That fumble he forced at 9:25 in the video was a game saving/game winning play against the Lions and one of the greatest WR’s of all time in Calvin Johnson. That was during week 4 of the 2015 season. Kam missed the first couple games of that season due to a holdout from a contract dispute with the Hawks. After missing the first 2 games of the season, The 2 sides agreed to terms and Kam rejoined the squad. The Hawks lost both games they played without Kam so they started the 2015 season 0-2. After beating Chicago they were playing @ Detroit. There was less than 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter and Seattle was ahead 13-10. The Lions were down to the Seattle 10 yard line and when Stafford hit Calvin Johnson on that route, it looked like he was going to get hit at the 1 or 2 yard line and easily fall into the end zone to take the lead and it would have probably ended up being the game winner. Kam punched that ball out at the 1 yard line, the ball went out the back of the end zone for the turnover and touchback for Seattle. That amazing play by Kam won that game
I remember that so well! People started to turn on Kam because of the advice he got from his agent. But it was pretty evident the Seahawks needed him in those first two games. Kam and Marshawn are my favorite players of all time
Wish we still had those players! Metcalf has been fun to watch. Washington state loves our Seahawks but miss that team. Every game was exciting. Good luck with you L5 S1 injury. I had surgery to carve out space for nerve stem but refused fusion. It's been 20 yrs with no pain. ❤
Kam (Strong Safety) and Ray (Middle Linebacker)play two different positions. Their roles are different although they are both head hunters lol. Ray is regarded as arguably the greatest at his position of all time. So overall wise Ray is the better player. Kam was nothing to play with though, him on the Seahawks during the legion of boom was nasty. They had one of the top 10 greatest defenses of all time.
Kam was as big as some linebackers, but he played behind them in the secondary covering wide receivers, tight ends, and the occasional running back out of the back field.. Ray was a linebacker, and was about the same weight, but not as tall, as Kam.
Dofferent positions: Ray was better over a longer term and bulkier, Kam sold his body out on each hit. He was more velocity*mass vs Ray’s Great Wall of China sorta tackles. Unfortunately Kam’s approach cost him in the end with a neck injury that could not be repaired or rehabbed. Never met Ray but Kam is a super nice guy, very involved in his community. I did a 5k he sponsored and he sat out in the rain and high fived every single person who came across the finish line, even those on crutches and in wheel chairs.
As a longtime diehard Seattle Seahawks fan, there are so many players I miss from that 2013 Super Bowl team (Russ, Baldwin, Bennett, Avril, B Wagz, KJ Wright, Sherman, Earl, the list goes on) but when it comes to 1 offensive and 1 defensive player I miss the most from that team…….. Marshawn Lynch and Kam Chancellor!!! They set the tone on either side of the ball. They played physical and would deliver the hits! Going on the road against a physical team, I was not worried about getting bullied what so ever!!!
Let's not forget...those were CLEAN hits. One of many favorite players, and I have been a Seahawk fan from the day one. (Remember Largents' hit on the guy that made a dirty hit on him?)
How this man fell to the 6th round of the 2011 NFL Draft is mind blowing!!! But I’m so glad he did cause Kam is that dude! “Do you see Kam Chancellor coming down into the slot and covering Wes Welker? If he does, it’s going to be a long day for him” a direct quote from Skip Bayless. HAHAHA!!!! Clearly you don’t really know what you’re talkin about Skip. Ray Lewis was an Inside Linebacker in Baltimores 3-4 defense, Kam Chancellor played Strong Safety in Seattles 4-3 base defense. Tough to compare the two directly
Next: Troy Polamalu, Ed Reed, Brian Dawkins, Teddy Bruschi,J.J.Watt,T.J.Watt,or Ronnie Lott. Any of these guys are awesome! Ray Lewis is a great MLB ,Kam is a great safety....both were on good defensive teams
What's interesting is the Hawks, from 81 to 87, had another heavy hitting 6'3" Strong Safety: HOF, "The Enforcer", Kenny Easley. He is the prototype for today's defensive backs like Kam Chancellor.
Kam's favorite player was Sean Taylor & they played the Safety position. It's best to compare the two because they were freaks at 6'3" & over 220 lbs playing that position. I give Sean the leg up because he was just a better ball hawk but they both were enforcers & layed the wood. RIP #21.
Kam was forced to retire early due to a neck injury. Had he been able to play longer, he likely would have ended up as a first ballot Hall Of Famer. He was the soul of that defense which can be argued was the best defense in history. At the very least, it was the best since the Bears back in 1986 I believe, but even then those teams didn't have to play with the rules of today that emphasize safety. The Superbowl was against Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. It was probably the most lopsided Superbowl in history, as the Seahawks were up 36 to nothing at one point (or maybe it was 35, I forget). That Bronco team was considered at the time to be the greatest offensive team in history, and the Seahawks were not given much of a chance to win that game. In regards to Ray Lewis, their positions are hard to compare. Lewis was a middle linebacker that defined how a middle linebacker should be played. Chancellor was a strong safety with physical skills unheard of at that position which allowed him to defend against the pass like a safety and play on the box like a linebacker. He knocked a 300 lbs guard on his butt while rushing to make a tackle on a running back. There aren't many players that can do that, and none of them play safety. Just Kam "Bam Bam" Chancellor.
The quote about "except against Peyton Manning" was all a lead up to the Superbowl in 2013 - the shot with the helicopters? That was real. The Seahawks, with Kam Chancellor and "The Legion of Boom", beat Peyton Manning and the Broncos 43-8.
If you want to see into the crazy business of sports, look up the NHL trade trees that sent Wayne Gretzky to the LA Kings and Eric Lindros to the Philadelphia Flyers.
