What are they even protesting? Do they think a university has the power to stop a military conflict on the other side of the world? This just strikes me as an excuse for lazy kids to skip class and get high in a tent with their friends. Not a single productive person is taking part in this "protest." If these people actually cared about the conflict, they'd buy a plane ticket and go there. Camping in the safety of a university lawn, half way across the globe, does nothing.
Do some research on ending apartheid in S. Africa. College campus protests got the ball rolling forcing governments to listen and change their policy. Meanwhile, Israel is setting fire to tent cities in Rafah, killing anyone in the vicinity. So your suggestion is people should do nothing and just watch quietly while Israel murders thousands?

Apartheid ended because of nuclear weapons development. No nation cares about another nations human rights abuses. South African nationalists were ordered to destroy their nukes prior to handing over the country to the corrupt communist ANC. The US wanted to be sure they were not handing over free nukes to the likes of China and Russia at the time. If Iran or North Korea etc etc were not proactively developing nuclear weapons, America and Canada would happily turn a blind eye. That’s the world, and it’s a sick one. Protesting will never / has never changed foreign policy. It may change domestic policy on occasions.

why should a minority of students dictate the University policy? and from what I understand, a lot of them are foreign students..if they dont like Canadian politics they are free to "divest" themselves...secondly, UoT should divest not from collaborating with top notch jewish scientists, rather divesting of uselss degree programes that they currently offer...back to basics, please ...
Truer words never said. Educate yourselves folks. Jews lived in Palestine before Christianity existed, & way before there was such a thing as Islam. And upon the establishment of these other religions, followers of different religions lived in peace side by side for thousands of years. Co-opting Palestine as anti-Semitic Arab land is to ignore history. And raising generations to hate just because of different ethnicity is taboo nearly everywhere in the world yet so many support this blind hatred in the Middle East. Most of those claiming "Palestinian" ancestry are descended from Arabs from other existing countries. Israel was established in Palestine because Palestine is the homeland of Jews.
