familiar with Pentatonix, but you might like some of their songs. You would most likely enjoy especially when Mitch Grassi sings, you seem to prefer higher vocals. My favorite, and the most unique for an A Capella group, is "Daft Punk Medley".
Thanks! Yeah I've seen that medley and really liked it. I did include pentatonix in my Bohemian Rhapsody comparison video(but the Penta part was blocked so you can only hear me talk about it.).
